I will this explains a lot of things. One is Shipyard, they were one of Maine's most well known craft breweries.... They don't even brew in Maine any more. Bass, I loved their beer, I can't find it anymore.

When I went to London I went to Fuller's brewery, there I asked the tour guide how were they dealing with the craft beer movement. He said that it wasnt a big deal since people would drink Fuller's for the name. This was last year when they still were independent

Really nicely done! One suggested tweak to explain US ownership/distribution would be to move Asahi to the top of your chart next to Molson Coors/MillerCoors and highlight how Peroni, Pilsner Uquell, Grolsch, Tyskie, Lech are owned/distributed by MillerCoors in the USA only (as they were before the SAB-ABInbev transaction.)

You mean to tell me that the fine product put out by Steel Reserve is NOT an independent craft brewery? I'm shocked, shocked I tell you! To be honest though, Steel Reserve labels were the first place I ever heard the word "gravity" in connection with beer. I used to drink that garbage when I was like 16. Then I decided to buy a 40 of it once as an adult, to see how it held up. Yeah, I ended up pouring it out. And as for the beers that Carlsberg owns, they sell Baltika (Балтика) in the States too. I've never tried it, because I'm wary of beer sold in plastic bottles.

Mythos, Okocim, Grimbergen, Kronenbourg, Baltika, and Super Bock are all available locally (Bay Area, CA)

Have you perfected a neipa yet? I love your dipa recipe - it would be very good to hear your take on a neipa. Next time I'm in Washington I'll have to drop in for a brew. Cheers

Pretty similar approach, mash slightly hotter, slightly less dry hopping etc.

Another interesting connection to this list would be the Coca Cola company, in Australia Coca Cola Amatil which is a fully owned subsidiary either owns or has the rights to make or distribute several brands of beer and liquor

I might have missed it, but I think adding Victoria Bitter and XXXX Bitter are worth putting on there for the Australian beers. I think they are pretty popular among the regular beer drinker down there.

Both of their brewers are on there. Victoria bitter is brewed by Carlton (which is listed under ABInBev). XXXX is brewed by Castlemaine, which is under Lion.

Geez, big beer owns every small breweries. That is why I only drink from my local breweries and tap room. If I want Fuller's beer, I'll clone it.

@@madfermentationist4470 There really trying to put the squeeze on all the local craft brewers. But Yards just introduced 19.2oz cans of Phila Pale Ale. At 13bucks best deal per oz of craft in the park. Available only at Park.

Also ad that AB inbev is selling its Australian breweries to Asahi for $11Billion so Asahai will have a significantly larger portfolio in 2020

You say Boulevard is primarily Belgian style (7m26s) but that isn't the case. Definitely mostly american styles. I know you know your stuff WAY better than I, I assume you just mispoke. Thanks for doing this video and map!

You're right. I just most associate them with Belgian beers because I drink more Tank 7 and Saison Brett than anything else.

Thanks! The only other complaint I've gotten was three-twelve, rather than three-one-two for Goose Island's beer. Assumed I'd get more.

I wonder if there's anyone who can explain the ownership situation that Alpine is in. Or the Bruery, for that matter. A little niche, I know. Thanks for the video. Great stuff.

Both are on my log, but haven't found a good way to add them. Alpine was purchased by Green Flash a couple years ago... which then went out of business. Both were purchased by WCIPA, LLC afterforeclosure last I read (April 2018). The Bruery is primarily owned by Castanea Partners (which owns a couple dozen brands including Jenni's Ice Cream, Orange Theory Fitness, Brew Dr Kombucha, etc.). I''ve considered adding a catch-all "private equity" but I'm not sure how confusing that would be.

You're going to get some shit for defending AB-InBev buy-outs but I 100% agree. The extra capacity in space and money really allows the smaller breweries to stretch their legs.

They've gotten "smarter" about it over the years. It used to be when a brewery was bought out it was to take their one popular beer national (e.g., Pete's Wicked Ale). The big breweries have talented brewers and deep pockets. Their goals just tend to be different goals than mine (and slimmer profit margins). I've enjoyed the Bourbon County variants less the last couple years as they've moved more towards natural flavorings rather than real ingredients. Plenty of craft breweries use those too though.

We've all got a price unfortunately. Bills need paid, people need a retirement. I understand where the anger comes from, I think sadness is a more justified response to someone selling out. But I'll definitely drink independent as much as possible.

I've been considering adding a majority venture capital owned (Bruery, Ninkasi, Weyerbacher, Schlafly), but they aren't really "connected" to each other.

I was a little outraged about the Catholic Church owning a bunch of breweries... until I realized they were all monk breweries. That makes a lot of sense, actually.

I see Marstons on there, but you completely ignored them on your video. Kind of a shame for me as it's actually the local brew house from when I was a kid living the midlands of the UK, and I've watched them go from the small independent Wolverhampton and Dudley breweries to this now massive UK brewing company. Any particular reason why you skiped over them?

@@madfermentationist4470 That's a shame. I grew up with Banks's and Witchwood are one of my favorite commercial breweries even now.
