Everyone loves the cute mascots of SMT, the Jack Bros. Fan favorite Jack Frost, his best friend Pyro Jack or Jack-o-Lantern, and the lesser loved Jack the Ripper. They seem like just any other mascots to the average onlooker, but there is much more to these little guys than meets the eyes. From the personification of winter, a person who deceived the devil himself, and the terror of England still talked about today. We’ll be going over the folklore of each of the Jack Bros and not so much into the variations like Frost Ace, Black Frost, and King Frost, just to keep things concise. Let’s start this folklore triple feature.
When I first started writing the script for this video I really thought there would not be much to them. Fortunately for me shin megami tensei always does their research and there was a ton of interesting lore behind them all. Jack frost, pyro jack, and jack ripper are full of interesting topics from around the world. Jack frost, pyro jack, and jack ripper are from all across European folklore and was heavily requested from the fans. I'm glad to go over the smt lore that is less about the grand biblical canon, and more lighthearted cultural folklore. Jack Frost is a fan favorite for the smt community, and while my personal favorite of the jack bros is pyro jack or jack o lantern, they are all unique and deserve to be dived into. Jack Frost specifically has history and lore spanning back potentially hundreds of years. Pyro jack is a unique window into the folklore and culture of Europe hundreds of years ago, and an explanation of why we carve jack o lanterns. Jack Ripper is a more macabre figure to be a mascot, but quite possibly the most known and interesting lore. White the game jack bros is a little underrated the jack bros themselves are universally loved as the cute mascots of atlus and the shin megami tensei franchise. This smt lore video evolved to be a much bigger project than first anticipated, but as with almost every smt lore video I learned much more while researching than I thought I would. Shin megami tensei Jack Bros forever.

Honestly, I feel like a follow-up about the various Atlus Original Frosts (and/or, just, like, Atlus OC demons in general) would be pretty interesting, even though the "mythology" around them is super modern stuff, like Space Marines or Sentai. (Or things which would logically exist as demons.)

Although the actual backgrounds of Frost and Pyro aren't exactly cute, I always loved the juxtaposition of their portrayal in MegaTen. That being said, while such a feat wouldn't exactly be easy for someone like Jack the Ripper, I still find him cute lol. He's sorta like a "Hey, I'll slice ya!" kinda guy, but he's really not a bother given his stature xD

Pyro Jack is my favorite of the Jack Bros too. In Atlus's Etrian Odyssey games, I like to name my guild Jack Bros and then create a main roster of Jack Frost, Pyro Jack, Black Frost, King Frost, and Frost Ace.

I'm surprised stingy jack didn't ask the devil to leave his soul alone for eternity from the get go, but still being able to outsmart satan himself.........respect. Damn, I love the variations. Like mythelogy getting modern characters. King Frost in SMT5 is really 'cool'. And I just played Devil Survivor, where Black Frost made a lot of sense in a way. Ace Frost was a favorite in my forth game playthroughs, not to mention the Demonica gear stealers.

Other iterations of Jack Frost had him as a dreamboat(in the book series turned DreamWorks film Rise of the Guardians), while he was played by Martin Short in the third Santa Clause film, and acted like a brat towards a cub who ran away from home in some Paramount short from the 30s. Stingy Jack was carried over to the first Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy Halloween special, and on the other hand, it's best Jack Ripper doesn't return because of it's origin.

World Map Theme from Shin Megami Tensei 4 Apocalypse is one. The other is so jazzy, it has to be from Persona 5. Try listening to it's OST. EDIT: Damn, there are a lot of songs for P5(R). I didn't realise how much I hated the Mementos song as much as I did after hearing it again. Anyway, the second one you are looking for is "AI and Heart"

Dude hearing the story of stingy jack makes me think what if the SMT have an alternative but deliverate way to baboozeld the bosses and make them weaker or even now shoot kill them that could be absolutely nuts. A little hard to balance but if you have the resources, knowledge and skill to pull it out I don't see ant problem trying this.

I'm surprised they went with Jack the Ripper instead of Spring-Heeled Jack. Still from English, still said to terrorize and kill people, but they could have taken more liberties to make him cute. Not to mention that he's fictional. I think Jack the Ripper being a real life serial killer has less people willing to think he's cute little mascot.

When I was a child I remember my inquisitive nature leading me down some curious rabbit holes, always trying to learn about mysteries "rather counter Culture", I was gifted a book about various unexplained topics "Jack the ripper" featured in a segment and to my shock one of his victims was on display in the pages and that picture was my "reality check" if you will, that one day I to will die. It had a profound influence on my life, as obviously I made this channel because of it lol. I covered it because I thought I could use it as both a way to gush about my favorite game series as well as my passion for researching history, theology, and folklore. It really was a match made in heaven, Great JRPG series, and interesting real world inspiration.
