DC Comics did a legitimate, serious version of Ambush Bug in the Elseworlds story Batgirl and Supergirl. There, he is a mostly trusted member of the Justice Society, but he has a constant habit of going off on his own to investigate something strange. Showing that the concept can work in a serious setting.

@@JackKoes It's called "Elseworlds' Finest: Supergirl & Batgirl." Essentially Batgirl is the Batman of this universe with enough wherewithall to banish all metahumans from Gotham City. Meanwhile, Supergirl is essentially the protégé of Lex Luthor in a Metropolis without Superman for ... reasons that will be explained. It's a very good Elseworlds story, and I kinda wish they would do a sequel.

Dumb Bunny is a member of the Inferior Five, all children of members of another superhero group intended as a parody of the Justice Society, with the Five a parody of the Titans. None of the Inferior Five have trustworthy powers - Dumb Bunny is your typical mindless blonde with super strength that she doesn't know how to use.
