sadge, no mention of cagliostro. Super unique combination of snowball zoning using her traps. Give her a try if you like setplay shenanigans and buttons that are insanely difficult to whiff punish.

I'm pretty sure the first top ranked replay I randomly watched had a Cag. She just shoves the opponent into the corner and puts a trap in the air, gets them under it and if they hit it, just immediately starts refreshing the seal on top of them in the air, juggling them in place like eight times while Cagliostro is just jumping up and down once a second spamming j236L. I've been playing her ever since.

@@zacharyalan4977 she is insanely fun lmao. trap shenanigans are why i play her too, whenever i get a combo involving a trap i feel like my brain expanded so much.

Really helpful! I am a COMPLETE noob at fighting games and just have shallowly played others. I have never gotten the hang at them and figured out what I like b/c I tend to notice that fighting game rosters are small compared to say like LoL so i've struggled to stay connected. I hope I can find my main here!

I play mostly guilty gear strive which is great but after playing granblue I never realized how much I appreciate a clean background and no wall breaks. Guilty gear feels so overly busy and granblue feels more relaxing to me (just visually). Don't get me wrong both great but really liking granblue right now

Honestly I played Kat in the first game and am still playing her in Rising right now. It really does feel a little weird that gran is supposed to be the "Ryu" of the game in terms of story of being the protagonist like the Granblue story but in terms of gameplay Kat is more defensive like Ryu with the fireball then Gran who is more Ken. Other than that I do want to play more such Charlotta as did bit in the past game but also Siegfried and Anila. As they feel pretty similar to play like Kat and also Anila for that SNK representation lol

Out of curiosity, why is it "weird" that the main character of one game is different than the main character for another. I feel like the only "important" thing for a "standard" character is that they're easy to pick up for new comers who might jump right into the story. It's like saying it's weird that even though Sol/Ky are fairly shoto like, that they aren't like Ryu. I'm not trying ot argue, I just want to know where the mind's at. Do you generally expect protags to feel the same? Or did something else give you a preconceived notion that Gran was supposed to be Ryu like.

for the grappler section i would like to describe Ladiva and Vaseraga as 'proactive' and 'reactive' respectively, Ladiva wants to be up in your face and constantly make you guess, while Vaseraga wants to get the his superarmour up at any time and then get into the loop of reacting to your moves (jumping, dashing, etc.). of course you can play vaseraga in a more proactive way where he is donning his armour and going straight towards you

Soriz is the most striaghtforward, but he gets so many free + frames. I think that people just compare him to other rushdown characters like Seox and Lance... and there he might fall a bit short as he can't skip neutral, and lacks a reversal, though he trades it for damage.

Think when it comes to getting the most out of this game Cagliostro's the way to go. So many tricks, depth and setups to explore.. so many ways to mess people up - it's infinite fun! Closest thing to a sandbox character in this fairly homogenous game.
