Basically anything bigger than 500cc will mop the floor with 90%of the cars on the road. To me naked bikes hit the sweet spot: torque lower in the revs, less back pain and cheaper insurance and all the fun of sport bikes.My duke 690 is basically a tractor a low rpm and you can very easily exceed the speed limit without realising it. No need to go 200mph to pass other cars, you only need to go faster than them;)

So, why should we get a liter bike? 400cc is enough. My underbone 150cc motorcycle can do 135kph top speed and that's all stock. HAHAHA! This is a personal preference, like driving a sports car or muscle car. I've ridden everything from a 550 to a 1500. It really depends on where and how you ride. I don't ride highway so I prefer a middle weight, naked inline 4. A highway guy will need a 1200 to 1500 cc v-twin, or Goldwing. Don't cancel a class of motorcycles because you don't see it's use. You don't even need a 600 for the street if the rationale is that most people can't get peak performance out of the liter bike. Most people won't get it out of the 600 either. Hell, most riders couldn't push a Ninja 250 to 100% on the street.
@ThermicLight

There is a more usual difference between those who ride a 600cc and 1000cc. In that the former are less inclined to make lame justifications as if the power is necessary. Rather they already know it's overkill. People on 1000cc however more typically have a certain ego about why it's required. As if the extra torque and power is necessary. All in all I don't judge what someone rides but when they start capping is when it starts getting ridiculous. Be so much easier if people were just honest about why they buy it and it doesn't have to be for practical reasons.

The reason why Royal Enfield is currently moving so many motorcycles is this very reason. The 650 cc 48 hp and 52 nm is capable enough to do 90 mph which is the maximum you could do legally in America and so many other countries(Germany is an exception), but for the most part a bike that can do 100mph without stressing too much is a Perfect motorcycle. Agreed. But the power of a 1000 can be a lot of fun to some. That’s the point of motorcycling in the first place. 600’s are often faster through the really twisty bits, though. No motorcycle is safe. Just practice and choose your battles (if any) wisely. Sorry for your loss.

I know no one gives a shit, but you don’t have to ride a 1000cc bike to its full potential in order to get full enjoyment out of it. Taming the beast is a thrill in itself no matter what level you ride at. Opening it up when you are comfortable doing so is a fuckin thrill and a half. And lastly, it’s nice to know you always have more and more bike as you progress.
