It's difficult to know how much doctors are really paid. The information, although publicly available is hidden online. I often get asked HOW MUCH MONEY DO DOCTORS EARN and who are the HIGHEST PAID DOCTORS In The UK?- I was really surprised to learn about the highest paid doctors in the UK and about the doctors earning over £1,000,000 a year. WHO are these doctors, what SPECIALTIES are they in and HOW do they earn so much more!?
Today, I'm investigating these highest paid doctors - join me taking a deep dive into the finances of medics. We'll start by looking at the way that doctors are paid, via the NHS and Private Healthcare System and why Private Healthcare is more lucrative. We then explain the basic pay of junior doctors, and how this is misleading - and then move on to research that shows the real earnings of the highest paid GPs and Consultants in the UK and the specialties that are paying these big bucks!
I honestly was so surprised by these results and to find out about these numbers, some things to bear in mind are that these figures are dated, and are likely to be even higher today. If you missed the video where I break down my payslip, check it out here: • HOW MUCH MONEY I MAKE ...

@sudeepbrar6206

@@ps0116 Tbh I didn't understand your question. Please can you frame it better. To whatever I have understood my preliminary reply would be : doing good , precise beautiful eye surgery is a passion of mine and the satisfaction one gets out of doing beautiful surgery. No amount of money can give that . Money is only a number, but yes it should be high for the skill that surgeons possess and the stress we take to do even a single case

Sudeep Brar , I see. I was trying to ask whether you, and other surgeons, would have gone through the training, if the salary was the same as someone working in McDonalds. I hear a lot of people suggesting you would, but I always disagreed.

@@ps0116 I don’t think anyone would do that at a young age, maybe after 60 someone might not look at the renumeration part. The intangible part about doing beautiful surgery and patient gratitude still remains as my previous comment. No other profession provides that I feel.

It's also to important to note professional outgoings for both NHS and private doctors. As the salary goes up, the fees go up. This is especially true in the private sector where there are administration fees, staffing, rooms rental, and the big one - indemnity. Also, surgical training is full of bottle necks and compulsory exams and courses so it would be interesting to look at the average time taken from medical school to consultant level between different specialties!

As bad as it sounds, I don't believe UK doctors are paid enough for the amount of work they do. For example the US, Australia, New Zealand and Canada have averages far higher and nurses in the NHS have salaries which aren't too far off to junior doctors. This is probably because the UK is more socialist than the countries mentioned above.

@@davidlai6798 yes but would you reveal your salary publicly? I think transparency on all fronts could have avoided some of what lead up to the industrial action, since the public do side with doctors more often than not. As long as there isn’t talk of complete privatisation like in America then I think the public would agree with doctors/nurses getting a fair pay rise, since it does also favour the public.

I’ve also argued that a better metric is an hourly rate and over the course of a career, in which case I think you’d find General Practice comes way ahead…. You’ve reached CCT in just three years and work far fewer hours than hospital trainees for their extra training years and even into consultancy. Pound for pound, hour for hour, I think GP is a brilliant option! Thoughts? Has anyone done similar maths?

Trainees have their pay protected with increments ensured every year unlike non trainees working as Trust Grade/Clinical Fellows who are only hired for service and are treated like shit by everyone including trainee doctors. The BMA have confirmed this as well. Everytime you get a new job contract as a non trainee doctor working in service post, you are always put on the lowest pay scale.

You will not be given an interview even if you obtain all A levels with A stars if you fail the UCAT Test ( some uni don’t require UCAT) On top of that it will help if you did some charity or related volunteer work. that is only on the higher end, you have to look at a real distribution to see if that there truly is a discrepancy on the salary. Also only the basic salary should be considered, as per the video it seems that the extra salary benefits are due to individual doctors making sacrifices in order to earn the supplemented salary. Most businesses or industries have supplemental compensation for working our of business hours as well.
@Bringon-dw8dx
@Bringon-dw8dx 3 жыл бұрын
Likely because of the societal expectation for women to be primary care givers. Once you get to higher levels/child raising years the discrepancies start to add up. It’s hard to do those extra training sessions or extra on calls/night shifts when you have children to look after. Generally (only in my experience, can’t speak for everyone) a lot of female doctors have to rush home to pick up the kids and can’t commit to things that would increase their income as often like on calls because of child care issues
