Sometimes I feel like they only bring girls because they will seem sexist if they don't. Guys, your real fans don't care. This is coming from a girl - either bring non-annoying ones, or don't at all. It's FINE.

Vladimir Makarov I was just stating a suspicion, I'm not blaming them for anything of course and I love the show. But I just know that if they don't bring in girls for a while people in the comments will go 'omg only guys huh' because it's 2016 and it's literally impossible to not offend anyone. And they probably know that too so they might just be trying to avoid that. And I totally agree that they need to bring in new people but I wish those people weren't annoying, and looking at the comments in this video I don't see anyone rooting for Kim and everyone's just annoyed by her so obviously she wasn't invited as a request from the audience... PS sorry for rambling :/

+Katya M. I think they tend to bring hot girls regardless of their qualities. Either that, or all geeky girls are hot - I'm not really sure :) But seriously, even statistically speaking some of the female guests had to be, for example, overweight - just look at their male guests (and host)! So I think *it is* fair to say that there is some sort of needless bias on their part. *Hey ScreenJunkies, we don't care how hot you guests are!* We're here for classy arguments, not watching pretty pictures!
@NJ-wb1cz
@NJ-wb1cz 8 жыл бұрын
Punksthetic I'm sorry but you took my comment in a direction I will not follow. All I'm saying to SJ - think about all your guests, both female and male, in terms of their oratory skills, knowledge and temperament, not anything else. They seem to be doing ok with male guests in this regard, but with females - Kim is definitely not the only one. I still remember the snoozefest with the second all-female panel, where two of the "fighters" just didn't give a crap about anything, yet somehow still got invited.

I personally dislike whe they do this in any medium , change a characters , gender or race just well... just because , men to female , or one race to another . To me its lazy and in my eyes not really innovative in any way shape or form. I dont want to see a character thats white being turned Black or a black character turned white , can you imagine anyone else playing Blade aside from Wesley Snipes???? I dont like reboots either , i rather have them be sequels , a smart sequel can be good and at the same time respects the original because it still exists in the movies universe ,instead of wiping it out completely , only good reboot has been DREDD XD Like i said , all this Race and Gender Spwaping and movie reboots its Hollywood being lazy , perfect example and its brand new , JUMANJI ... you mean to tell me they cant make that in to some sort of sequel? Someone else finds the Boardgame ... thats it , sequel the original still exists and they can use brand new people i different life situations but no ... Reboot Just lazy

I don't think she's literally offended. It's a figure of speech. She's simply making the point that the character has been developed beyond simply being a female Logan.
@hotcrossandnobuns1850
@hotcrossandnobuns1850 8 жыл бұрын
+Kenneth Jones Exactly! Everyone is misinterpreting what she's offended about. Her being offended is based on the fact that they make it sound like her character is just Logan with a gender swap and nothing more. She is her own character. People would be offended if someone said Deadpool is just a different coloured Deathstroke. Just because that's true doesn't mean they aren't completely different characters.

I'm a hardcore screenjunkies fan. Actually a SJ+ Founder. I'm not upset that feminist and PC arguments were argued. With five sisters I consider myself a feminist but I have to give a thumbs down to this episode for the simple fact that Andy gave a point to the correct argument then backed down because of a humorous comment that hinted at racist judgment on his part. I understand why he did it but its not right. What he should've done was stood strong on its about the argument given in the time allotted, her comment was given after the round, and even after his ruling. You can't just change your ruling because it's a hard decision. Really disappointed

+Isac Horvat Andy and Screen Junkies need to lift their game. That's not to say they can't be experimental, I thought Drunk Movie Fights was brilliant and basically whenever Dan and Hal are fighting it's guaranteed gold. But the continued disregard for legitimate valid judgement Andy shows is getting tiresome.. And what's the point of 'Movie Fights!!' if it's not a fair fight, right?

Nope never said women were oppressed. That's why I didn't respond because I figured anything I said would be misinterpreted or twisted. I guess I shouldn't said egalitarian, I said feminist because that's what specifically people were complaining about.
@GatgerGaming
@GatgerGaming 8 жыл бұрын
Punksthetic also to go back to that first comment. My sister's didn't rob me of my manhood or railroad my masculinity or forced me to think like a women. That's not what I meant. I meant that when you have five sisters (and a mother obviously) that you love you naturally want the best for them. That's why i consider myself a feminist. I've experienced and seen first hand times when my sister's opinions and feelings were disregarded because they were coming from a female and that pisses me off not because I think like a women but because I think like a man and think that people should be treated with equal respect regardless of their sex. And sorry but no, I won't trust the random person on the internet telling me my sister's don't have my best interests at heart. Screw you for that statement.
@GatgerGaming
@GatgerGaming 8 жыл бұрын
Punksthetic when you have women like Malala getting shot in the face for even saying women have a right to education I think it's safe to assume that women are still being oppressed. I've personally heard patriarchal men claim things like women shouldn't have careers, should be subservient to men and basically treat their wives like subhuman species. To give perspective I grew up in a rural, conservative, religious community so I really disagree that females still don't obstacles and sexism today. I agree there is a hyper liberal feminism that skews toward female superiority but I don't agree with that. I agree that it may be naive but I believe that it's better to have hope for a better world then just give up. There will always be racists, sexists, classists, etc... but I will always disagree with them and fight for equality despite these people.

***** Well seeing how each one of the examples you gave the word "offended" could be properly used to show that a subject is offensive. While X-23 who yes I WISH was more than a female wolverine as of right now is being branded as the female wolverine. And I would have agreed with her point if it wasn't because her co-star's kept saying it when that is the current marketing strategy of Marvel. But that is just a personal viewpoint on it. The broad spectrum hate of her is she has been a huge negative influence throughout most of the debate and frankly the easy excuse to latch on to hating her is the fact she used a buzzword.

@EggShen905
@EggShen905 8 жыл бұрын
Kim needs to read more than just feminist historical revisionism if she wants to be taken seriously about Pocahontas/Mataoka. It's a far more complicated story than "she was kidnapped and abused": by most accounts her relationship with Rolfe was positive until its natural end, and her conversion to Christianity genuine. She never repudiated either event, and had plenty of freedom to do so. The idea that she was kept completely against her will is a fringe theory based on speculation and no actual documentation; by all accounts Mataoka was intelligent, strong-willed but humble, wise, and perfectly capable of making her own decisions. Implying otherwise is an insult and disservice to the actual woman the theory is purporting to defend.
@EggShen905
@EggShen905 8 жыл бұрын
And to be clear: I'm not saying everything was rosy for Pocahontas, or women in general, in that time or place. But the problems we see looking back, are not problems they necessarily saw, or would even recognize as problems. People who don't study history seriously, often fail to realize that hindsight is 20/20.
@Davemanz
@Davemanz 8 жыл бұрын
Hard for me to believe you "study history seriously" if you're using "revisionism" as a pejorative. Virtually all history since the 1960s is revisionist, and if you step into a history department telling them you want to write a dissertation that isn't revisionist they'll laugh you out of the damn building.
@EggShen905
@EggShen905 8 жыл бұрын
David Bliss You're being semantic. If by revisionism you mean checking the previous beliefs and understandings about history with newer facts or discoveries, then sure. But that's been going on since we've *had* historical study; much longer than the 60s. In fact it could be said that *is* history. That's basically a non-point. But in the more specific sense, with a meaning beyond simply "being revised", it's not true that "most history" since the 60s has been revisionist. Some leftist historians with axes to grind against religious institutions or the "dominant white male social construct" are revisionist, as are some reactionary right-wing historians in their blind defenses of those same things. But just because much of the field of historical study is poisoned by agenda-driven bullshit, doesn't mean that's where we should let it stay. I teach history for a living. "Revisionist" is definitely a pejorative for serious, dedicated historians, who are interested in finding the truth. It's people who think history *needs* to be revised to be worthwhile, or to fit a modern, progressive, or theological narrative, that are the problem. Once something is factually known, all that's left to argue over is motivation and perspective. The first is ultimately unknowable; the second is entirely subjective to the historian. Studying motivation is important work, but it's often presented by historians with philosophical "skin in the game" to be more definitive than it actually is. And perspective can be useful (and is unavoidable in any event), but it's often overemphasized by historians who would rather have their own beliefs justified, than have the facts speak for themselves. These two abuses, coupled with the powerful desire to have certainty about things which can't be certified (without mind-reading or time machines, anyway), is what makes revisionism a pejorative.

The other issue that historians are now having with Pocahontas is how much of a role she actually played with the whole relationship between England and the Native Americans. John Smith had a rep for exaggerating the truth, and historians are questioning whether or not Smith and Pocahontas actually did all the things he claimed they did.
@EggShen905
@EggShen905 8 жыл бұрын
Alicia Day Smith was . . . I don't want to say "liar" for certain, but yeah, it sure seems like he was lying about a lot of things. Or if we're going to be charitable, his memory got significantly worse as he got older. My best guess from the evidence is that Pocahontas was significant at first only in the English/Native relations with her own tribe, but later became kind of a symbol of "how things ought to be" for the English as she served as a kind of ambassador for all native peoples in the English public eye. Once she became more popular with the English people, Smith started embellishing, to kind of ride her coat tails. But so as not to be guilty of hypocrisy or misrepresentation: this is just a theory. I'm not an expert on this issue; just passingly familiar. Still, I'm familiar enough to know Kim's theory is a modernist redesign to fit a very specific narrative. Also known as "wishful thinking".

With the risk of being called a sexist, i would like to express my disliking of Kim. It is a shame that phrases such as ''I take offence at...'' and dumb remarks are now present in Movie Fights. It's hard to understand how an awesome open-minded show, with episodes such as the Drunk movie fights, the all-female movie fights or appearances of Max Landis and Kevin Smith, also boasts appearances of Kim's kind. She is an example of BAD feminism. Feel free to ''take offence'' at that.

+Alex Jameson It's easy to derail any argument into politics and 'win' using racial cards or whatever, but this is not why we watch Movie Fights. Wins don't matter at all, it's all about the process, and Kim simply sucks at it, constantly falling back on 'this is an outrage' position as opposed to making actual points with substance. Minions one was borderline idiotic - basically everything she said could also be applied to many classic animation comedy shorts that also have zero messages for kids and are just 100% humor and jokes, like Buggs Bunny, Tom and Jerry, Roadrunner, etc. Not that the Minions are good, it's just that she didn't even begin to argue what's bad about them specifically.

Alienating people because you want to remain a homophobic misogynistic bigot is an absolute joke. Being PC is progression, not hindrance. You find more ways to include people by being PC because everyone remains equal. Being PC shouldn't be kept out of anywhere.

+Fredrik Håkansson mmmmmmm ok that's a bit dumb. Tbh I'm fine with female superheroes that are based on male superheroes and vice versa but I hate when they just have the same name. At least change it slightly, like Spider-Man/Spider-Woman. Perhaps the worst case of this happening is Jane Foster becoming Thor. I'm down for her being able to pick up the hammer and "wells the power of Thor", but she isn't Thor, so she shouldn't have Thor's name, especially when you consider the fact that Thor is his birth name. It's if Miles Morales calling himself Peter Parker when he became Spider-Man. Wow that was a rant, pardon me.

This wasn't entertaining at all. I look to the comments to see who agrees, but apparently it's all about how Kim is a feminist and forcing an agenda or such. I can't speak on that, beyond the "i am offended by her being called a female wolverine" since, you know, X-23 is quite literally him all gender bendered. That being said, I couldn't even make it to the 20minute mark. If this happens to be seen by the Screen Junkies crew, you should try to keep at least one regular on the panel. It's Movie *Fights*, this seemed more like a dull debate. No emotion or passion in the arguments. It felt more like everyone was just reading off a page.

+Joseph Demjanick Um...maybe because they're playing it off as her just being "girl wolverine" when basically she has 15 years of backstory, and interesting character drama that has worked hard to distinguish her from Wolverine is pretty much every way except for them sharing a power set and her backstory being them literally trying to MGS2 her into Wolverine. Her picking up the mantle of Wolverine to more or less pull a Grayson becoming Batman, doesn't really have anything to do with it. She's annoyed with their attitude about it; which I can kind of see. Mostly because she picked up the mantle of her mentor, the bloody internet that obviously doesn't know better are acting like she's some new character that is just a gender swap, you know despite that whole 15 years of stories I mentioned earlier.

LupineShadowOmega this isn't comic book movie fights (even though that seems to be the way it is going). In trying to make sense of why this video of Movie Fights is more disliked than almost all others, I come to the very basic conclusion that it's about Kim. Admittedly, Kim was never one of my favorite fighters, but she didn't get under my skin either. In this video, she might've actually done so. And it was early. Simply Jermaine referring to X-23 as the "female wolverine" despite it being in the question's title, and X-23 has the same powers as Wolverine as well as actually being a clone of Logan. Kim responds with a very authoritative "I take offense to..." position on Jermaine's quote. I agree with Stephen Fry who said that "I'm offended" is the most useless phrase in the English language. In essence, it's just whining. Instead of responding with a constructive argument beginning "In my opinion" or "I disagree with..." because where as those set up a counter argument, "I'm offended by" is essentially just stating that your whining about MY opinion or in some cases facts. I also think people were further irked by her when Andy caved to her Pocahontas pitch on the basis of "if you disagree with me, then you're a jerk/bigot" argument at the end. Samm pitched a very fun and interesting movie, whereas Kim went on a shame rant to further her social justice pet issue. Admittedly, she's right. The Disney Pocahontas movie was a bad movie, not to even mention a terribly historically inaccurate movie. Pocahontas' story isn't one of conquering racism and ignorance. Her story is one of pedophilia, slavery, and the beginnings of a mass genocide. Kim even admitted that no one would want to see her movie as it would make everyone feel sad, disgusted, and ashamed. But this is my major issue with most self-identified social justice warriors (AKA the PC police), their issues they tackle are always one of zero reward, only punishment. The end goal isn't to create a more harmonious society, they may claim this, but it really is about shaming and censoring language and ideas that THEY deem to be incorrect. Merely having a different point of view is equitable to racism, sexism, and bigotry. Let's just call it what it is, if you're a straight, white man....you're the devil. And if you don't acknowledge that fact that you are the devil and you need to dedicate your life towards allying yourself with the betterment of "under-privileged groups", despite the fact that in doing so you're essentially creating a divisive state and every social movement in the past has been to reach a less divisive state, the current one we're in is about censorship of ideas and language and shaming straight, white men. So when Andy caved to Kim's pitch, it came off (at least to me) incredibly fearful of the backlash of PC culture or in this case Kim. Because in her mind, her pitch was righteous and anyone who would attempt to say otherwise or ignore her message is a bigot/jerk. Which she more or less said after Andy chose Samm's pitch. Which still sounds like a much better movie. When will people learn that trying to make people feel guilty for the actions of the past, not committed by you, but by the ancestors of your ancestors is not the key to a more harmonious society. I've said my peace. I don't dislike Kim in the slightest, I was trying to make sense as to why this video is more disliked than other Movie Fights videos in the past. My conclusion, most people don't like the PC culture that they feel bombarded with in almost all forms of media these days.

@johnnelson3312

Touchstone. Right. The question is what Disney movie should get a darker reboot. None of those movies are Disney movies. The animated film is Disney's, and if it's a reboot, it's going to have Disney's name on it, because it's their property. Disney won't be attached to the movie she pitched.
@shraka
@shraka 8 жыл бұрын
John Nelson Question didn't explicitly state that Disney had to even be involved - just that it had to be a Disney franchise. You're putting constraints on the answers that aren't strictly stated in the question. You might think they're implied but *shrug* that's just your opinion.
@shraka

John Nelson The question said it had to be a Disney movie - it didn't say Disney had to be the ones who rebooted it. Besides, again, Touchstone. Doesn't have to have Disney's name attached. And honestly, who cares? Why take business and marketing decisions into account when arguing about the best idea for a reboot? Seems kinda sad.

Why do Minions "need a voice"? Since when do movies need to deliver some kind of political message? Kim doesn't understand that what she thinks people "should" do and not do, is irrelevant to what people WANT to do. She thinks she knows better than everyone else and how they chose to spend their money. That said, I think Minions are silly and annoying, but that's why I didn't spend money to see the movie, hence I didn't personally support it. But others did, and I respect their decision to do whatever they want.

+Vladimir Makarov A trailer is not meant to be an indicator of if the movie will be good or bad. It is meant to drive hype for a movie and give movie goers a feeling of what the movie is about. So if somebody watches a trailer and decides, "I don't think I'm going to like this movie so I'm not going to go see it", then that is their right as a consumer to do so. It's not right to tell somebody to go see a movie anyway because "it deserves a chance".
@ApplesAngels
@ApplesAngels 8 жыл бұрын
+Vladimir Makarov I actually liked the video SJ made about addressing the Ghostbusters hate. I agree the sheer amount of hate it's getting is unwarranted. I know there are people out there who get angry over almost nothing. The thing about when Dan said "every movie deserves a chance" can be taken one of two ways. First, if he meant you shouldn't completely dismiss a movie based off the trailers alone without looking at what critics or audiences who have seen it are saying about it, then he has a point. The second way he could have meant it is you should pay and see the movie regardless if you think it will be good or not, then I disagree. Having somebody tell the everyday person to pay and see a movie they don't want to see (I believe) is wrong. Let people vote with their wallets is all I'm saying.
