I mean, as an actual amateur local historian (Bath in my case), things like 'so-and-so helped create this lane from what WAS this square' are unashamedly significant stuff. It could be me and my kind have lost all sense of proportion, but the creation of a whole new street is a big event in the local history. Maybe I'm just the Alan Partridge of Bath. Hey ho.

That was Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell, a song in which Joni complains they paved paradise to put up a parking lot, a measure which actually would have alleviated traffic congestion on the outskirts of paradise, something which Joni singularly fails to point out, perhaps because it doesn't quite fit in with her blinkered view of the world. Nevertheless, nice song.

my mate Steven, stayed next to Alan in a hotel once.. you wouldn't believe the stuff he had to say.. a part from the fact that Alan arrived in a Astra diesel automatic, he heard him talking to the desk clerk over the phone, trying to upgrade his room over a bathroom dispute.. Apparently the "moisture level was too high", he claimed it would interfere with his "early morning grooming routine".. anyway, I only listen to Orbital Digital now..

Have to laugh because there WAS a Partridge from Norwich who was incredibly influential.... Unfortunately it was Norwich, Vermont in the old United Stateside and his name was Captain "Alden Partridge".... Who made Norwich University in Vermont.
