i watchin enough games with him, well - he is good player. but as any player he have his BUT. His + are tuff 1-1 isolation game and phisicality, he reminds me Griffin - he feels like tank no matter who stays against him, and he is one of top player in Europe in those components on his position no doubt. about cons.. In my opinion his basketball iq is not enough to be extralevel player. I remember times with De Colo, Teodosich, Papalukas in CSKA as playmakers - it was sistem. Mike's game is like russian rulete. Team is alive while he is alive, and dead if he dead. Ok we can talk if he is good role player, for example if coach sent him from bench for buzzard points or same - but MJ have his feature - he needs to catch energy from his own game, and some times it may take 3\4 or even whole game when he gets superman mode.
@urbananalrapist
@urbananalrapist 3 жыл бұрын
I think that might be a good assessment. I haven't watched him play much, so I needed data on him. On other highlight and training videos, people were commenting that he should be in the NBA, and claiming that "politics" is keeping him out. For sure, he looks like an explosive scorer with a nice jumpshot in his highlights, but what was his usual game like? So I looked at his stats and game log from his only season with the Phoenix Suns. As you said, "russian roulette" game. He would have a few games where he would explode for almost 30 points on 10/20 shooting. But he would have just as many games where he shot 1/10. Overall, he shot 37%. Coupled with the fact that he's only 6'1" with short arms at age 27 already (in his rookie NBA season), and it was easy to see why he didn't stay in the league. He was mostly at his ceiling already, and was an inefficient energy scorer. The NBA has way too many fringe players similar to him trying to get into the league, and he probably doesn't have additional aspects to his game to make up for his inefficient shooting and lack of length.

@@urbananalrapist i think - whole nba is about stability. they want stable players. i think any team management better will take pplayer with 10-15 average pts per game with stable % some stable assists and deffence, against player who can get 30-40 in one game with 50% and then same with 20-25%. it is important thing.
@urbananalrapist
@urbananalrapist 3 жыл бұрын
@@drobiIIka I think that all leagues are about stability. For me, one of the key defining aspects of a "professional player" is his/her stability. They are literally being paid to produce to a certain level every game. That way, management and coaching can produce a gameplay based on that predictable production. The best example for me are professional racing drivers. They pro drivers aren't going all-out every lap. They are for sure fast every lap, but they produce a repeatable and predictable lap time that is consistent within half a second every lap. The team can thus plan a strategy around that lap time, and can predict tire wear, fuel usage, and engine wear. For a good NBA team, the season is essentially two seasons. One season is the 82 game regular season. The other is the playoffs. The regular season, IMO, you need to plan that as a war of attrition. Players will go down with injury during the long season, so you need to balance what you plan to maximize. Go all-out during the regular season, and you have nothing left during the playoffs. Worse, you give away all your secret strategies only to win more regular season games, which mostly don't count (except for playoff seeding and home court advantage). In racing parlance, you set a fast predictable pace (by this, I mean the team's intensity levels, not the number of possessions per game) that will get you to a certain position, while making sure you have enough playmaking/shooting/defense deserves to grind out close victories as needed (since those wins may determine whether you make the playoffs). In essence, you are throwing some games while winning most. The team should not care because they are still playing to their pace. In addition, you can use the regular season to try out some strategies that might help in the playoffs. The playoffs is different. You can throw at most 1-2 games. The margin for error is much slimmer. These is basically the last laps of a close race, and you need to go all-out against similarly-skilled teams. Of course, the NBA playoffs are a long season themselves if you make it to the Finals. Against inferior teams, the elite teams can afford to play a pace just slightly above their regular-season pace because they can still beat the inferior team. Against other elite teams, the series becomes more of an intense chess match, with each team looking to exert their dominance over the other team while not revealing too many secrets until it is absolutely necessary to use everything you have. So for the regular season, you definitely need your "professional" players who can provide consistent replicable production every game for 70-82 games. But for the playoffs, you may need that "wildcard" player to occasionally win you a game or two. Mike James could have been a good wildcard player, or a sparkplug off the bench for an NBA team. But as a starter or a regular season player, his production was too erratic, and his potential a bit too low to be of much help.
@drobiIIka
@drobiIIka 3 жыл бұрын
@@urbananalrapist in first post i told my opinion why mike is not good as a role or bench player, especially if we talk about playoffs. but its only my opinion. also it is money deal. i dont think nba teams will pay him as overseas just for few role minutes.

No player is a mystery to execs in the NBA. So there are the reasons why he's not in the NBA. I think it's cause the ball sticks to him too much. Too much iso pound and that doesn't work in the NBA. Can't play well within the offense. A la Jimmer Fredett. Which is who he reminds me of. Also how his defense might be suspect. Haven't see him play defense so I can't confirm this.
