I had the pleasure of flying General Thomas Stanford back from the west coast of BC to Vancouver. It was a real privilege having him sit in the copilot seat of my Otter floatplane and being able to have an hour and a half of his time discussing our mutual love of aviation. There are very few pilots that will ever come close to his aviation and space experience, but the most remarkable quality I saw in him was his kindness and gentlemanly manner.

RIP David Breshears. An all time great in high attitude mountaineering, and the greatest high altitude mountaineering filmaker and videographer of all time. The guy lugged a giant IMAX camera up to 29000+ feet to show the 99.999% of the population of our world what the top of the planet looks like on a massive, immersive screen. A true pioneer of filmaking! That said, he was willing to drop his project, at great cost to himself and his sponsors, to render aid to others during the 1996 Everest Disaster, and commit his team to lead a rescue effort, that saved lives, including two people that were left for dead. He was far too young to have died at home. 😢

I just hike the Colorado Rockies, and that's enough for me. To do what Breashears accomplished and die in bed is quite a feat. I'm just sorry he died so young. He's only 6 months younger than I am. Sixty-eight years old is too young, especially when I suspect Breashears was otherwise still active and fit. My condolences to his friend, climbing partner, and collaborator, Ed Viesturs, another extraordinary climber who has written some engrossing books about his adventures.

I live with my son and he makes sure the house is warm… He gets massive loads of firewood… You know, those loooong trailers of ginormous tree trunks… He cuts and splits tons of wood…literally!! He keeps the boiler filled with huge logs… He keeps the fireplaces burning, when necessary… AND I have a portable electric heater in my room…plus very warm blankets and a sleeping bag… I have a garment rack filled with warm clothing…to be layered as necessary… I have knitted hats, hats with ear flaps, gloves, scarves, etc. Life is an adventure!!

I met Emmett Walsh when I gave him a pat down as a TSA agent. He was hilarious, he turned and shouted loudly: “NEXT TIME ILL REMEMBER TO BRING THE VASELINE!!” He passed out photocopies of a list all the movies and shows he’s been in…

Martin Greenfield is truly an inspiration to anyone who thinks they have a hard life! He taught himself tailoring in Auschwitz concentration camp! Went to on to make suits for six Presidents and countless starts. Shalom and RIP Martin.

A retired plumber died in 2024. He helped tens of thousands of people with affordable, quality work. No notoriety. A nurse died in 2024. She cared for over 100,000 patients, giving professional, compassionate care. No notoriety. As did a mechanic, doctor, electrician, secretary, teacher, beautician, carpenter, HVAC repairman, factory worker, sewage and sanitation worker, etc. No notoriety. Civilization survive without "notable" people, but not the invisible workers that build and maintain civilization. Thank the invisible people the next time you need their services.

Condolences to the family of M. Emmet Walsh. I am an old fan of the original Star Trek series; and for a moment I thought it was Mr. Walsh who starred in the episode "Spectre Of The Gun" which aired in October of 1968. I had him confused with the late actor William Zuckert who played the role of "Sheriff" in that iconic episode. The resemblance is uncanny. To the late William Zuckert, who was born December 18, 1915 and passed January 23, 1997, may he rest in peace as well. Both men were outstanding, accomplished actors; respectively. Walsh will be remembered and missed.

Emmitt Walsh was a GREAT actor, and FUNNY as hell. Alot of his characters had off the wall one-liners in parodies like the captain in the movie "Airplane."
