I came across someone doing this to my ute a little while ago. Poor bugger, while he was getting up when he noticed I saw him, he tripped and fell. Hitting his face on the road 4 times. I made sure he was safe before popping air back into my tires and heading on my merry way.

I would feel "threatened" by someone vandalising my property & would feel the need to "defend" myself & my property from such threats

The danger with the slow air release is you may not notice then jump on the freeway at 110 with slowly deflating tyres! a recipe for disaster.

ok free market solution.. I just googled lockable valve cap and yes you can get anti theft valve caps. pretty easy fix here, if they need a pamphlet on how to unscrew a valve cap then they wont be able to work out a lockable one.

Being that most of us carry compressors on board, an air hose in the appropriate orriface, will mean more balloons floating around Melbourne.

While this would be a minor inconvenince for me as I carry a compressor and have a tyre pressure monitor, as others have mentioned I will be forced to sit there idling, wasting fuel while I reinflate them, so the pollution was made worse by their actions. Also, with the safety issue, they put themselves at risk in a carpark or roadside squatting down by the wheels, then the owner is also put at risk in the same position (assuming the tyre has deflated enough to be noticed before driving). This is a childish and irresposible approach against a target that pales in comparison to general industry. There's no rational justification for it.

This has been happening in the UK for months. They targeted 30 plus cars in one night in one city. Claim to be doing it to save lives but one of the cars targeted belonged to a front line nurse who could not get to hospital to save lives. Only at night as they wouldn't dare try it in day time 🤬

How do they know if the large 4x4 is used for agricultural purposes or not. So they let down tyres which in turn means more fuel used to go get air or to run the air compressor. So by them doing this is actually causing more emissions. If it was me and someone was touching my car then I would act like most.

These idiots went along and slashed the tires on a dozen cars on street in Sydney last week. If I catch anyone messing with my property they will be crawling away.

If you catch someone doing this. Ideal situation would either video/photo them yourself or someone else. Confront them tell them they are vandalizing and you are claiming citizens arrest. Make sure there is someone else tha can hear you say this and then detain them until the police arrive.

letting down 4wd tyres would be counter productive, id have to start my car leave it idling where it is least economical and run my compressor to re inflate my tyres. interestingly though if someone let down the tyres on say a small SUV lets be honest most or a lot of those "Types" of drivers wouldn't notice having flat tyres turned a corner lost control and took out a family, do these idiots know they are then up for multiple man slaughter charges (sorry lets be PC cos that's who were dealing with People slaughter charges)

Seems like such actions would come with legal repercussions. You are probably going to 'love' this but I got a reply from the eSaftey Commissioner which in part says and I quote: "The actions suggested at the webpage is malicious damage not a criminal offence here in Australia" "it was not actionable under the Online Safety Act 2021." So the relevant authorities obviosly don't give a crap about public safety. Some facts you should have relayed. All transportation in Australia only accounts for 17.6% of our carbon emissions (NGGI 2020 report). Just because I drive a 4wd does not mean I don't care about the environment or that I am not carbon positive. I drive a car design to last up to 50 years that is nearly 10 times less impact than the modern disposable vehicles. Perhaps if every one focused on the other 82.4% of the problem (fossil fuels electricity 33.6%; manufacturing, mining, residential and commercial fuel use 20.4%; agriculture 14.6%; fugitive emissions 10.0%; industrial processes 6.2%; waste 2.7%) things would get fixed a lot quicker.

They really have no fkn clue. Not only is their response to cars they see as unsafe to make them more unsafe, but they're targeting a group of people that they can't actually define. They won't target tradies, so no utes, regardless the profession, but then the people who have modded cars pobably don't use them as daily-drivers (fuel and mud tyres are fkn expensive!) and also have air compressors, so kinda pointless for the risk of getting your head kicked in, because if the owner as taken the time to mod the car, they're invested in it. So what- target soft roaders and mall crawlers? Only problem there is that they're generally the more fuel efficient of the lot as they're built to handle like a car, run highway tyres, are more aero-dynamic, carry less weight and don't have shit bolted to the roof. This will just alienate people, for little to no net effect, while putting the participants' lives at risk.

Diesel Rail Locomotives burn a lot more fuel than 4x4's, someone should tell these greenies to go to a train yard at night and deflate Locomotive wheels.
