I think Mendy is a top keeper. However, I’ll go as far to say that to put him ahead of Allison is ‘criminal’. I don’t think football fans appreciate that Liverpool’s system would crumble without their goalkeeper. He’s an incredible sweeper, brilliant distribution but most importantly, he is the best one on one keeper in the world, which is so important because Liverpool’s high line results in at least 1 one on one situation being conceded every match, yet he almost always makes the save but we naturally focus on Liverpool’s goals, rather than the save(s) made

Finally someone said it! James has hit the nail on the head regarding all this praise for City winning the league without a striker. Firmino isn't an out and out striker. Yes what City have done is impressive, but they weren't even the first team to do it! Also Fabinho is the best DM in the league. Kante is better as a CM not DM. I'd have Fabinho in DM with Thiago and Kante in front.

People who don't watch Liverpool don't understand that Liverpool don't just have an amazing 'Front 3' we have an amazing 'Defensive 3' which is Allisson, VVD & Fabinho as our Defensive Spine, when those 3 are together Liverpool is incredibly tough to beat. They're as important to us winning anything as our 'Front 3' are.

I will forever have so much respect for both Rory and James. Watching them both debate is the best thing, they know what they're talking about and their points are fair and actually make sense.

As a United fan the only thing that I would change is put Fabinho as the dm and Kante as a cm where he actually started to play more in the last 2 seasons as he became such a good ball progresser under Tuchel.

Thiago's been quality and can do things Kovacic can't. I rate both highly, but it has to be said, the putting down of Thiago here was nuts! He's been very good. Maybe he doesn't slot in perfectly ala Bayern at Liverpool, but he's become incredible central to the way we play. Also rating Mendy over Alisson as though that's a straight forward decision, nuts!

Allison gets in over Mendy, he’s saved us countless times and has the best 1 vs 1 statistics in the league. Kovacic has had some world class moments this year but Thiago atm is the best skillful Cm in the world. I’d actually put Thiago in over Hendo though, our captain has done so much for us in our success but if we’re talking this season, he doesn’t make it unfortunately.

Fab holding and Kante and Thiago as the 8s Idk where this notion that Kante is a holding mid came from but from even back in his Leicester days, he wasnt the holding mid. Drinkwater stayed back and kante drove the ball forward. Kante does the defensive work at an elite level that a holding mid should, but he also drives, creates and scores goals that an 8 does. Even in the euros in 2016, Pogba was the holding mid and Kante was an 8. He would be an elite DM but he does so much more than just defensive work that you're just wasting him there.

I may wear red tinted glasses here but regarding the Fabinho/Kante position in CDM, Kante of 2 years ago walks into that team without a shadow of a doubt, Kante of this season vs Fabinho this season goes to Fabinho. I love Henderson but the way Thiago has played whenever he’s managed a run in the first XI, he’s been superb. Also a West Ham fan picking Mendy over Ali when they somehow beat him at his near post earlier this season. Don’t get me wrong, Mendy is fantastic but Ali is something else

How is Mendy over Allison? Literally Allison saved Liverpool countless times , and don't get me wrong Mendy is a good goalkeeper, but this season he messed up quite a few matches that cost Chelsea important points

As an out and out DM you'd probably want Fabhino because Kante can offer so much more as a box to box.

My combined xi GK- Alisson LB- Andy Robertson LCB- Virgil van Dijk RCB- Thiago Silva RB- Trent Alexander-Arnold CDM- Ngolo Kante RCM- Kovacic LCM- Thiago Alcantara RW- Mohamed Salah CF/ST- Sadio Mane LW- Diogo Jota Picking jota based on the quality season he's had to this point and only out of the team rn cos his knock meant the Liverpool staff had to reshuffle the front 3, and boom we have diaz mane salah now. The difference between Kante and Fabinho is like an A* and an A. You're one of the best around already, but other guy is just that little much better than you that it makes a whole world of difference. Kovacic likewise against keita (this season at least). Other seasons and Kovacic is a no-brainer. Plus for long time I've thought that u can't have Kante without Kovacic and vice versa. Also, the two combined makes it possible for Trent to remain on the front foot in attack without exposing the backline too much. Alisson gets ahead cos most clean sheets as of this moment, one of the best 1v1 gks rn, probably the coolest gk under pressure alongside ederson, and still pretty good with ball at his feet. Mendy has had a terrific season, with the trophies won over the last year and quality matches he's had, but April 2022 has been his most shakiest month ever and imo only thing that puts him ahead of alisson is shot stopping, but then again so is ddg.

Disagree about the attack, imho Bobby has been injured a lot this season, Jota is on a goal drought....... I'd have gone with Salah-Mane-Diaz personally. DM, it depends on how you want to play, if you play a high line you want the taller Fabinho in dm to help with the ball over the top and Alisson is the best sweeper-keeper in the world (he has the best one on one stats of any keeper).
