I live in Dayton, OH where GM Truck and Bus was located. Management and labor jumped off the cliff together. Everyone was self-centered and cared little about sustainability. They were in a bubble of delusion for years and the local non-GM people felt little sympathy for them when things got bad. Take this example and spread it to plants all across the USA and there you have it.

Except for the expensive Corvette, and to a lesser degree, the Camaro, GM stopped building two door cars...All they made was four door taxi cab style cars...Not everyone wants to drive a taxi, while others don't care what they drive....For lots of people, cars are a passion, and for the rest, they're simply an appliance to be discarded when worn out,...if they don't fall apart first...Give me a nice moderately priced two door sedan with RWD and a choice of transmissions...Not just automatics only...Just my two cents.

I worked for GM. What I saw was the method used by individuals to get promoted. I actually heard the term used by "salary people". They would use this term, "Grab 'hold the coat tails of the guy above you." What that means is, kiss his/her ass, suck up to him, do what it takes to make that person your ticket to the top spots. Problem is, it created too much dependence on the buddy/buddy system and not looking at the true qualifications of the individuals. The true meaning of what we all know as "brown noser's".

When GM built the engine with TIMING CHAINS on front AND rear of the engine, it became a game changer in the service industry. The timing chain is a repair procedure every owner eventually needs, but the NEED TO REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY for repair turned what use to be a few hundred dollars into a few thousand dollar repair COST. The SMART owner of the vehicle with this engine took a LOSS getting RID of the engineering NIGHTMARE.

@@Smokeless1167 so true. Everyone wants to blame the unions.. unions keep corporations in check and it's the only presence that can do do this in a capitalist Marketplace.. the executives make huge excessive amount of money for doing a terrible job and no one ever wants to put the blame where it supposed to go.. is no reason why domestic cars cost as much as they do today, such as Cadillac or high-end Buicks. Back in the day I could not afford either one of these cars new and I live in the u.s. any of the new flagship Cadillacs are way out of my range, and if I could afford to buy one new today it would depreciate so fast so bad that it should have never cost that much in the first place, lol. The executives need to drop the price and make General Motors great again. It's a damn shame

Biggest thing the union did to hurt the automaker was structure the pensions the way they did, but the company agreed to it. The company failed to evolve its product line, engineers aren't Union, gm also failed to invest in "error proofing" and then the bean counters began cheaping out on the parts that they put the cars together with. There's a list of shit the union did wrong, but the companies always had the final say wether people admit it or not. Managements attitude that the money would never stop caught up to them. The floor workers wanted change but management wanted to fight everything talk to anyone that was involved with the Pontiac Aztec complete disaster and the uaw knew it before production and voiced their opinion but it wasn't observed.

Use to be that the engineers draftsmen and upper managers started on the assembly line, and they worked their way up the ladder. They knew the complete process inside and out. They knew how to fix real world snafus on new products. But some where along the way, they decided to hire a kid ,snot nosed no street smarts right out of college for next to nothing, making design decisions, for cost cutting. And of course the old timers couldnt get along with morons like that, and probably got tired real quick of bailing them out when the blueprints were wrong, ect. Unions and the perpetual pressure for more and more and the reluctance of the corporation to settle for less profit to keep their wealth and investors happy . The intersection of the two is the breaking point called greed which leads to failure . Everyone wanted to win in which case everyone lost . 🇺🇸

Right exactly right my mother's brother-in-law was a maintenance man at the Kansas City GM plant his whole life until he died a few years ago and he bragged about being drunk on the job everyday while at work and since he was Union GM couldn't fire him. SO, FUCK GM.😂🤣😃😃😄😃🤣😂😂

Majority owners that don’t have a say in anything. What happened was that they forgot about the customer. Greed by the union and agreed by the upper management. That’s why Toyota would always be the better company.

GM didn’t ask the customer what they wanted, they TOLD them what they were going to get. Wrong people making important decisions. And when that didn’t work, blame it on the unions. No, it’s GM styling and management

Just like Washington...GM has NO leadership abilities..Management is the problems with General Motors..WHO changes design, quality, production, supervisors, lead people. WHO has the responsibility to listen to the general public ?, the line workers ?..Who decides just what improvements will be incorporated into each vehicle...MANAGEMENT..At SATURN labor was allowed to input ideas into the vehicle..WELL it worked..OOOOPS management did not like that at all..result kill Saturn..

They are following the English model to extinction by building unreliable cars. My father only bought Americain cars whereas my only American car was a 1966 AMC Ambassador which died shortly after 100,000 miles on its second motor(unknown mileage)! Today I drive a 1998 Rav4 with 238,000 kms. I believe they are trying to sneak over to China but I believe China retains 51% ownership of the Chinese facility!

The problems with modern cars and pickups is half the dammed things are made out of plastic, recycled materals, low quaility parts made in China and enough electronics in them to run an aircraft carrier. No one can service or repair their own car anymore, you have to trust a dealer or a local jackwagon mechanic that may not have the thousands dollars of equipment needed to repair them. Front wheel drive sucks, they are so cpmpact under the hood you can even do a simple repair like replacing a belt. They are very overpriced because of all the electronics and technology in them.
