In my mind, Chara was a very damaged and traumatized child. They ran away from their village and sought to commit suicide upon Mount Ebbot. However being taken in by the Dreemurrs caused him to grow attached to monsters. Thus began his misguided effort to destroy both the barrier and the humans who hurt him. Later, when Frisk arrived Charas essence latches onto Frisk. Then it is the Player who decides the outcome. If the Player goes towards the Pacifist Route then Charas soul is pacified and simply laid to peace. However if the Player goes the genocide route the soul of Chara, who is still that of a traumatized child reaches a breaking point. Seeing Frisk and the Player mercilessly kill monsters and his "mother" Toriel causes the soul of Chara to become corrupt by not only the Players actions but also the accumulated LV. Chara then becomes a demon and takes advantage of the Players actions to escape the underground.

After you finish the Pacifist route completely, and the 6 main characters are standing in a circle you can walk all the way back to the ruins. If you go to the very first room of the game after defeating Asriel, he is standing over the flowers that you originally fell on. If you talk to him, he tells you that Chara hated humanity and fell down the mountain to kill themself. So yes, they did attempt suicide.

Honestly, portraying Chara as the great threat in Undertale is unfair. In the Genocide route, he says that he realizes why whe came back when you start killing monsters, prompting him to gain in LV and boosting the stats. So what I'm saying is: the Darkness behind Chara? It's you. The player. You're the one who turned him into a demon. Because in the end, in the genocide route...you are the bad guy who decided "let's just kill everyone". Even Sans noticed it. Who do you think "the anomaly" was? Chara was no angel in his living...but YOU made him a demon.

My theory on Chara's relation to Frisk *Pacifist Run= Truly Frisk. this is Frisk acting as their truest self. with no influence from Chara. a hint to this (if I remember correctly) is that your name is only revealed and you are only called 'Frisk' in the pacifist run. I really feel this was a hint left by toby along with "despite everything, it is still you" *Any Neutral Run= Frisk is being 'influenced' my Chara. almost like having a ghost or demon whispering in your ear, or taking temporary being taken over. like, maybe Chara's soul is still human at this point so they are unable to steal Frisk's soul (more about soul steal below) *Merciless/Genocide Run- Total Chara possession. As stated by Flowey in the beginning of the genocide run "you're Chara right?" and "i have a plan to become more powerful, even more powerful than you and your STOLEN SOUL" this means that Chara has stolen Frisk's soul. but I believe this also means that Chara is also no longer a human but rather a demon (like this video stated) because accorded to Alphys's Journal entries, humans can not steal other human soul. Same with monster being unable to steal other monster souls. That is why Flowey could steal both human AND monster souls at the end of the pacifist run, because he was neither monster nor human...he was a demon...flower...thing...lol. anyway, it's also hinted that Chara is not a human or monster based off of how Sans and Asgore address them. Sans stated "it would make my brother really happy if you were a human, so I would really appreciate if you could keep PRETENDING TO BE ONE" and Asgore says "i'm sorry but what kind of monster are you? sorry but I can not tell." this pretty clearly implying that they are neither human nor monster. now again, this is only MY THEORY so I could be wrong but I do think I have some pretty solid evidence to support it. but what do you guys think?

Is Chara really evil? Whe Chara fell she was probably fell because she wanted to commit suicide, she was being bullied . She fell and got found by Asriel. He took her Chara to the Dreemurs and was loved. She baked a pie using buttercups and poisoned Asgore. She felt bad and "laughed it off". Most characters do this when they are sad or scared. She poisoned herself to let Asriel absorb her soul. She wanted to see the buttercup flowers in the overworld. He got there and was accused of killing Chara. He went back to the underground and died where you first start out in the game. Where Chara died buttercup flowers grew there. When frisk fell Chara was awokken by Frisks determination and was now a ghost following Frisk on her adventure. She saw everyone she loved. She gave you descriptions of all the characters when you were in battle. But if you choose the genocide route she be silent for most of the battles like Sans, Undyne, and mom and dad. Chara was never a murderer, the only person she killed was herself. Frisk was the one making the decision to kill everybody while Chara is just hopelessly watching while all off her friends and family were being killed right before her. She was around 10 most likely and didn't know how to respond to all of that confusion.

... What I have as a theory is kinda crazy. So Chara, the first fallen human, raised with Asriel under the care of Asgore and Toriel Dreemurr was a normal child. Possibly abused or orphaned on the surface, they were left with a deep 'hatred' for humanity which is really just depression. Finding a family, Chara forgets their depression until a misread recipie causes them to send Asgore into a near-death sickness. This reincarnates Chara's depression at a higher level, believing it is their fault, they do what most people do when they want to hide sadness. Smile and laugh so the ones they love stay happy. ~Time Skip~ Asriel finds the camera and begins asking Chara about their past. Chara refuses to answer, but instead does a 'creepy face' that scares Asriel. This may be Chara's depression showing through, and Asriel being an oblivious monster, takes the fake yet creepy smile as a scary face. Then Chara remembers about Asgore's situation with buttercups when Asriel mentions them being able to laugh it off and requests the camera to be turned off so their parents could not listen in on the conversation. ~Time Skip~ A few months later, Chara has torn up their internal organs with the poisonous buttercup. Eating the flower puts them into a comatose state. This had been the hidden conversation Asriel and Chara had. Chara was to poison themselves, die, and let Asriel take their soul to get six more and break the barrier. Sadly, in the state of mind they are in, they talk about golden flowers of their village, and Asriel takes that as a tell that Chara wants to see them. After crossing the barrier with Chara's soulless corpse, humans see and attack the young monster believing he murdered the human child. This fuels Chara's rage towards humanity. ~Fallen Down~ More children fall down. Not a single one had the determination Chara had. Then, Frisk falls. Young little determined Frisk. Their determination is strong enough to awaken Chara. Chara then proceeds to help Frisk through the underground. When they begin to kill, Chara grows confused, and ends up helping. Sadly, this twists Chara's mind, and after killing Flowey, they remind Frisk just who was helping them. Chara explains that they are the feeling players get. That they are the summoned demon, but truly, they don't believe this. They are a confused kid who sat through limbo after watching their brother be mercilessly murdered by humans. Chara wants to erase the world, so the player learns a lesson. They want to teach the player that every action has a consequence.

I think Chara is a personiphication of Player's decisions in game. Players often are agressive and cruel in game worlds. If Player is a good person and don't wannna hurt game characters, then Chara is not a demon. Is only a sad child from cruel world. Frisk is one os reincarnation of Chara, because Players play in more than one game.

I honestly think that Chara ISN'T the "evil character". Now, now, I have evidence. Actually ALOT of evidence... *You are the influence to Chara's "evil".* Yes, you, the player. After all, WE are the people who are pressing that "fight" button. We are the ones telling her, pushing her to grab that knife. At the end of the game, Chara states (Not exact same words cause I can't remember the exact words...) 'Oh? You want to go back? After all you've done? Since were you the one in control?'. What Chara said is true but we did have the power of influence. After you play the Genocide route again, you see Chara again. She begs you to do the special "Pacifist route". Sure, after you do what Chara wants, at the end, Chara scribbles over all the characters on the picture, she is actually serving justice. After doing the Genocide route 2 times (or more), she is giving you want you deserved. You killed everyone's families, friends, monsters, you deserved something at least. Most players feel that oh no what has Chara done? No, what have YOU done? This world didn't do anything to you. Actually, it saved you from dying (Starvation and fall) So, why do you have to kill every single creature you see? Note for all paths (Genocide, Pacifist, Neutral). It doesn't matter if it's red text or not, she's always narrator. Chara even knows how the player is! She knows that we think we are above consequences. Chara's story is still a bit clouded. It starts off by Chara trying to kill herself? Again, I'm not sure. She lands on flowers and Asriel finds her. She asks for the fallen human's name and she joins Asriel's family. Fast forwards and Chara and Asriel backs Asgore a pie. They put buttercups as one if the ingredients, Thus posioning him. They children after all! And Asriel was helping Chara so why isn't he one of the "evil characters"?. After that discovery, Chara realized that if she died, the border could be broken. She was a human after all. So, she posioned herself so Asriel could absorb the 6 now 7 humans souls, thus be able to break the border. Well, that was their plan. Asriel made it up to the surface, Chara still with her and advising her, Asriel walked towards a small village. The humans, seeing this monster with a dead child in it's hands, assumed that the monster had killed the child. So, they drove him out. Chara told Asriel to fight back because she wanted to show Asriel how cruel humans really are, thus driving her to falling down the mountain (I theorize). But Asriel gave Mercy. But the humans did not. They drove them down, back into the monster world. So, they placed Chara's body down below the golden patch of flowers where they had met her. When Frisk fell down, her/his determination was so that Chara was brought back, thus making herself useful by giving tips and building the child and acting as the narrator. Anyways, if you want more evidence I got more. Just tell me if you want to see it. I guess I should wrap this up. So those were some of my reasons and explanations to why Chara is not "Evil". It's actually the opposite, Frisk killing monster is what corrupts Chara, not Chara corrupting Frisk. Chara says "with YOUR guidance I realised the purpose of my reincarnation" which means that Frisk killing everybody made Chara think that he was reincarnated to get more power, and if you go by the Chara narrator theory you'll realise that Chara got reincarnated the moment Frisk fell on the flower bed and since they were so confused they decided to let Frisk guide them instead of controlling Frisk by themselves.

Note that Chara is very similar to Chakra. The Google definition is "each of the centers of spiritual power in the human body, usually considered to be seven in number." Coincidence? The fact that spiritual power in the human body is basically the soul or the trait each fallen human soul had. And that there were 7 human souls originally.

I feel bad for chara. she fell into the underground to end their awful life, and ended up finding a family instead. they gave their life in one of the most painful methods, poisoning themselves with buttercups, just so they could save all monsters. they didn't go to the surface to kill all humans, they went to get six souls. and when asriel was being attacked, they told him to fight back. now they're the villain of the story. Chara may have some mental issues from her time on the surface, but I don't think they were ever evil. They only become evil when they are forced to. they are a servant to the player, and they assist you no matter what path you choose. even if it means having to watch you destroy their former friends and family.

Well the question about Chara falling into the Underground--Unlikely that it was out of suicidal intent. Chara canonically trips over a branch into the Underground. Upon their landing, they also call out for help, likely out of desperation. If they truly wanted to die, they probably would've just stopped trying and accepted their fate. Another thing is that Asgore himself compares Frisk to Chara, saying they have the same "look of hope" in their eyes.

WD Gaster is involved with Chara. Chara themself is neither a demon nor aware of the game. But their Determination is. From a spiritualist standpoint, a Soul is a compromise of two major parts. A spirit and a noncorporeal mass. Chara, the good character, would be the Spirit. Whom possesses Frisk at the start of the game. Introducing us to narration. The Mass would be the Determination. In this case, a black blood-like substance that is hinted at in the sprites of Flowey, Hypergod of Death Asriel, the Amalgamites, the Map pieces for True Lab, WD Gaster, and Demon Chara. Also remember that according to Alphys' notes, she extracted Determination from the Blueprints of the Soul. Where did those Blueprints come from? Take not that Chara's soul is also missing from all the souls collected. While this can be assumed it was destroyed with Asriel's body, you have to remember the six souls still existed after the destruction of Omega Flowey. So where did Chara's soul go? It can then be assumed Gaster experimented on Chara's Soul. This is most likely the experiment that killed Gaster, and ultimately lead to the creation of Undertale.

I think what is left of chara's soul floods into frisk when they fall. Chara's body is buried under these flowers. If frisk is an evil child, then chara returns as that, the levels and numbers dictate who chara grows into. In pacifist their soul doesn't gain power, but still conscience. It calls for Asriel, your best friend. but they cannot do anything, the only route with asriel coming back is where chara has no control. maybe that's why they want frisk's soul? to do pacifist and end things right. the chara flash thing at the end of the game was most likely them waking up, and I theorize going to find asriel.

I would add that in the genocide run, Chara possesses Frisk. if you look into a mirror in Toriel's house after Clearing the ruins of everyone but toriel, instead of saying "It's You!" it says, "It's me, Chara."

It's my personal belief that Chara was NOT the villain of Undertale. They weren't a villain at all. They were a child, an _impressionable_ child. When you first start a game, you, the Player, have a choice. You can choose to be a pacifist, and refuse to hurt anyone, even if it means your character will die multiple times. You can choose to protect your character even if it means killing in self-defense (Neutral). Or, you can choose to actively seek to murder every single monster you can in order to gain power (Genocide). Frisk doesn't choose this. _You_ do. Chara's spirit is there when you make that choice. Since we know human souls linger after they've died, it's a logical conclusion to make that Chara would be nearby when another human falls into the underground. While we don't have any factual evidence that a human soul can speak to anyone, we _do_ have evidence that they can affect other beings, since that's the reason why Omega Flowey is defeated in the Pacifist route. This leads me to believe that Chara actually can speak to Frisk, especially with the theory that the two of them share the same Soul Trait: Determination, which is cemented by the red heart--or soul-- in the True Lab. The only thing I can see interfering with this, is that their soul is _in the lab_ so maybe it's their...essence? That's talking to Frisk throughout their adventure? Still working out the bugs on that one, to be honest. So, Chara is there from the beginning, and I believe that they are the Narrator. Keeping this in mind, when you make the choice to do the Genocide run, they are influenced by the Player. Chara was never the villain. Far from it, actually. They may have harbored a hatred for humanity, but that's the only thing that was wrong with them. They gave their life, sacrificed themselves in a selfless, heroic act to save monsterkind, because in their young mind, they were the only one who could do it. Another human may fall into the underground, but would more likely refuse to give up their soul. Chara's reasons for falling were canonically unhappy. They were, very likely, suicidal in the first place. They had given up on life from the start, and they were just happy to have a family that loved them at all. They were the best candidate, in their mind, because they were supposed to die that day anyway, and their hatred for other humans would make it easier for them to take the souls needed to free the people they loved. Chara was a good kid. Flawed, like any other, but still had a _good heart._ You chose to kill. You believed that it was okay to do that. And in doing so, _you taught Chara, an _*_impressionable child_*_ that killing is okay._ You taught them that nothing else matters, besides power. You. You created a demon from the soul of a child. You are the villain in the Genocide route.

Watching this again and comparing Chara's story with Kris' story (From DELTARUNE Chapter 1) made me think some interesting thoughts: 1. It has been speculated that the Dark World in DELTARUNE is shaped by Kris' imagination, at least in part. Perhaps the whole Underground and all the Monsters were also created by Chara's imagination, desire to have a family of people that cared about them and/or to gain superpowers to get revenge on the humans they hate. 2. If Chara's thoughts shaped the Underground in some way, maybe that helps to explain why they came to know about the stat mechanics and say that they are tied to the very process gaining them. 3. This would also help the "Narrator Chara" theory, since they would be easily able to explain anything in the Underground to Frisk, since everything inside it comes from mind.

Theory: Charas evil soul and Asriel's good soul are both in Flowey, fused. Asriel's soul has most control over the forms that Flowey takes, but Charas evilness has infected Asriel. By using the souls to break the barrier, one soul has to be destroyed right? What if Asriel destroyed Charas part of the soul? What if flowey isn't so evil anymore? By taking the genocide route, you destroy Asriel, and release Chara. By taking the pacifist route, you destroy Chara, and turn Asriel good again.

I think that Chara started out nice, but then wanted to help break the barrier, and because of the buttercups, her mind got all screwy, and she started to go crazy. However in the genocide run, she wants to kill everyone for the same reason Flowey feels no mercy- she has no soul, so she can't feel love or compassion or mercy. That's what I think

I honestly don't think Chara was inheritantly evil. I think Chara was influenced by what path the player chose; genocide run obviously being very traumatic to a young child. There are some in the community who believe Chara "fell" into the underground to take their own life originally but when Asgore and Chara fall ill and Chara dies, Chara sees how cruel humanity really is and starts to harbor a hatred for them for harming their brother and best friend, Asriel. This is just what I believe though.

When you beat asrile dreemur and you go back to the start asrile can appear and tell you why chara fell down or he tells you in the fight

Ok, the suicide thing is confirmed; if you go back to the start of the ruins in the Epilogue of the Pacifist route, Azriel says that "[he] knows why climbed the mountain. It wasn't for a very happy reason." which strongly alludes to suicide. She may have tripped, but she meant to die anyway. It is unknown whether she called for help, only that Azzy found her. She was in the flowers, a novelty in the Underground, so he likely would've found her by chance. But why would she have committed suicide? My personal headcanon is that she had been abused, or bullied, both of which would create a hatred for humans and been possible reasons for suicide. So that covers those. Now, on to the rest of it. With the Dreemurrs showing her so much care, she wouldn't have wanted to hurt them, but with the abuse would come a desensitization towards pain and suffering; the laughter would have been a coping mechanism. Sans does it. Mettaton jokes about it. Even Undyne does it as she's dying if I remember correctly. They were like a ten-to-fourteen-year-old kid. They weren't a sadistic murderer. Come on. It's likely, then, that the plan would come from seeing that everyone who was actually kind to her having a dream, and she has the means to fulfill it for them. The plan was to collect another six human souls, not get Azzy killed. She already didn't care about whether or not she lived or died, she'd planned on committing suicide already, so if her death could grant a whole races deepest desires, it may as well happen. The anger when they got to the village then could have been a combination of protectiveness towards Azzy, her initial anger towards the humans, and his own memories and flashbacks and the pain of reliving them. As for Chara's survival, having a combined soul meant that the soul was stronger than most, with the soul residing with her actually physical body as opposed to Asriel's, which was made of magic and didn't continue on. Asriel lived on through his dust on the flowers. Chara lived through her soul surviving with her in her final resting place (otherwise known as the flowers you land on at the start). With a human falling on top of them, the soul may have awakened to follow or otherwise join Frisk's within their body, also giving power to the "Chara is the narrator" theory. Regarding why then she appears in human form, that would be the power from the stats giving her the power to do so. But why does she have such an appetite for killing the monsters and the whole world? Well, she didn't. But she was young when she died, and then had to go through limbo for quite some time before awakening. She's still impressionable. When Frisk's making friends, she sees a good example and aids it by giving ideas and useful commentary. When Frisk's killing everyone, she learns that the right thing to do is kill. She wants to please Frisk, and thus takes over the killing at the end, with Asgore and Flowey, and believes Frisk would want the complete destruction of the world, and creates an opportunity for that to happen. Chara says that "You and I are not the same", inferring that she doesn't kill just for the sake of it. She's reached her limit, she's confused now. She figured the ending you want, and is confused when you decide to reset it. So ya, sorry about the rant, but I have always believe Chara to be the innocent scapegoat, and am fully prepared to fight to the death about it :D.

I believe that Chara in the genocide run, they got corrupt. When frisk started killing, they thought that you where looking for power. But it wasn't they're fault. They say "you pushed everything to its edge" Chara had no part in that. And if you do a second genocide route, they tell you to do a pacifist route! I don't think that Chara is the true villain of UNDERTALE. But one question I must ask is, does UNDERTALE really need a villain???

I feel like the first time he fell in, it was a suicide attempt. He landed, and all that stuff happened, but Chara could have realized something. He could have remembered why he threw himself into the cave to try and kill himself and realized how strong monsters were compared to humans, especially in his time since there aren't wizards and warriors anymore. Chara, realizing he can get revenge on all the people who bullied him, hatches a plan for revenge with Asriel. Chara poisons himself and lets Asriel absorb his soul to cross the barrier, from there, he would take over his body and destroy humanity for what it did to him. However, what he did not account for would be Asriel's soul. Asriel was filled with determination, making him immune to the corruption of human souls. Because of this, Chara is trapped soulless and memoryless on the surface after waking up on the flowers. Chara returns home to a new family and new name... Frisk. Frisk goes up to the mountain, looking for flowers to give their mom, and trips into the underground once again. The reason I say that Chara lost his memories is because Asriel's soul was lost inside Flowey, making him forget everyone and everything. For the genocide route, Chara seeks revenge on the monsters for being filled with determination and not letting him destroy humanity, and in doing so, grows stronger and stronger with more souls he absorbs, eventually resulting in the destruction of everyone and everything. In the pacifist playthrough, Chara embraces Frisk as his new self and seeks to forgive everyone, and is then filled with determination, making him finally whole.

One answer, Chara hates humanity because they trapped the monsters underground. Thats why..
