Great review again Wade. Exciting to think the Ninja could be the start of a new design trend.

yes, I feel is something that could be explored more a high-volume creeker with a 1/4 slice tail there's a few out there RMX THP and even the Waka Puff Steeze are a few that come to mind this seems to be really well rounded.

I believe Tren labelled it best as a "Performance Creeker". Great design by Jan Choutka and so stoked to see it getting the attention it deserves.

I got the paddle one of these last month, and Wade explains exactly what it felt like to paddle in a way that I was unable to explain it to anyone, because it's such an interesting boat to paddle that I wasn't sure how I needed to go about describing it lol

Thanks for taking the Ninja for a whip! Stoked you enjoyed it (I feel like this boat was designed for me) and finally a ZET for bigger paddlers! There is an update in the seat in the works to make it sit a bit lower- it would be an option for all Zet creek boats! We have another container full-o-Ninja landing in October with a few left on the East Coast in stock.

Just received my ninja yesterday and I'm super-satisfied! Though indeed- getting it completely vertical is not an easy task at all, not that I've mastered that skill well but still. Pivot-turning feels good definitely. Doing different rolls felt easy, boat just does what I want. Though black color seems to be custom now so had to pay a bit extra for that and I must admit I figured the black plastic looks bit more nice. Also the logos are bit different than in the pictures of black ninja in the internet- mine had green coloring added and the handlebars are also differently colored. But that's a minor issue :) I'd say the prettiest black-colored boat is Waka Goat, due to matte coloring. Smooth surface with black color is not something what I'd go for in the future :P Agree totally with the cockpit edge narrow gap, would have liked to have it a bit wider as well. Also, I'm 189cm and there's plenty of room for taller people under the hull :D

Nice I’ve been waiting to hear your thoughts on it and glad you pointed out the ability to pivot turn! The only thing I’ve found this boat doesn’t excel in is shallow mank but anything with proper flow it’s very good. Great review Wade

Got to demo one this week. A surprisingly orthodox boat given the odd shape, but is really predictable and stable. The tail is a nice smooth pivot, and I can get one vert on a moderate eddy line (and I am not heavy). Nice moulding, with some interesting moulding lines down the chines and across the hull 6" back from the bow, suggesting a pretty interesting (possibly multi part )tool, but they are an electric induction moulds not gas heated like pretty much everyone else. The assembly was average (not overly impressed, (would have got yelled at if I had been that rough), the back deck was softer than I was comfortable with, the bulkhead is terrible and doesn't adjust properly for short people, the backrest is the worst I have tried, and the thigh braces and low deck will be too aggressive if you're a big person. Definitely worth a demo if you're keen on a Steeze, same type of boat, with very advanced and precise moulding technology behind it, you will either cope with the outfitting or you won't, was a deal breaker for me. Can tell it started out as a C1 design and would be a great conversion.

I believe this design started as a C-1 called the Hotwing. I wonder what all changed. I bet the width behind the hips would be good for a C-1.

Yes I was following along with the process when it started it was very steeze with a more tail slice

I'm a Zet fan-boy. Surely anyone who goes creeking, the single most important thing to consider is how tough the boat is? As you say, Zet plastic is the toughest, so is the outfitting. So surely everyone should put a Zet at the top of their shopping list and only go for another make if nothing in the Zet range suits you. I've never understood the attraction to Waka and Jackson, not exactly renowed for toughness. Sure they might paddle great but surely that should be a secondary consideration?
@WadeHarrison

@@WadeHarrison We should have a container here late September, got a demo booked in for this and the Machete, but I think at the moment the Machete has the inside running. See how they feel when they get here. Thanks for the great run throughs, it's really nice to get a good idea of the shapes, super helpful.

Great OWR as always there Wade! If I were to replace my Puffy Steeze with this Ninja, would I notice much difference in capabilities/performance? I’m not a stern staller/squirter nor rock splatter.
@WadeHarrison

Yes the steeze and this paddle very differently the steeze has a very aggressive rail this one is a hybrid soft bow with a pivot type tail and way less bow rocker and width

Hard to know who this boat is aimed at though no? All the good points of a creeker but not quite a halfslice? I mean, if you had your favorite halfslice back at the get on for a second run would you really choose this over the half slice? Not sure about the looks either, I like it from some angles but the stern kinda looks like a Wavehopper and a Dagger FX had a baby😁 Great review though, thanks man!
@WadeHarrison
@WadeHarrison Жыл бұрын
agree it's going to fall in that weird category for most paddlers and if I had to pinpoint who would benefit from this it's like a very fast down river hi-tuned creeker that will add pivots and splats but still run the complex class 5 with ease its definitely more of a creeker than a halfslice some will love this and others will probably not like that tail on a dedicated creeker.

So...how would this boat compare to a LL Sweet Ride?
@WadeHarrison
@WadeHarrison Жыл бұрын
Close but the LL sweet ride is more of a true Down river HalfSlice and this is more in line with a hi tuned creeker/race with a small amount of HalfSlice abilities built in
@FORTRANWW
@FORTRANWW Жыл бұрын
This seems Steeze-adjacent, no? They're both possible to stern squirt, both seem like a half slice and a creeker had a bastard love child. Zet plastic all day over Waka plastic though.
@WadeHarrison
@WadeHarrison Жыл бұрын
yes its more in line with the puff steeze and on the waka plastic the new batch has been amazing
@vonehrenpreis
@vonehrenpreis Жыл бұрын
Could someone please explain me why it's so important not to call this a half-slice? Everyone seems to get super-agitated about that topic :D I mean yeah, it has some creeking characteristics but what are the characteristics that a half-slice has and this hasn't? :P There is a slice-like stern- isn't there? :D
@WadeHarrison
@WadeHarrison Жыл бұрын
Getting it vertically needs to be in the perfect spot and timing and it’s extremely difficult to keep it vertical I feel to be a true HalfSlice you want a tail that can jut throw down at will even in flatwater this is more of a hi-tuned creeker with a pivotable tail a 1/4 slice 😉
