20+ years with Adobe - left permanently and will never go back even if they make it free

Over 16 years with Adobe. I left and now have luminar Neo and Affinity.

I'm happy I ditched Adobe many years ago and switched to Affinity. For me, it can do like 95% of the things Adobe can, but much much cheaper and sometimes it's easier to navigate. I do agree that a Lightroom competitor should be added.

This was bound to happen anytime. I have been an Adobe user for almost 30 years. I got fed up with them. I switched to Affinity software. I’m soooo happy!

Adobe ACE user for 25 years, I'm moving over to Affinity, Capture One and Davinci the next month.

Class action is what we need.

When Adobe adopted the subscription model it was downhill from there. immediately their losses began and all their actions since then have been to stop the financial bleeding. The steps they have taken today, the hurdles to unsubscribe and penalties when you do, all spring from this initial error. People like to OWN things, it should be yours until you die. This is their initial error. Software makers take note. I should say, "corporate financial managers take note". .

If your being charged outrageous fees for terminating ($236 is what they wanted from me), don't just cancel. I beat them by doing this instead. Change your plan to something else. They will refund you for the rest of the month you paid for, but didn't use, (I was paying for the All Apps plan and they refunded me $35). They will charge you for the new plan (they charged me the $22 for changing to illustrator (no termination fee). Then just cancel that and get your money back (no termination fee, goodbye Adobe).

I taught Adobe's programs for many years, but I had enough when they switched to monthly/annual subscriptions. I switched to the Affinity programs and haven't looked back since.

I think the actual problem with the anaually paid subscription is not that you cannot leave it after a couple of months without paying the full price, the problem is that when you cancel it in advance, normally it should just run until the end of the year and end then. Instead Adobe removes access immediately and wants to have a cancellation fees.

This mass migration to Affinity may be just the boost they need to create additional apps. Serif (the makers of Affinity software) have been around a long time and had several different programs (WebPlus, PagePlus, PhotoPlus, DrawPlus, and MoviePlus) but of course could not get traction thanks to the power of Adobe. They took it down to the 3 programs they have now to meet the greatest audience need and created, for the first time, real competition for Adobe. Of course, with Adobe's head in the clouds, they assumed they were invincible and look what happened. Hopefully now we will see in the near future a Lightroom and Premier competitor as well thanks to greater support (if Canva doesn't screw this up).

Never got anything to do with Adobe and glad too.

A Lightroom and an After Effects alternative could be a dream for all of us!

I've been using Adobe for 30+ years and I'm done with them. The shop I work at will still use them but, for my personal use, I'm done. Canceled my sub.

Adobe Firefly's tag line is "SKIP THE PHOTOSHOOT." I don't see a corporate mantra being any clearer than that.

Glad I went to Affinity just after it came out. Yes there's a lot of things Adobe can do that AP can't but none of them are things that I've ever wanted or needed. AP is so much more powerful than Photoshop. Hoping someone sues Adobe for their latest terms update where they can do whatever they want with any of the work or files you create or upload. That's just a really terrible set of terms to have to agree to. Utterly disgusting behaviour by a behemoth of a company and about time they were taken down a peg or two.

Darktable works for me as a LR replacement. Took a minute to learn, but for FOSS it's very impressive.

All the darn "subscription" models should be observed very closely. Nowaday everyone wants to charge rent for using apps that need not to be used or consulted every month.... so, yo use them once every few months, you have to pay all the time.... opting out sometimes is not possible, they only give you a hiatus or else, loose your history....

customers always right.. we knew this subscription thing from start is going to hurt customers.. or worse.. scam them.

The irony of the government suing a company for misleading their customers is off the chart.

I’m confused. I’ve been with Affinity since 2017, and shoot In raw. What is so poor about developing raw images, I shoot nature not studio.

DXO PhotoLab is a fantastic raw editing software...just saying

I payed for a year upfront so when that’s done I’ll be moving on to affinity. As long as I can convert my film scans to photos like I can in Lightroom.

Been an Adobe user since 97'. I saw this coming in 2022 and traveled with a laptop to start learning Inkscape + Gimp + Krita + Blender just to see if a similar workflow was possible. It is. Other than deep level industry print process requirements, there is nothing I wasn't able to get done with this combo and TBH paying a one time fee for a solid RIP covered the remaining bases, something I already own. The frustrating side: learning curve. Process and hotkeys are different. The upside: on MULTIPLE OCCASIONS I found the other software tools to have more intuitive processes so now I'm thinking back to why Adobe broke what already worked several time just to include "re-fixing" is in later updates as a patch/version note. The future: all of these programs are available on Linux so now I can boot into a non-invasive environment with superior performance, memory management, and efficiency for work and back into a barebones Win64 environment for occasional gaming. I have no desire to continue unwillingly being a part of blatant AI meshes.

After 3 years of Affinity i'm used to not having a 'lightroom' but it's fine fot me.

There's also Capture One as possible Lightroom replacement (and Darktable as an open source alternative).

I use ACDSee. I also use Affinity, but ACDSee manages all my files and takes care of everything I need. File management is what lead me to it. You can buy a license or rent it.

what's posted as 19.99 is actually 25 or more. It's adobe. Adobe also switches payment charges without warning.

Music to my ears. After 30 yrs as a registered user and owner/updater of their legitimate software i am appalled at how they have treated us, quite how they haven’t already had several class action lawsuits filed against them already is a mystery.

I use capture one to round trip to affinity photo and it works flawlessly.

for me the hardest one to move from adobe is After Effects, no other software gets to the point where it's easy to make motion graphics without AE still, although most of my 3D motiongraphic thing I already moved it to Blender and it works better than AE (I know don't scream at me with C4D because I use it too).

I agree! I would love if Affinity came up with a Lightroom replacement. Having said that, I’m very happy with Capture One which I’ve been using as my raw developer and catalogue for the past 10 years. The problem with subscription plans for a raw developer is that if you use it as your catalog for all your photos you loose that if you unsubscribe! Your raw files will still be sitting on your hard drive of course, but you loose all your carefully crafted catalogs over it and all its adjustments with it as well. That is a huge drawback! So, think carefully when you decide to replace Lightroom with something else. I’m not saying that you should stick to Lightroom. No, I’m just saying you’ll do well to think through very carefully how you’re going to transfer over to a post-Lightroom life before committing. When it comes to actual handling and developing your raw files there exist at least a handful independent apps that all treat your raw files at least as well as Lightroom, and some of them even better. Every time I’ve tried my files in Lightroom it’s been a complete disappointment. Not being able to get anywhere near the results I get so easily in Capture One.

Does anyone know if Adobe has a deal with companies like Microsoft, Apple, Ford etc to not spy on them? I don't think they would accept being spied by another company.

I gave up on them a year ago. Wasn't worth the money, and the payment never ends.

So for me, the cancellation is bogus, but it's also why I won't invest in their All Apps platform and only the Photogrpahy plan (which mine is $10 a month). If for some reason I decide to leave Adobe I'll just let the subscription run out (but people also need to realize that the cancellation fee is based on your plan, so the more expensive plans would cost more to cancel, whereas the $10 Photography plan is maybe $20 charge, and also how long your subscription has until it runs out if you paid annually. Usually towards the end, the penalty is lower than if you cancel say one month in). People do need to read their EULAs as some of this stuff is covered in that (although exact amounts are not provided because it depends). But I've cancelled Adobe before since I had two Photography accounts but only needd one, I just let the second one run out and didn't renew it.

It time to leave Affinity is the way to go.

I dumped Adobe a long time ago.Never looked back.

So how about using your camera’s OEM software in place of LR? I find NX Studio brilliant, has all profile corrections specific to my camera plus just about everything else LR does, maybe more and better even.

This will end like when they switched to subscription only. Nothing will happen. A small group will walk away from Adobe and nothing will change.

I have been with Adobe Illustrator and then Photoshop from the very beginning but quit for good this week. I am done with Adobe and feel free! I like who I am with now Pixelmator Pro and it is much better than Photoshop. It always seemed like a left handed person designed PS from the beginning and cumbersome. After all of PS supposed updates all these years, it still lacks doing the basics well.

Affinity; you should start hiring, adobe engineers who's jobs are in danger...They have mortgages.

I think this is much ado about nothing. The Internet causes knee jerk reactions, only to see people coming back to whatever software is in the bullseye at the moment. Yeah, I don't like some of their policies, but they are the best game in town. (Adobe user since Photoshop 1.0.)

Only way for Adobe to get out of this is go back to own software!

No one can claim they didn't know Adobe terms - it was very easy to understand. You can try the software out for 14 days, then your trial is converted to a yearly plan and if you cancel, you owe 50% of the remaining full year subscription price.
