Geometry Dash Creator School

Күн бұрын

Most Geometry Dash players will fail at their goals, whether that means getting creator points, gaining fame, or making good GD levels. But you don’t have to fall into that trap.
There are three major mistakes that skilled creators like Culuc and Bli manage to avoid; you should look out for them if you want to succeed, and it’s crucial that you learn what they are and how to fix them. Not only will you make good GD levels if you can apply this, but you’ll likely have better motivation and a good mindset too.

Here are some real tips from a creator - accept 15 collabs and make 1 block for each (liu method) - don’t even try and do art (hard and look bad) - do NOT send progress or reply to hosts - have extremely high standards (you will never make anything good ) Serious advice ^

There's no way you're even being a serious person anymore, just saying "you will never make anything good" to people isn't gonna help in the slightest. If this is some sick joke that you've been utilizing and expanding on for years, it's not funny, and it was never funny. I've seen you only ever looking down on people's work no matter how good it is and praising only yourself too many times to be true. Genuinely, no matter how good your "work" is you're just toxic and everyone in this community hates you. For all I care even if you were CuLuC, Bli, Leonardo Da Vinci, or anyone like that and created masterpiece after masterpiece, the stuff you do is still inexcusable. You always tell people to "do better" or "delete everything" or "quit creating" each and every time. Just because you have 10 creator points, and you're in a couple of collabs, does NOT mean that you're the best creator in the world. I could sit here and watch you complain over the dumbest stuff possible, and if you look at my comment for 2 seconds and say "I ain't readin allat" or something, you're just proving my point that you have no remorse and no care for anyone but yourself and your ego the size of a planet. Quit telling people to learn to be better creators, and take the chance yourself to learn and be a better human, Ego.

This is a REALLY great video, all the points and ideas you've shared are valuable and will definitely help a lot of aspiring creators, myself included. Awesome content! My biggest problem as a 7 year GD creator has always been the bane of all - Overambition. I like to think that I'm pretty creative, and I had been having insanely cool ideas for Geometry Dash levels for *YEARS.* Things so grand and epic that simply imagining them gave me awe. But whenever 13 year old me would grab his phone to start making a level, I'd realize _''Oh shit. I don't even know how a spawn trigger works!''_ And I'd immediately scrap whatever I was working on. The second biggest problem I've always faced, which stems from the same problem of having too many great ideas far beyond your creating cappability, was an overbearing amount of ongoing projects. Even right now I have 5-6 projects that I'm either working on or _would_ like to work on, like a train-themed heist platformer, an animated short story, or a level completely built out of 1.0 objects. I had to intentionally scrap a lot of projects just to help myself focus on the highest priority ones *only.* And the third, lesser problem that _ALSO_ stems form this problem of good imagination, has been what I like to call the *''overcompletion effect.''* When I picture a level in my head, I always imagine it complete, with all the cool decorations, majestic setpieces, fun little details and so on, which would lead me to start decorating the level before finishing the darn layout, which would cause the triggerwork and Z-layers to get EXTREMELY messy and hard to manage, which would eventually lead to burnout on a specific project. Out of the three problems you listed in this video, even if these definitely _ARE_ extremely important, none of them have ever applied to me. I have always had my vision very concrete and set in stone _(Heck, I'd even draw sketches and concepts of how my GD levels might have looked like even BEFORE I ever downloaded the full version that had the editor),_ I would always approach making the level step-by-step and I'd constantly mess around and practice creating. Yet I still always failed and most my projects would get scrapped 1% to 10% into their completion. Because they were always so gosh darn grandiose! The fact that I would frequently lose progress thanks to a miryad of atrocious account problems didn't help my case either... And even with all these issues I've faced over the course of nearly 7 years, taken into consideration, I've still stuck on with this game and I am still trying. Recently, I participated in a small 2.1 platformer minigame contest hosted by YoReid, which was an extremely fun and helpful creating process for me. It helped me develop my own personal building style, helped me get much better at trigger and layer management and finally taught me the Layout culture _(Making a rough gameplay of a project before decorating it)_ that I had always been lacking. For those who wish to get better at creating and having a fun environment to work in, I would really advice trying your hands at small unofficial creator contests hosted by lesser known creators. It is a very fun, unique and interesting creating experience, and on top of that, it usually has a small, less toxic and more dedicated community than the bigger stuff, thus there's a very helpful environment in case you need feedback as well.

Man I feel you with the quest of trying to make a perfect level. I have had the mindset for the past two years (basically my entire creating career) of trying to make a perfect level that pleased everybody and was at the same level as dream flower or behold. And that quest for perfectionism has made me progress very fast for the little amount of time i put in the game(~100h per year) but it has burned me out for a long time, made building unfun and it has made me deny a lot of colabs from cool people that that i will never be able to know them better since in me eyes they were people worse than me so they didn't help me for the quest of making a perfect level/getting better. So I have been trying to change my mindset to just making cool levels once I get a cool idea. But im still subconsciously trying to push for the idea of making a level with the same quality as Well rested or change of scene someday even though is a surrealistic goal and is actively shooting me in the foot. Also unrelated I think you nailed the pace with this video, I can't put my finger on what it is but the quality of this video feels higher quality than the others. Gj!

I dont quite agree with setting a time goal for the level you are working on. Unless you have a very good idea of when you should be done with the level, then you can set time goals, and even then do not be specific. Making a broad assumption like "im gonna try getting this done in june" is better than "im gonna have this finished by june 20th". It's more of a phycological thing, but i find it helps more.

On the other hand, setting deadlines and trying to adhere to them can make it much easier to finish a product - you won’t have all the time in the world, so you learn to prioritize things and use that time more efficiently. If you need to, you can always change your deadlines later.
@Eagleleadsmc
@Eagleleadsmc 3 ай бұрын
@@GDCreatorSchool Im not fond of the idea of switching deadlines until you get a date that matches your productivity. Its not a linear graph, some days you may not be able to make much progress. And if you fail to meet a deadline, it can really take a hit on you. Its different when you are under time pressure and when you set yourself unnecessary pressure. Ive been working on a level for 3 months now and i have been under constant pressure, fearing that someone might release a level that has the same concept as mine, thus rendering mine pointless. Every day is a deadline. It's not fun and, unless you are experienced in dealing with these sort of things, seemingly the easiest way out is to give up entirely.
@kiritama48
@kiritama48 3 ай бұрын
@@GDCreatorSchool I think setting deadlines isn't a good idea. If you can't for whatever reason fullfill your timelimit, you could end up rushing parts, which can ruin your level and as such your whole work.

Ngl I feel like this video is super narrow minded and can be misleading to some. You don't always need a plan, vision, and experience to be a successful creator, only whichever approach works for you. Sure if you want to build like Komatic and similar creators then I'm sure this is valid but his approach isn't universal. I've seen so many different approaches to creating. Like just look at someone like Wulzy who just throws a bunch of stuff at a wall and sees what sticks. I just hope new creators won't feel the need to do all this extra work if they don't want to as it could be intimidating to some

6:40 The main thing I realised is that after uploading my second level and spending a couple hours in different mod rating twitch streams I realised there was a very small chance that I would actually get a level rate. This made me a little sad knowing that all my time spent was basically for nothing, however negative emotions are a great motivator, and so I used that to make more levels knowing they wouldn't get rated so that getting rate wasn't the main goal of making the level, because it shouldn't be, its about making a level you are proud of, or at least being experimental with design or effect ideas.

This is exactly what I say to everybody starting. It was one of my problems too like I hated on levels geting rated just because my didn’t. For the first thing, take pictures or videos of your work. It’s like with bodybuilding; you wont see instant improvement on the daily, but if you look at yourself a few months or years later there will be differences. Not sure what your exact situation is but I’d suggest asking for feedback and identifying why things seem boring to you. From there you should hopefully have enough info to try fixing the problem.

Try getting a mod which autosaves, or an even better tip which applies to all projects in general, get into the habit of saving every 5-10 mins or so
