Speaking as an American, I unfortunately have to say I'm not surprised a club like Villa would struggle under Randy Lerner. Anyone who follows the NFL and has seen how much of a joke the Cleveland Browns have been would tell you Lerner is far from the best sports owner out there.

28/10/2020: Aston Villa sit 3rd in the Premier League, only 1 point from first, where Everton are. AVFC survived relegation by only one point last season, drawing to West Ham and Arsenal beating Watford, Norwich went down before the rest and Bournemouth won, but went down despite winning to Everton. Liverpool won the Premier League trophy for the first time in 30 years. This season, Everton are 1st, Liverpool 2nd, tying 13 points with Everton, AVFC 3, with 12 points. WBA and Leeds come to the PL, along with Fulham. Leeds are 6th, WBA are 17th and Fulham, 20th. WBA have won 0 games, drawn 2, lost 4. Fuham won 0 games, drawn 1, lost 5. Leeds won 3 games, drawn 1, lost 2. There is a small possibility Aston Villa could be the second Leicester and win the PL.

I'm from Sweden, my grandpa of age 79 supports Wolverhampton, my dad supports west Bromwich and my uncle supports Aston villa, I have no idea why but every time they play each other we go to a sports bar that shows them! some of the greatest memories growing up. will miss Aston Villa a lot :)

Some of these comments genuinely make me feel ill. Fair enough some people may hate us, but as a football fan, you have to be equally as disgusted at the way we are being run, I know for one I was shocked at the way our rivals, Birmingham were run during the Carson yeung days, and felt genuinely sorry for them, however, all the 14 year olds taking the piss obviously don't remember 6/7 years ago, we were in the last 32 of the UEFA cup, beating teams like ajax at home, contending for champions league places and 2 cup finals in a season, this is what I spent my childhood watching. 'You spent £52m in the summer and blame the owner' no, we spent £8 million I believe out of lerners pocket, the rest was benteke money and other money off selling assets. Whatever you think about the villa, you have to be disgusted about what's happened at this club, regardless of on the pitch performances, which are shocking at best, and look behind the scenes at the shambolic 'business modern football' take at one of England's biggest and oldest clubs. That's my say anyway

I'm a Sunderland fan and go to all home games and a majority of away games and I think it is a shame to see teams like us, villa and even Newcastle who have such great history get relegated... Sunderland are also a club who have been in the scrap for relegation about 3-4 years on the trot now and we, a very long time ago, were one of the best teams in the country and in 1973, we won the F. A. Cup as a division three team against division one Leeds in the final and it turned out to be one of the most defining moments in sunderlands and the F.A. Cup's history.

+PSV 040 No they haven't. They won the European Cup, a completely different tournament which just happens to have the same shaped Trophy. They were in the 2nd division 5 years before it (1977) and back in the 2nd division 5 years later (1987).

i remember my club, racing club in the 2014 season ending in the bottom of the table with 11 points, watching every game and already feeling like we can do nothing, having that feeling of already losing when the game starts is something i never want to feel again and this is what aston villa is having right now. but these shit seasons and bad moments is what makes a real fan. i can say i've seen my club having their worst ever season and i can also say i've seen them having the best home record in latin america. it sucks when you can do nothing about your team being so bad. i wish you the best aston villa

So gutted to see one of the iconic clubs of english football going down, but to be fair this was bound to happen ,the way the club was getting stuck in relegation fight in latter years,selling best players, bad recruitments ,manager's in and out. Just hope Villa doesn't "disappear" for years in the lower leagues as it happened with some historic teams, as a neutral, hope you get back were you belong (Premiership Football)

You see what some kids are saying is that they see Villa as a relegation fighting which have been for the past 4-5 years, But what they don't see is how much of a traditional English club we are and that we are only 1 of 5 English team to win the European Cup. We are 5th in the all time English honours list with 24 trophies but history cannot be something to chat about now. We are in the future where we have been terrible for the past 4 years and could have got Champions League the years we finished 6th three times on the trot. But we will go down now and hopefully come back stronger.

I am a Man City fan from Finland, and I know what you think. Gloryhunter etc...I have been City fan since I got Premier League broadcast in 2003 (I was 8year-old), and loved the fact that City was a club of Manchester heart. I still love Man City with the same amount than 2005 or 2006 but Sometimes I miss the fact that we did not have the money. Watching a club like Villa go down is sad, but important for their future I reckon. Club with great history and a symphatic base...Anyways absolutely great video to learn more about them, since not being British It is hard to learn so deeply about clubs like Villa. All good to them and hope they come back even stronger!

It's currently late December 2020. We have just beat Crystal Palace 3-0 in an empty ground which places us 6th in the premier league. Last season we stayed up because of a broken VAR decision which sore Nyland carry the ball past our line, if it weren't for that we would have been back in the championship. Dean smith has done well for Villa and we owe our thanks to him for such a great start to the season, I'm not sure how we'll fair in the January transfer window but I'd like to think that we're doing well. UTV let's make it to the top flight this season.

As a Bolton fan, this sounds so much like the position we were in nearly 4 years ago. Manager leaving because club board couldn't fulfil ambitions. Paying for years of mistakes. I hope Villa get out of this because it really isn't a pleasant situation to be in.

the sad thing is that is that before this season, villa seemed back on the up after a good finish to the last season. Had great talents in Delph and Benteke and good youth players like Grealish coming through. When they launched their new kit, it was almost like Villa were hyping up their best season in years and I could see why. Then everything after that went wrong, they sold their two best players to bigger clubs because of release clauses, their younger players lost all their potential all of a sudden and the team looked dead.

+rtyuu999 I went to villa park last season, best away day I've had. the fans were great, even at 3-0 down. Villa a few seasons ago were a team, like Stoke, who you didn't want to play because they may not of had quality, but they had passion flowing through them. I just don't see that anymore, it's such a shame that England's 3rd or 4th greatest club is slowing slipping away.

I worked there for a while it's my club and our club Part of the old guard I was there when Bent scored against man city when we beat Cardiff in the cup and many more I was there all the time. I breathed and lived villa not just when the games were played conferences. Business meeting. xmas parties. Council meetings. Holte pub (favorite) Take That. On tour. .... Player awards.......twice Alsorts I still remember the heart felt shout from that fan who screamed out to Martin O'Neil "Are you staying" From the top balcony of the holte suite They were difficult times we'd had downs many downs. Bad Transfers.managers. Financial investigations.alsorts But a glimmer of hope is shinning once more. form is temporary class is permanent. The lion was sleeping. Its starting to rise. Let's hear it roar together. Villa Till I Die..... Part of the pride.

At the end of this nightmare season the best thing to do would be to have a mass clearout of the mistake prone players like sanchez,bacuna ,hutton, lescott, richards etc and then the coaching staff + most of all the scouts who have done a lousy job of recommending shit players who dont care for AVFC. Try to fill the team with local lads for next season in the championship and at least they will try and show some passion unlike the overpaid, couldnt give a toss arseholes that have made it into history as Villas worst ever team.

I could not put into words how much this club means to me. I cried watching this knowing that odds are we will go down and as an American it will be significantly harder to watch the games when Villa are in the Championship. I just want the local supporters to realize that just because Lerner doesn't understand what this club stands for doesn't mean that all Americans don't understand. Everyone where i'm from always talks about Madrid or Arsenal and how they always win and how crazy i am but Villa has grown my love for this beautiful game. Before i die i would want to be to go to a game and be in the Holte End at least one time. VTID!

I'm a Yeovil town fan and have supported them forever from being in the championship a few years ago to now being a few points away from relegation in league 2 is very depressing as I also have a season ticket and have done for over 5 years but things are looking up with our new manager Darren way
