Odin is one of the most interesting gods in Norse myth.

The real Odin was basically like Gandalf from lord of the rings. Hell, Gandalf was actually based on Odin himself

A lot of esoteric symbolism in Norse mythology, specifically with Odin. He gave up his eye (the single eye) for wisdom. He hung himself from a tree to gain knowledge. Self-sacrifice and facing one's demons (literally or figuratively) is something humans all have to do. Also a lot of parallels to other religions as well. Fascinating stuff.

Much of what we know about him was recorded by a Christian monk Snori Sturlosson who wrote the 'Norse' beliefs and stories down in order to try to convert pagans and some of what he wrote is not true at all. He made it up.
