@7:00 this is only currently working out for those who have chosen to quit because the government is providing the safety net of stimulus, eviction moratoriums, increased unemployment benefits etc. the big corporations dont actually need these workers or atleast not in the capacity they currently employ them. look at amazon and the opening of their amazon go stores. these corporations could automate 90% of the jobs within the next 5-10 years if they wanted to

It also occurs to me as he was talking about making sure you have enough cushion to quit. That's what the stimulus did for people still working. Between that and the eviction moratorium there was suddenly less pressure on the lower classes. Having enough money to not worry about tomorrow's dinner helps people think more clearly. Think Marlow's hierarchy of needs. I think in that clarity, the oppressed underclass has awoken.

Worked through the entire pandemic as a “essential worker” and at first it seemed great. I had a sense of purpose because I was helping keep products moving to people who needed them. Fast forward to now, any pay raise that was given to us was just temporary, I’m back at minimum wage but my workload never diminished. I’ve gained $0.30 in raises over the past three years of working at my job and feel like too little butter scraped over too much bread (props if you get the reference) I just want a break 😩 Might be time to move on.

I started working grocery right after covid because so many people quit & I hated my other job. It was great at first but then after a about 6 months we somehow got stuck doing all three shifts worth of work. Any new people we hire quit within 3 weeks at most. We got a raise to $15/hr.,but it still doesn’t even pay basic necessities. So exhausting and ridiculous. I used to enjoy my job before it became pressure everyday to do everyone’s job for them & when other shifts do work they mess it up so it takes us more time to fix it and even worse ours is the only shift that’s actually timed on how long we take to finish.

And we did it at the cost of exploiting the nature.We are in a mad rush to earn money to buy all these unnecessary things. i've worked remote the last 11 years, but 2019 to the present, my job turned into a sweatshop. i worked til 2, 3, 4, even 5 in the morning. some days, straight through. while people were told to focus on their health, i was running on 2 hours of sleep a night, gaining weight and feeling terrible. job - didn't care. they had the approach that i needed them more than they needed me. i was so scared - what if i go somewhere else and it's worse? i quit a month ago and they told me my leaving wasn't impactful. most people didn't say goodbye. all that time i didn't focus on my family or myself, for a job that truly didn't care. i feel so stupid for giving them so much of my time, so much of my life. in my exit interview they spoke of the Great Resignation as a phenomenon related to the pandemic, and something they just needed to get through. i explained that people don't want to be treated like garbage, but they just didn't see it. i hope no one makes the same mistake i did. these places just aren't worth it.

Yea its up to the person some ppl would want to work full time cause of the health care and benefits. However going full time at some jobs can be stressful cause the environment of ppl you work with that could be toxic. Sadly some jobs or hobbies you do to make money dont offer health care or benefits. Some will grind full time too cause of a good retirement when they reach a certain age but some will not take that chance cause theres no guarantee. If the person might live very long until that age some will just do the things. They love doing that makes them happy until the day the person passes away. Now days many ppl are investing there money and getting into the stock market or crypto.

For example, if Amazon grows 30% in a year, all non-executives should have their wages bumped up by 30% for the year. In my last position, I never set boundaries so the company assumed I was always available. What a difference a few years of experience does. If you can, my advice to new, corporate workers is to set your expectations as a worker when you start the job. I work a salaried job where the mindset is, "be available if it is needed" but I set the expectation that I go on walks/runs at 4 PM every day. I do not answer calls or messages during the duration of that time and it has conditioned my department so well that when I was leaving the office the other day my coworker asked if I was going to run or walk that day. I also close my computer and turn off notifications at 6PM. Workplace fires will have to wait until the morning when I sign back in which is usually 6 or 7 AM.

Haven’t watch the entire video but I left my career back in April this year. I had been with this large retailer for over five years, and I just had enough. The stress inability to have work like balance, the micro managing and being talked down to by district managers. Before I quit my job I was offered a promotion for an executive position, thought about it for a couple days and realized I didn’t event want the job I had. This will be the first Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years I’ll actually enjoy stress free with my family. I now have my own online business. When I got downsized for committing the unforgivable crime of being over 45, I was told that, "Our young, dynamic managers don't want someone beneath them with gray hair." This might be partially true. But more than likely, they don't want someone with MY experience having any influence on the younger workers. So, to you younger workers, I have ONE piece of advice to offer. Never, EVER buy into the lie that "hard work pays off." It might pay off, OR NOT, if you are working for yourself. There are no guarantees that your hard work will amount to ANYTHING. But when you have a boss, hard work rarely pays off. It's a big lie known as "The Meritocracy." It's often used against the poor, as well as non-whites and women. The idea is, "Well, if you were only smarter, better educated, more professional, [insert excuse here], then you'd be doing better." It's used to rip off workers. And they will gaslight you as they oscillate between "work harder" and "work smarter." Because it's ALWAYS one OR the other that gets used as an excuse to why your pay hasn't gone up, while your boss got a 100% "performance bonus." It sounds like the young workforce, in general, has a handle on this, which is good. Ping-pong your way by moving from company to company is really smart, and I wish I had thought of doing that, instead of being that dedicated, reliable sucker. With employment at-will, NO COMPANY is dediated to you. Meanwhile, they demand dedication from you, as if it's a one-way street. You young workers are the future of the country, and the world is watching. I believe in you.

I have been working full time for all of my young adult life, I'm turning 27 soon, since I was 19 I have had to work hard to survive. I am so close to quitting my job and I am beyond excited. I will finally get to enjoy my young life for the first time. I've never traveled, I've never had ME time or a down moment in my life and I am finally ready to take the plunge after a lot of saving. I want to work on my art, start a small business selling it, maybe be a contract artist for companies, I don't even know yet but I know I don't want to do a 9-5 anymore. I want to do something that I actually want to do even if that means working 12+ hours a day, at least I will be working for myself. And that's way more exciting to me than working 8 hours for someone else.

@warehawk
@warehawk 2 жыл бұрын
@@fowoppy6336 I actually just put in my 2 weeks today, and already feel a weight lifted off my shoulders! I feel that, Man. My biggest advice is to start saving every penny you can. You hear it all the time, but it's totally true how life changing it is. Take just a month where you cut out every expense that isn't required whether that's going out every weekend, buying fast food, whatever it is, once you get into that mindset of becoming a money hoarder, and it will happen lol, you'll start to feel like a new person. The human brain is funny like that where it only take a small amount of time for something to become a habit, and when you save like crazy that will open up so many possibilities to you because you'll has more financial freedom, and you'll begin telling yourself that if you can do something as hard as saving, what's stopping you from doing anything else? Take more time off, ask for reduced hours, take a demotion, whatever you need to do to be able to start putting all of your focus on yourself. Don't let the job take over your life, that's how you get complacent, that's when days turn into weeks, weeks into years, and suddenly you feel like you don't even know what life is anymore. That's sort of how I felt. Work, money, it'll always be there. But life isn't about being miserable everyday and imo complacency is the same as being miserable. My friend is actually in the same situation as you. He's worked fast food a long time, it's all he knows now because the pay is "good". He knows what he wants but he doesn't know if he's able to do it and so what's happened is now he's been in the same place in life since high school, getting kicked around at work, literally has a sore beaten body of a 50 year old man at 26, and developed a horrible sleeping disorder because all his brain knows is working doubles, go to sleep, wake up and do it all over again. It's really depressing and I am trying to help him get past that. I'm rooting for you! I hope you are able to find that stepping stone, It'll come you just have to take the right steps and put yourself first. If you ever need to talk or anything let me know! I am always happy to be that person to listen or give advice. Life is too short to be a slave to the what ifs.

Work for another 6~12 months whilst heavily saving. Move to get cheaper rent and live very frugally. Then when you save up a nest egg quit your job and write full time. You might generate some income slowly but not enough to live off, but this will offset the decline of your nest egg. Then ideally you will be making enough money from your new hustle by the time your nest egg begins to run out. The only other alternative to this strategy is to work on your side hustle after your day job, but for most people this is way too taxing and they don’t put in the effort required to succeed.

What makes this story hilarious is my boss was so pissed and taken aback that he ended up giving me $20 to prove a point about commitment or something? All while cursing me out and telling me that "my generation isn't going to amount to anything because none of you keep your word" blah blah blah. So, after a quick 8 months at Amazon (yes the stories are true) I said "fuck it, this sucks and is literally killing me" and went back to school. Working more hours at home is different from the office though. At least for me, when wfh, I take 5 minutes break every 30mins or so, just do some quick workout, go to the washroom, drink some water etc. Plus I save on the 2.5hr total travel time I need to go to the office each day, overall, wft is still lesser hours to me at least

I have worked several weeks remote here and there to help watch the kids. I'm the ONLY employee than knows how to do what I do, literally no one wants my job, and I'm producing record sales because of what I do. I actually enjoy the job, but hate where I live. I suggested taking a 32% paycut to work remote. My boss said "no, there is value in face to face". I guess there can be, but 32% more?!? I don't think so. He could afford to give everyone a raise and still keep me. Literally my co-workers just call me, text me, or send me a Microsoft teams message. Very little face to face even at the office. He's a fool for not taking my offer.

If you haven't already, maybe you could see if he'd be willing to let you try it for a certain time frame and see how your work product looks after that amount of time. If it's good, then he could let you keep working from home at your original pay rate. If it's bad, then say you would be willing to come back to the office.
@laverdadbuscador
@laverdadbuscador 2 жыл бұрын
@@KevinSmith-gu7fb I did and it was a no go. The guy ignorantly believes face to face matters. I'm a manager also. I manage drivers. So I see them maybe 1min a day. I'm exceptional at what I do and as a freight broker I worked 100% remote without issue. Even here I worked for weeks at a time and my KPI was higher. Drivers didn't mind. My CSR's didn't mind either. Everything ran just as smooth if not smoother because I could put more time in. WFH isn't about working less. It's about balancing my work duties with home duties so when I do have free time, it's true free time NOT chore time or traffic commute time. The guy is a damn fool. Between increased sales and trimmed waste into about 1 million in savings a year. I've also been the only department to stay staffed 100% and when we did lose someone I was able to hire someone within a week. I don't fuck around. I'm NOT motivated by money at all. Take the 32% paycut (my choice) and give it to people who have to work in the office. Let me work from home because I've proven it can be done. He even said "what about meetings? Are we really supposed to video chat with you every time?" I laughed and said "that or just put me on speaker phone.....you act as if you've never heard of technology before man". Hes like 5yrs younger than me too. A really chill guy, he doesn't micromanage me and let's me run my department by myself without question. He's maybe 30yrs old. I have a hard time understanding how a guy his age can not understand how much this would benefit him and by keeping me in the office is hindering certain aspects. Why? Because I'm not going to work 14hr days at an office....not happening. I'll work 8 and that's it. I'm tired of the grind. I work hard in that 8 and I go home. Life is too short to deal with people's ignorance. However I'll gladly work 14hrs or even more if it means I can do so at home. That's how important it is to me. Fuck money. For real.

One of the driving forces of toxic workplace culture is how employees never require better standards of respect and boundaries. The ONLY requirement I see people focus on is getting a higher wage. And I can tell it's been happening a long time because employers have a tendency to throw higher wages at people in exchange for tolerating abusive or just generally rough work conditions. I'm hoping this shift is positive but tbh I'm concerned it will also create worse standards because both managers and employees seem to be ignorant about what their needs are, and what would actually create a better work environment. Self employment, thanks to the internet, may be the best route. That's my plan.

I’ve lived off my savings thus far, which is actually kind of “odd” because it actually caused me to be anxious to use the money I was used to saving every week. But I set a monthly budget and it’s been fine. I did take a big loss in one of my brokerage accounts last year when a few of my stocks were shorted to oblivion, but I held tight and all but one went back up. So as of now I haven’t had an income but I enjoy writing and have written 4 books that I’m slowly putting some finishing touches on to have published. Agreed with you, I believe that everything and everyone should just do both school and work online and not return back to places in real life because we can relax, work on our own schedule and time while still getting paid. Plus for many of us we save on money such as gas, and rent because we dont have to drive back and fourth to work and plus we dont have to worry about traveling and paying high sky rocketing rent. Like for example, I live in midwest and was doing work online from home in ( While job was located in California) and dont even have to pay high price rent in CA. When here in midwest can live for free and dont have to worry about rent or bills. This is a blessing. Plus not trying to sound anti-social or weird or anything... but it kind of sucks having to deal with and put up with people in the workforce and at school because everyone is cliquey, gossip, cut-throat, 2faced, backstabbing and dont want to deal with all the drama and BS. However, hiding behind a computer, dont have to worry about socializing or interacting with people and can avoid people easy just hiding behind PC.
