Something strange is happening in Dubai. The desert oasis is home to some of the most extravagant architecture, people and CARS in the world. But someone is abandoning their cars in the desert, sometimes with the keys still in the ignition Who is responsible? Wealthy Sheikhs? Rich kids? Or is something else going on? We’re gonna find out.

I've got a whoooole long list of license platesh for sale: are you interested? I've even got plates that I got, uh... people would go out and, homestead, like in Barstow. They have to build a little house to get the property. You still see them out there. Then they had to make a roof. Well out of uh... you know, a company that used to melt the plates down, fact they were in Ontario and then, going out that way on that railroad route, or get or getting plates coming this way, I don't know, then the train derailed, so here's a big pile of license plates, they're all from the 30's, layin' out in the desert. So these people would take 'em, and they'd make their roof out of them, like tiles, sprayed 'em silver, so I've got all these plates with extra nail holes in 'em, and with little parts of them on the back, sprayed with silver, and I know a lot of people who have 'em too, it's because of the story.

No kidding.. I spent nearly $500 on shark cards buying everything I wanted in the game.. the game never improves and completely wastes your time.. last year, during the pandemic my timer on gta said I spend 56 out of 365 days on the game.. considering the game hasn’t progressed at all even with the new update, I had to call it quits with that sad ass game.. left at rank 370 something with about $50 mil in the bank and every car/house I’ve wanted..haven’t played in nearly 3 months and I feel like a recovering crack addict lol

Greetings from Dubai. Nice vid, just a small correction, police doesn't use these cars as interceptors, matter of fact, police doesn't chase anyone here, and people are not dumb enough to run in most cases, and in most cases you just get an SMS and email with a fine( ranges from a minimum of $200 to like $10k + impound + ...). Those police supercars are demo cars from dealerships who lend the cars for a year to Dubai Police Special Vehicle Unit (that does fall under police, but actually work under Tourism Dept and serve as a marketing tool). Police rolls up in them on certain events, but are generally rare driven on the road and not used for active duty. And for the dealership it's the best rolling billboard money can buy.. Hope this helps.

I spent two years working in the UAE and saw this first hand. I saw these abandoned luxury cars at random places but airport and hotel parking garages were the most common. It was a sad sight to see!

@@starvalkyrie It's actually very easy to get large loans in the UAE since they do not have a credit system like the US. They offset the potential liability by having extremely harsh punishments for not paying, ie: prison.

@@BigfootUnibrowMan That's not how risk management works. I can certainly see them being more lenient, but they're not going to be given to people that have no chance of making the monthly payments. The scenario presented in the video is some misfortune befalls the borrower, like losing their income. Dubais frycooks are not ditching Ferraris in the desert. He was a wealthy man until he lost his job. Just not disgusting wealthy enough to weather that loss.

Thank you for this video. I remember when I first heard about this phenomenon 15 years ago of "Range Rovers being abandoned in the desert" I was told the people were so rich that instead of buying gas for the truck that would leave them in the desert and get a new car. Which never made any sense to me. Again thank you

Maybe it's just me ... ... but what I find tragic about these cars simply abandoned is just how many hours of work it takes to build even one, just on the craftsmanship, and stitching, on the seats alone. There was a time, and possibly still is, when Aston Martin prided itself on the fact that each engine was assembled by one man, whom had his name on a small, discrete, plaque on it. So, imagine being one of those many craftsmen (and - women) whom spends hours, if not days, building such a car ... only to have it dumped, left it slowly rot away. If they saw what happened to their craft, it's enough to make them weep ... Fortunately, Dubai is relatively dry most of the year, so water damage is not wholly unpreparable. Heck, even in Arizona, there's the infamous 'Boneyard' where the USAF parks hundreds of aircraft, especially the iconic B52s, although many of those have been largely stripped out for parts. In fact, there's plenty enough F111s to equip at least one (British) RAF squadron, which, given the whole debacle which resulted in our cancellation of our TSR-2 (with Canada experiencing something similar), given we no longer have the equivalent of a long range strike aircraft, and the F-111 likely to be completely retired by the USAF, along with the B-1b, I say the USAF owes it's debts to both the RAF, RCAF, and possibly the RAAF, too ... But going back to the cars. Even a totalled car, out in the desert still has worth, not just in spare parts. Although turning the seats in to a four piece suite for one's sitting room seems like an ignonimous end, given the high quality of materials, and workmanship, involved, up-cycling those seats, instead of having them crushed up into scrap, is still better than that. Even 'scrap' alcantara goes for reasonable prices ... which, again, ripping that out of a supercar may also be ignonimous, but, again, better than it being crumpled up, with the car. Even the engine itself is potentially very worthwhile salvaging. Then there's the carbon fiber ... Heck, if I could start up my own business, it would be exactly that: salvaging what one can. After all, to us petrol heads, what would be a more perfect gift that a chair, or settee, made from the seats of your favourite marque car ... ... but that's just a crazy idea I have ... [Edit: I don't know how many will see this but, if you do, am I crazy in thinking this way ...? Let me know below ... ]

One point to consider, damage from over rev's, and driving without caring of mechanical consequences. Also maintenance most surly was neglected. Sand in the intake from a compromised air filter will require work that buyer hadn't considered. Probably not a good idea to play with these toys...

Your friend is correct. There are gold bar vending machines. I lived in Abu Dhabi almost a year and drove a Land Cruiser. It was pretty common even with a $100k price tag. Ex-pats do in fact dump and run before the note is 90 days late.

Actually some middle eastern park their cars (nissan patrol/pickup or Toyota hilux/landcruiser usually white colour) In the sand for months and years just to take a picture of the car while its dusty and call it nassab نصب

Well, I was born and I live in uae FYI, and it's pretty common to see random g wagens in the parking floors, heck there's a 2020 model gathering dust 17 levels below me, So yeah nobody actually pays ANY attention to these expensive cars And you can't just get out of dubai with a arrest warrant on you, they'll check your visa or emirates ID, then IF you have some warrant issued, well, I'm pretty sure you'll hope jail isn't as bad as it is said to be

The reason is in many of these middle Eastern countries it is illegal to leave if you are in debt. Many people try to keep up with the lifestyle on show in the UAE, either Iver extend themselves or lose their jobs due to 2 or 3 recessions at this point. They then run and leave before there is a chance to stop them. However they will immediately be arrested if they were to enter the UAE again and held until debt paid.

Haha, it's not all it seems like there, I used to live there till like 2 years ago and unless you're a multi national millionaire or something your best bet is to stay where you are, no kidding... The tax they were taking about was just income tax, the rest of the expenses that are to be paid for an expat living there are just way too much for a normal person... And about them making money from oil, that was many years ago, now it's mainly the tourism and the money they squeeze from said expats so yeah just keep these things in mind if you are even close to thinking of doing something like this...

But like every scheme, there are some winners ( expat opportunists aka rich ppl and most locals) and lots of losers ( the average joe, mostly immigrants doing all the grunt work). This is eventually going to implode cause the novelty of the place is quickly disappearing so no tourism and no more oil money to bail them out! This is common knowledge to anyone who’s spent any time there.
