@@shirinsyed maybe you should explain the cost of your schooling before giving a so called inspirational speech. I'll say it all day. I wish I lived in the UK. You're video came up and you're forgetting to disclose alot of details. My kids are watching and taking inspiration while I have to explain to them that the only way their going to get into college is through scholarships because I cants afford a school bill that is more than my annual income! The typical student loans and at a four year University is 45,000....for a BA. I make 32,000 annually. My bad..I forgot that the university stopped free tuition, however a agree costs atleast in 2017 cost almost $14,000usd. Which would have been equivalent to the costs of a degree in the 70's.

@@buzybeeb4101 wrong. She lived in a country that invests in their people. Universities are free unless you're parents ARE rich than they only have to pay up to a certain amount. Look it up. Many advance countries invest in the common folk education because it's adds to the GDP, which determines how valuable a country is. Her 'rich' parents I can guarantee are paying the same cost that would cost US citizens in the 70's...so 14k TOPS? Vs US 45,000 with financial aid? Tell me I'm wrong and I'll shut up.

Do me one favor? If you're in the business of helping people...don't do it! Do a search of US doctors leaving their profession because their patients couldn't afford to be seen Spoiler....they tried to find out why their patients were paying so much and nobody internally could answer. Alot of doctors here in the US have left the medical racketeering business.funny thing is my fiance no insurance costs less because there is no insurance company to negotiate every single thing that happens. Do do it if you're in the business of helping and curing people. The healthcare here sucks if you don't have the money for decent insurance. I don't know the benefits of doctors...but when someone gets annual raise the same year the health insurance increases and you go home with an extra .20 cents after the deduction....you mind as well just punch them in the face because that's how much that means to me and thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions of Americans feel.

@@burtmaclin553 you can find at least...links I've been sent personally...four doctors whom left and became professors because the hospital's they worked for didn't question why insurance companies raped their customers. Look it up, probably more. Insurance is a scam and the US is one of the last so called first world countries that doesn't have a universal health care system in place. Do your research before you comment again about a scam you obviously don't know anything about. I have first hand knowledge on the matter and it is disgusting.

Planning for retirement, or even financial freedom, is a marathon and not a race, as the saying goes. Breaking your financial independence goals into small pieces can help you stay on track while making the process a little more manageable and hopefully a little less stressful. Even if you are starting small, the important thing is to start. Investing is important. Everyone needs it so you don't go bankrupt when you stop working

Get the degree in the UK much cheaper than the USA, partially subsidised by the government, then ditch the NHS and reap the salary rewards in the USA without the huge debts of your American colleagues. Crafty. I would probably do the same to be fair, although the USMLEs look very tough.

Random seeing this video 3 years after it was originally posted (and especially since anything related to medical field has never been of interest to me on youtube) still great video and even though its a least a few years late, well to the American family!

I'm a second year medical student from Tunisia and now I'm considering this haha it's been on the back of my mind but I always pushed it off because I can't imagine how the whole journey would be like ! Thanks for the class, will definitely give it a look. By the way, which residency have you matched to ? 😍

Heyy I am thinking of going to the US to study Physician assistant. My parents put this idea in my head because of a guy they introduced to me. The problem is that once you do PA outside the UK then you can work with it in the UK. Vice versa with UK PA degree can't work in the US. So I don't know if I am willing to move my whole life there just for someone I met 3 months ago. Right now I am doing biomedical science in my second year so I'll need to make up my mind in less than a year. Ya Allah help me. Please make du'a for me.

It has to do with healthcare here. We don't have free healthcare so doctors don't just get paid by taxes and normal wages and such.

What we call undergrad and medical school in the US is an 8 year program--4 years each. THen we follow with residency for 3-5 years and fellowship for 1-3 additional years depending on specialty. In the UK, the BS and medical school are usually combined into one 6 year program. Then continued training equivalent to residency and fellowship is 5-10 years depending on specialty. These come out almost the same if you consider the years of training post high school....they are just called different things and have slightly different structures. In my own example, training was a total of 15 years post high school to become a sub-specialist...4 years undergrad, 4 years med school, 4 years residency, 3 years fellowship. The same level of training in the UK (where I have lived) would be 15-16 years.
