Hate to say it, but I think the ND1 is still far and away the best design. The shape and size of the new linesman patch is a little too much to my eves. For the ND4 , bring back the original " design ", but maybe update with the new structural changes to make the boot lighter and more comfortable.

Yes. That original patch was more with the flow of the boot, the ones since are more perpendicular to the flow of the boot and it is definitely less pleasing to the eye. I am looking at the ND3 right now and would love to pull the trigger, but its not exactly what I would want and it is 100% the linesman patch. I love the waxed leather

They don't want to build it again because it's too difficult to make. All they did on this one is take their "tactical" boot, add the side patch and get another big sale push for something that they are basically already making. I don't blame them.. but they are trying to go the easier road on this one, rather than making something exceptional. But I agree: out of all of these, the ND1 is very obviously the best looking.. maybe only second to the double patch that they never made.

Damn, was so excited to see these. Unfortunately, and I fully realize that this is just one man's position, they went the wrong direction from the ND1. From construction to aesthetics, the choices are almost exactly opposite to the choices I would have made. I'm sure they'll still be wildly successful and sell out, but these feel like an attempt to make jump boots for hipsters, not an "ND" boot.

Really not into this design. The fully black sole and midsole surprisingly contrast with the brown leathers and it isn’t pleasing. The counter is too sharp compared to the smooth flowing lines of the lace to toe. Also the logger upper doesn’t match with the tactical sole at all. The ND1 should be the only one.

I disagree the ND1 should be a regular offering, but agree that Nicks is getting shitty on the finishing and customer service. I own 4 pairs. My last pair, the two boots fit totally different, despite being the same size and last I typically wear. Also, the pair before that, they just flat out sent me the wrong leather hoping I wouldn't notice. They need to stop doing so many podcasts and focus their attention on quality control and reducing their ridiculous lead times.
@jlg395
@jlg395 Жыл бұрын
@@0f556 Amen. The stitching on my Renegades looks like a drunk guy did it, every sock liner has completely delaminated, the heel stack has become delaminated on one of my Renegades, and my Overlanders had a nail sticking up out of the sole that gave me temporary nerve damage in my big toe. When I called Nick's to discuss the issue, the guy told me to "Just hammer it back down." How I was supposed to reach the inside toe portion of my boot with a hammer is beyond me, so finally I called again and this time a woman told me to ship them back (they were quickly fixed). Still, though, it's just getting ridiculous, and I do believe their obsession with having a social media presence and going viral is whats affecting the final product. Of course we won't see any of these issues on a channel like Rose Anvil, because you'd best believe that Nick's puts their best people on any and all boots that'll be featured on KZfaq.
@0f556
@0f556 Жыл бұрын
@@jlg395 Sucks to hear about that nail. I agree about their obsession with having a social media presence. It doesn't help that Nicks is pretty much the PNW darling of all boot influencers, including Rose Anvil, and gets a pass on most issues because of it. If you listen to some of Nicks employees on their podcast, it's pretty clear that they don't really care all that much about finishing since "they're boots" and they're supposed to be worn. I wish they took more pride in the finishing, regardless of whether or not the boots are going to blue collar workers or social media influencers.

Just picked up a pair of Franks Boot company "commanders". Frank was in charge of manufacturing at Nicks before they were bought out. They are actually in the old Nicks boots shop space, great group of people. Their boots are at the very least on par with Nicks and maybe just a bit better due to Nicks seemingly going for a bit more of a quantity over quality approach when they changed hands. Certainly worth checking out if you are in the market for a good PNW style boot.

Based on my experience of nick's, Thursday and redwing, I think you made at least three spectacular choices. 1. Leather insole. Alternatives are sweaty and uncomfortable to me. 2. No lining in the vamp. Unnecessary if you're not building a winter boot, and you're not. 2.5 rubber midsole should give you the chock absorption of a non-heritage boot while maintaining breathability. 3. Feet are not pointy. Munson-shape FTW!!! P.S: NICK'S quality per cost is amazing.

So just an idea that I thought you might find interesting: a modified lineman patch with a couple of forward lace or attachment points paired with an elongated false tongue that would protect the top of the boot from extra wear and tear from a motorcycle shifter. This way, as the leather wears out, it would be on an easily removable/replaceable piece of leather, and it wouldn't loop under the sole where it would get walked on like a lot of toe cap protectors I've seen.

An idea for your videos: " What do shoe pads do to leather insoles, and how different the need is for flat-footed people in shoes." My all time biggest problem with shoes and boots is that I am flat footed. The heels really help with my bone angle but the real problem is the width and the insole. Flat footed people need insoles that support the arch of the bottom of our feet. I use a pair of shoe pads especially made for flat-footed people in all my shoes and boots, but not my leather dress shoes because their leather insole is not removeable. I would really like to try out the ND3 but this is such a big concern to me that I can't risk it until it is properly addressed. Love the design, can't wait for what you will do with the ND4.

I SO wish it weren't limited edition, as I'm not financially ready now for $600 boots, but I really hope they continue the leather insole on the 365 series. I've been back and forth on a purchase of Nick's tactical, butI tthought that they'd strayed too far from the notorious comfort of their thick, multilayered leather sole. Honestly, that has been my only real negative thought about the 365 build, and you totally gave it back the credibility Nick's boots has EARNED. Around 10:30 the boot on the left reminds me of a paratrooper boot I bought from the base exhange in 2000's the other than the lineman patch, but man I loved those boots. I think they were Corcoran's? Wore them in my uniform until regulation changes happened and they weren't in regs anymore, I never had a better boot after.

I hope you make more ND3s. I was late to the sale and missed out. The ND3 looks and features are exactly what I’m looking for.

I would also buy the ND1 but i would rather it had a one piece second layer , instead of separate toe cap and lineman side patches make a single wingtip piece sewn over the main upper and add a steel toe cap between the two layers and a thinner 1mm top grain lining on the inside of the vamp.

Sometimes it is best to not redesign the wheel , or fix something that is not broke , but I guess you are not doing it for us, you are doing it for you .

You mentioned cheap knives. I am in agreement. I actually use my pocketknives. I lose them as well. I buy several of one particular knife and put them away so I have spares. Why buy an expensive one if you will end up losing it? As for the boots? Very nice. I hope you enjoy them. I wear boots because I need to for my daily work. I wear them out pretty quickly. I go strictly for comfort. If not working, I like sneakers for comfort in my at home down time. I REALLY liked your choice of 360 stitched welted boot. Yes, it makes sense to make it easy to resole. I say it is the best boot you have come up with.
