Technically there still is, it's that feeling you get that urges you to do the genocide run. However, because you didn't do that, the villain never showed its face.

I agree with you on the narrator aspect, but I don't think they are your consciousness. They ARE a character in Undertale, one who fell into Mount Ebott, befriended Asriel, was adopted into the Dreemur family, poisoned themself, died, gave their soul to Asriel, died again (maybe not considered dying but still,) was resurrected by Frisk's determination and became the narrator who is influenced by your actions as the player.

Jake Fassino I think that it is both. I think that Chara and Frisk represent different mindsets. Most gamers play a game knowing that they must kill everything to get things like Exp and Lv. This is why not being spoiled before playing Undertale is so important. A new player would go into the game thinking they are reqired to kill things to beat later bosses (so they won't be underleveled). Chara is a separate character, but she also represents the thoughts of the player needing to kill everything. Frisk represents the player's awareness of not having to kill everything. Once the player changes their mind about this knowing that the game can still be completed without killing anything, they're no longer influenced by Chara. However, killing everything IS required to experience all of the game's story/content. Without this, a lot of holes are left in the story's plot. Once the player knows this, they have the option to do nothing like Flowey tells them, or to kill the friends you made in the game to get the story. This is where Chara comes back into the player's mind. The player thinks that if they DO kill everything and get all of the story, they can just reset the game with no consequences using their save file. This is what makes Undertale special. If the player chooses do a Genocide run, Chara will eventually take control of the player's game (by killing Flowey and starting the battle with Sans). If they do a True Genocide route and try to restart the game, you WILL have consequences (even if they are small like the change in. the cutscene at the very end).

Agreed. The fanbase have put me off from playing Undertale for quite a while. Actually, pretty much anything that has a tumblr-esque "fandom" (I fucking hate that word) is a huge turn-off for me. But I'm glad I convinced myself that I can just play the game without being a repulsive fanboying fuckwad, and honestly I'm glad I went and finally played it.

@@guifdcanalli Firstly Chara is never referred as she or a he therefore it might just be best to refer to them as "they" regardless, Asriel was completely aware of the plan. I'm the final tape he says "we only need 6 right?". In addition it's quite heavily implied that Chara was quite depressed before falling down as Asriel says that Chara didn't "have the happiest reason" for climbing the mountain. As a result Chara hated humanity after whatever happened up there. The fact the monsters are trapped furthers this. Multiple characters laugh at dark things like Toriel when she dies. When Mettaton is acting sad over you getting killed he says "I can't stop laughing!" If you were to argue with Asriels comment that "they weren't the best person" Monster Kid also says Undyne wasn't the best person during the True Pacifist ending. Is Undyne an emotionless sociopath who only wants to see people suffer? No, so why is Chara?

Twice. And then the one person they trusted, loved and cared about, stabbed them in the back. So, especially after seeing the other humans fall and die, Chara's resentment for this world grew. Then Frisk came. Frisk seemed to be very similar Chara, even backstory. So Chara's soul fused with Frisks, giving them the determination to reset and SAVE. In the different runs, Frisk/you teach Chara how to deal with bad memories. Chara learns that some humans are ok. In the pacifist run, you teach Chara that there is comfort in friends, that even the smallest act of kindness goes miles. Chara helps you, providing helpful info to you through the fight screen. This is their view, because it is their name at the bottom of the screen, not frisks. More evidence to support this is that Chara gets quiet during the fights with the Dreemurr family. At the end, and Chara found power in friends, and defeated Asriel. Chara learns that some humans are ok. In the netural, Frisk isn't so resigned. Chara tries to act as the adviser to you, telling you the best way to get out of a situation. Even if it means killing, you did in self-defense. Chara is still hating against humanity, as they watch some of their family die at the hands of humans. And finally, Genocide. Here Frisk confirms Chara thoughts. The way to deal w/ bad memories is to "turn them all to dust". You go through the underground, killing those who had turned on you. You and Chara sinc up so well, Frisk disappears. You kill the mother who was always scared of you. You kill the father who never understood you. You kill you backstabbing lying brother. And at the end. Chara appears and talks to you, thanking you, before they finish what YOU started, and killed everyone. Post-Pacifist; Chara plays along in this silly thing you do, and when you finally get out, they continue what YOU wanted, and killed everyone. =>

My theory is that because chara hated humanity she thought frisk would kill them but seeing them be nice to them all made chara calm. But then when you reset chara sees you kill them all which makes her go insane and start to accept her friends and family are Going die so she just helps killing and become more evil.

My guess is "Chara" is short for "character". Chara is, I suppose, a metaphor of your character in game, and if that's so then "kara" is the way to pronounce it.

before you say well how humans treated monsters look at the lore more speficly the plats on the wall in the waterfall just honestly read what they say and the picture the picture is a monster whos soul has combined with that of a human and think about it the story is told from the preservative of the monsters who lost the war not the humans since we dont know the story from the humans prescriptive most likely a monster killed a human adsorbed/merged there soul and went on a murderous rampage killing humans witch sparked the war and after a series of crushing defeats the humans won and sealed up the monsters cause think about humans wont fight something they dont presevice as a threat and even the mosnters in the underground are able to kill you so i highly doubt the humans didnt loose a single soldier in the war. if you want alittle more proof that the mosnters lied its said that humans cant use magic but in the cutscenes you clearly see a human mage putting up the barrier and if humans couldnt use magic they A wouldnt be able to put up the magical barrier to keep monsters sealed underground and lets talk about the barrier itself its magical in nature and anyone who knows magic (in a fictional sence) that magical barriers/seals weaken over time plus monsters are at least we know is true better at using magic than humans so they should have been be able to break the barrier. and lets talk about chara she sided with the monsters for what the humans did, all the humans did was technically defend themselves and seal up the monsters and if they wanted could have killed all the monsters they had the chance to but they didnt that spared the rest of monsters by sealing them away. witch was probley the nicest thing to do with a race that can absorb your soul. when you look at it it was the only solution the humans had besideds just wiping monsters off the face of the planet so her/him/attack helicopter wanting to kill all humans she's so in the wrong its not even funny. now lets talk about aseil and chara as we know chara died and gave her soul over to asriel who carried her body to the surface where humans where now if history is correct what caused the great war was most likely a monster absorbing a human soul so that was not a good idea as most likely the humans where told thats what happend the remaining monsters where sealed away and what caused the great war so seeing a monster carrying a human body it they would think that its about to be anthor great war and to prevent it they hurt asriel so bad when he got back to the underground he died sorry went into rant mode.

but heres the thing they sealed up the rest of monster kind underground so they had every chance to wipe them out plus monsters and humans do train thats the pretty much the basis of any people in conflit and since monsters do have a king they must have had some form of goverment (Monarchy) and atleast a functioning military as stated the reason Undying is so strong is cause asgore personally trained her the only other monsters seen thats stronger than her is sans and asgore. while yes humans cant get stronger by absorbing a monster soul they are strong enough to face powerful monsters atleast through training and im sure back in the time before the war monsters where alot stronger than they are now humans won the war thats a given but sealing them up was the nicest thing they could have done with a race of beings that can absorb there soul and most likely the sealing was most likely some form of peace treaty. now the battlefield depending on how and where the battles where fought the monsters wouldnt have enough time to absorb human souls on the battlefield and if they tried more than likely they would be killed. and this is the first war between humans and monsters so it can stand to reason the humans have fought wars among themselves and got experince against the basicly non war savy monsters so again after crushing defeat after anthor the monsters lost since they most likely didnt know how to fight a war (witch happens) and the humans had a huge advantage against a non warring people

I think others hate it because they see the game as an attack on violent video games, what with it's encouragement of finding peaceful solutions and shaming you for killing. Frisk is both paths too. You are the one that controls everything, makes every decision. You are just playing a game. That's how the games narrative is. If Frisk goes good, then Chara will continue to just chill with you and narrate everything. Frisk decides to kill, then Chara does too. Learn what humans do and gives you a taste of your own medicine if you refuse at the end. They help you get everything you've been working for to destroy the world kill everyone. They only kill you if you refuse to wipe out the world.

They probably kill you because they realized you were doing it for fun rather than for some great purpose. And they hate resets and people who think that are above consequences. Heck, they even hesitated when Flowey begged for mercy despite LV 20.

+LordBloodpool Well genocide route is basically you kill everyone unlit there's no one left, you really can't say there's moral grayness in such an action since active work to for it. It's really a matter of you earn your bad ending than moral grayness, compare that to the seven nature endings you can get depending who kill or leave alive, and the fact sans only fights you if in the genocide but doesn't in any nature route even if you kill his brother and all major boss because he believes you were just defending your self, and the game has a grayness . But the Genocide route is only active if you really want to see what will happen if kill everyone, in fallout it would like wiping out everybody in game world just see what will happen. Not really an action that you could justify on any level.

True enough, but you can nitpick any game to death. I thought it portrayed it as best as it could have without taking a billion years to develop. It does have several neutral ending too, not just solely 3 total endings.

The radical fans kinda ruin the game for me. But you're right, I should just ignore it.
