Yes. You will need to receive initiation in order to practice the mantra. Without this initiation your recitations won't attain accomplishment. I don't say this to be some kind of gatekeeper. But there are very specific interdependent connections that happen during a Vajrayogini initiation. These connections make it possible to connect with the deity.

@@whatsinaname7828 There's ways to connect with Vajrayogini without using the mantra. Devotional prayers and supplication etc. Mantra recitation is reserved for initiates.

@@Scoutediting I have no idea why he thought it was a good idea to recite this mantra. Generally one would receive a 2 day major empowerment and practice that before one would receive the Vajrayogini mandala initiation. My teacher the 41st Kyabje Sakya Trizin would never dicuss this practice in public and he's the main lineage holder of Naropas Vajrayogini cycle.

But the mantra is very different

Chinnamasta as different from Vajrayogino, however, look at them more as concepts, and there can be similarities in iconography because the underlying essence is Buddha Nature

They are not the same. There are so many forms as various as people with different sets of perception. They appear according to the followers mental capacity. Buddhist and hindu approach is completely different even when they pray to the same diety. For Buddhist, she represents emptiness and no self, which Hindus have no place in their beliefs. Atman and creater god is the main core belief of Hindus. Vajrayogini is an emation of Tara. 21 form of Tara is very popular with Tibetans where as same Tara apperars in different form in indian belief system. She is well know in West bengal and adjoining areas.

We may see our guru in a drunkard, or our abusive father, or the priest in our local temple. Our teachers can be anyone. We often measure teachers by how accessible their teachings are (whether _we_ understand _them_ ) But the old adage goes, *"when the student is ready, the teacher appears."* This is because our ability to derive dharma-understandings from somebody else is not completely dependent on the other person, but rather the openness of _our own_ mind. If you cannot derive meaningful lessons from his teachings, while many others so often do, then it may be that, in actuality, you are the one with a lack of clarity.
