I'd never of #PillowQueens before and I was pleasantly surprised. They're a band from Ireland, I really like this song and I really like her voice. Let me know what you think of them? Do they have what it takes?

I always get a pang of jealousy when I hear a young, talented band or artist, it comes with a mixture of being inspired and, at the same time wanting to give up and sell my gear....this band sounds excellent.

Another great video from my favourite person! Justin, I love it when I get in from work to see that you’ve released another video, highlighting an artist or band we all need to be know about. I know I’m slightly biased, but I truly believe that you deserve your own music documentary series or radio show where you can delve deeper into the artists and music you feature on your channel.

One of my favorite vocalists, and after watching so many of your videos i’ve realized you’re one of my favorite people i’ve never met. Justin! I am looking forward to seeing you guys perform on the 2022 tour! Being Brazilian - and also a writer/poet/journalist - I am extremely passionate about everything I do and everything I stand for. With that said, I can see your approach towards what you do is the same and, therefore, it just makes me admire your knowledge and talent even more, as it clearly also shows how much technique and dedication you put into it. Awesome channel and info you bring. Keep it up!

You're right about that lead singer's voice. Nothing OTT or ostentatious, but happily wavering and imperfect, which is always lovely. A litle grit or grain to it in the lower register, and then it sort of blooms into a very tasteful and slightly saucy timbre. I do love it when people just reign things back a tad and are subtle but confident in their vocal performance. "This is me, and I'm doing it my way, so just enjoy it" kind of a vibe. Just a tad sad that it's become so rare in a lot of today's music. Anyway, kudos to these Queens. Cracking songwriting, lots of nicely subtle little bits to dive into that keep you coming to back to listen to parts of it again. Good job ladies.

Nice breakdown, and you are correct Pixies are the most important Alt Rock influence, and there is certainly nothing wrong with that. They are a masterclass in the 2 minute 'pop song', I got to talk with Gil Norton about it a few years ago, and Frank Black is a genius song writer.

The Pillow Queens sound a helluva lot like Brandi Carlisle with the addition of that Irish lilt and the same sort of "true to life" image that served the Pixies so well, they're clearly going for it but with that sunlight as antiseptic dose of reality that pulls at your heart, I only hope they can turn it into some kind of longevity in this internet age of conformity. They're absolute fire!

There are definitely fleeting elements of this song that conjure a strange 80s yacht rockish association in my mind. And is it the Hill Street Blues theme that I'm thinking of as well? Or maybe some other theme probably written by Mike Post and Pete Carpenter. It's very brief and maybe more a generally evocative sound that I can't quite put my finger on. Sometimes a smell will do that to me where I experience a powerful sense of deja vu that I can't link to any specific memory.

Interesting choice and commentary.. Oh their rhythm guitar sound on this tune? Yes it does have a strumming flow to it thats very much one of the prevalent Indie Rock styles.
