As a mechanic I've worked on a fair share of Audi and Bentley cars and almost all the components have VW stamps in them which is a good thing because by European car standards VW parts are affordable and easy to get. I drive a VW Golf and it actually shares certain parts with those cars, even the 2010s Bentleys had the same chimes. If i can rememberer a Bugatti Veyron has the same crank seal part number as a Golf.

Here in australia Europe cars are trash and vw parts are expensive. If you don’t know much about cars mechanics will scam the hell outta u here. Japanese brands like Toyota, Suzuki and Honda are the go to here and really cheap parts.

@@syrus1233 How about American car brands there? They’re by far the cheapest parts here in Canada but Honda and Toyota are still the favoured brands here as they’re more reliable. I worked at a Toyota dealership and some components can be expensive, I replaced a mirror glass on a van and it was $520. VW parts here aren’t that expensive. The most expensive parts are from Mercedes. It’s not uncommon to pay $30 for a single bolt.

There's still Lotus, Rolls Royce, Bentley, and both Jaguar and Land Rover prior to being bought by Ford. Ford just did what they always do. They bought a famous company, ran it into the ground with shitty cash grabs, then let someone else clean up the mess

I had a Swift GTi back in 89, was a ton of fun to drive, sadly, was a royal pain when repairs were needed, which happened far too frequently. Parts were never available, had to wait for weeks, until they authorized taking parts from a new car so as to avoid the rental fees they were paying for me to have a vehicle to drive.

As a kid in the 90's my family owned a Daewoo Espero which used the General Moters J platform as its design base. My car is a 1969 Wolseley Hornet which was the British Motor Corporation's more upmarket Mini but using the Wolseley and Riley marques that they'd bought up, mini platform but it had an extended trunk and a unique grille and Wolseley's distinctive light up badge.

1st: Sharing parts with other vehicles is the best. This is what made WV number 1. 2nd: If I'm not mistaken, Porsche was trying to buy VW but spent so much money on it they became cheap enough for VW to buy them. And I don't really care if that is not exactly what happened, such a good story shouldn't be ruined by reality. (but seriously, if you know more details about the Porschwagen story, please let me know)

When I bought my first car in 1970 (a Chevy Bel Air) I was at the dealer when the car was offloaded from the transport. There was a 1970 Buick LeSabre on the same transport and someone said there was not really a dime's worth of difference between my Chevy BelAir and the Buick Lesabre. Yet the Buick was about several hundred dollars more that the Chevy.

It gets even more complicated if you look at the actual manufacturer of a car, or the manufacturer of main components like the engine or the chassis. For instance, Volvo was using Renault and Audi/VW engines for its cars, and most common rail diesel engines are based on FIAT/PSA constructions. Audi in turn is the remaining brand of Auto Union, whose four rings symbolize the four brands they originally represented: Audi, Horch, Wanderer and DKW. Audi also bought NSU, a maker of the Ro80, the only other mass produced Wankel car beside the Mazda R series. PSA and FIAT cooperated for a series of minivans, the Eurovan project. The resulting product was sold as the FIAT Ulysse, Lancia Zeta/Phedra, Peugeot 806/807 and Citroën Evasion/C8. PSA also cooperated with Toyota for the Toyota Aygo, Citroën C1 and Peugeot 1008. FIAT and Saab produced the FIAT Croma, Lancia Thema, Saab 9000 and (with a different design) Alfa Romeo 164. The list goes on...

Regarding Honda; it's worth mentioning that unlike all other conglomerates/holdings, Honda actually created the Acura badge, same as Toyota done with Lexus. So while yes, they "own" this "brand", they are technically independant manufacturer, unlike other brands that were bought by "big boys" (Audi bought by VW, Opel by PSA etc.) It's also worth mentioning, that Opel owns "Vauxhall" brand (exactly same cars, but sold under different name in UK, for marketing reasons)

You can add trucks to the list also. VW controls Scania and MAN heavy trucks. Daimler controlls Mercedes trucks and holds Daimler North America with Freaithliner trucks and so you can go on adding to the list on who owns what.

Ford bought into Mazda around the mid 90’s and sold in early 2010’s, from what I’ve been told, after that they bought into Aston Martin, that’s why your 2013+ Ford Fusion looks like an Aston Martin... The 2.3 Engine is also Mazda, and most of their 3.0L v6’s (Duratec)

Corrections : 1) FCA no longer owns 90% of Ferrari. They have sold all their shares 2) VW doesn't directly own Lamborghini. VW owns Audi, Audi owns Lamborghini, Lamborghini owns Ducati Fun Fact : Porsche Holding owns VW, which in turn owns Porche (the car company)

Daihatsu also owns Perodua which is a Malaysian brand like Proton which is own by Geely stated in the video. Perodua cars uses Daihatsu platform with a Toyota engine, with this we basically build Toyota cars that cost almost 50% less than actual Toyota but still maintaining the same quality and reliability.

To Nolan: You missed 3 things: In 2020, FCA and PSA will merge to become Stellanis, which the name will be used in early 2021, Chrysler owns half of Diamond-Star Motors, which is essentially a partnership between Chrysler and Mitsubishi, and GM owns half of DMAX, which is a partnership between GM and Izuzu Motors.

Suzuki is actually present in a huge way in India. They are the oldest international brand continuing uninterrupted since the early 80s. It's a JV called Maruti Suzuki where Suzuki owns about 57% of the alliance. They have sales of about $13 B. Company is valued at 40B. They are the largest passenger vehicle maker in India but still 1/3rd the total sales of tata motors (India only)

I lived in Adelaide near the Holden Factory in Elizabeth.Holden stopped making vehicles in 2017 and import rebadged Kias,Isuzu's and Opel's.Theres no longer a V8 in the rebadged Holden range or Commodore based ute.The Elizabeth Plant is overgrown with weeds and just a big white elephant.

2:40, correction. LADA isn't defunct. 'Joint-stock company "AvtoVAZ"' is the legal name of the LADA brand in Russia. Yes, in the soviet period of existing LADA was the brand for export cars for easier pronunciation but later, in the 90s, it became the name for the whole model line, as I remember, from LADA 110, first post-USSR model. So AvtoVAZ and LADA is the same thing.

My Volvo has a PSA engine, that was used on... Peugeot, Citroen, Ford, Volvo, and some say even Mazda, each using it on at least 2-3 models each. Makes it extremely easy to find parts.
