I have been riding over 65 years. I'm 80 now and decided to down size. I bought an old Fatboy for 5000.00 Stripped it down, no fenders, just a motor two wheels and straight pipes. Having a blast scaring old Ladys. Ride about 30 miles a day a little on the crazy side. Love it. What I'm I going to do die.

I remember when I got into motorcycles and thinking it would be a cheap hobby. Nothing is cheap when it comes to a Harley Davidson. Theyre the Mercedes Benz of motorcycles in terms of maintenance cost.

Hey there, Hope all is well. I am 66 this week , grew up in NEW YORK CITY ,AND FELT THE NEED TO TELL YOU ,how so right you are , and through the years if you haven't been watching ,and making moves like the ones you're making, you haven't learned much. You have learned plenty ,and things like this aren't going to hurt you at all. Holding things or trying too hurt you more in the end. You have realized what made you happy ,for the period of time you have had certain things. I have learned this from losing my wife after 31 years , which was the biggest lesson ,and not being selfish. She being 11 years older ,and coming from the mid west ,taught me what I needed to know in life ,which I learned after she was gone for a while. 3 years now. I think you made yourself happy ,knowing what you needed or what you wanted .It sounds like you are just fine . I just subscribed ,so maybe we'll talk again . TAKE CARE.

@@ROBERTMORAN-mv7eq Thank you for subscribing. My condolences for the loss of your wife Robert. I read your comment twice and felt the sincerity in your words. When you mention lessons learned with the loss of your wife it reminded me how I felt after losing my 22 yr. young daughter in 2007. Honestly as I mentioned in the video I have enjoyed 50 plus years riding. I've been considering selling these bike for almost a year for various reasons some of which I failed to say in the video. I'm a disabled veteran and for 40 years have disabling conditions that aren't getting better. Every morning I spend at least 1 hour using pain relief devices, ice packs, infa red heat pad and pain creams just to get moving. I can't exercise like I used to either, hardly at all. I'm in good shape otherwise but don't have endurance like I did even 5 years ago. I can go for 3, 4, 5 days at times almost non stop then I have to rest 1 or 2 days and do nothing. I'm fine with this decision. I had to do it in 2010, sell all my bikes when I was bed ridden for about 7 months from complications of a specific injection in my spine for that back injury - bulging discs with degenerative disc disease and a few years ago I developed Spinal Stenosis on top of all that. I was told I'd never ride again but made it back for one final hurrah in 2012. I had another 12 years of riding up to this year. My feet are riddled with arthritis that required some surgery in 2006. The last 2 to 3 years I've had to have injections in my hands for arthritis pain and trigger finger. Injections in my right shoulder as well - it's bone on bone. Degenerative discs in my neck with bone spurs. I cannot forget that with all these conditions I only have so much energy/ endurance. Some days more but lately more days less energy/endurance. I get lyme disease flare ups as well and fibromyalga flare ups. You didn't say this but the message is loud and clear - who am I kidding that I can continue riding these heavy bikes under these conditions AND as you stated I'm hurting myself. Thank you Robert, the heavens have spoken once again through you.

Had those big bikes. Started riding at 15. Old Norton 500 army bike back in 60s. Goldwing, Kawasaki Classic 1500, Suzuki Vstrom. Rode Harley's as a police officer. I like to ride. Now I'm old, calmed down and looking to ride slower and much more comfortable. Just got a used low mileage 2019 Suzuki Burgman 400. Still highway capable but suitable for me to ride those rural country roads and just enjoy.😊

I turned 65 three months ago. I have several motorcycles, including a couple of Harleys. I had to sell my dual purpose bike a few years ago, because the seat was just too high for me to get on and off of anymore. Plus it had tube type tires, and I have had a lot of flats with tube type tires. I knew I would not be able to fix a flat tire with tube type tires by myself out in the middle of nowhere, which is what that bike was for. To ride off road. I would be stranded. I am selling my 1997 Electra Glide Standard and my 1989 FXRS Low Rider. They are too big and heavy for me to push around and do tight turns in parking lots with anymore. I've almost dropped them several times. The writing is on the wall. I'm keeping my 2001 Sportster 883, because it has a low enough seat that I can get on and off ok, and it's light enough and narrow enough that I don't feel like I'm going to drop it. I may eventually convert it into a trike. My knee and hip joints are totally shot. I am limited to about 2 blocks walking distance, and have to use a cane. I have ridden around a million miles in my life, and I consider myself fortunate to have been able to do that. But nothing lasts forever. Changes have to be made. For now, a smaller bike and shorter rides. You just have to make things up as you go along, as your condition and situation changes. I noticed your Marines shirt. I am also a Marine veteran 1977-1981. Hang in there and do what you have to do to make your life as enjoyable as possible.

@@geraldscott4302 Semper Fi my brother. I totally understand the health issues. I didn't mention them in the video. If you don't mind, I'll list them however before that let me say I spend about 1 hour every morning using many pain relief devices so I can get moving. H wave, Ortho Cor devices, gel pack, infa red heat pad, soaking my feet ( service connected/arthritis ) stretches, pain creams and so on. I'm in good shape, exercise a bit, good genetics as far a fit goes, despite this however...... I'm a 3 time heart attack survivor. I have bulging discs, degenerative disc disease in my lower back with Spinal Stenosis. Requires injections periodically, Lidocaine patches & Acupuncture treatments. Degenerative disc disease with bone spurs in my neck. Arthritis in both feet, all joints arthritis that required some surgery in 2006. My right shoulder is bone on bone. Requires injections. The past 2 years, both hands require injections, arthritis. I have Lyme disease with flare-ups. I have fibromyalga with flare ups. The VA discovered a tumor in my brain in 2017. Not sure if it's related to contaminated water Camp Lejeune. For me a Sportster is too top heavy so I might -might keep the Ultra. As you know there's a lot of thought that goes into this decision so I'm not taking it lightly. Also the VA has cut back on community care. The nearest VA medical centers for me are all an hour away. I appreciate you sharing your situation. Thank you so much. Think it through and think it through again. Last year I sold a 1996 Dyna Low Rider Convertible. All original with 10,000. I wish I didn't because that was easy to handle and Low seat position. I had no choice. Because of the economy and on a fixed income I couldn't afford healthy food. This time I'm not going to be impulsive because I have time to think it over. Take care Gerald.

I'm almost 70. Have 2 bikes. Feeling the same. Reality takes over fantasy. When your possessions start to possess you, perhaps it's time for a rethink. Check out Suzuki DR650. Cheap, reliable, easy to work on. Great vid!.

Your statement, when your possessions start to possess you is 100% accurate! I'm weighing the next bike, no pun intended on its weight. The plan is to put a hitch on my van and I already have a motorcycle carrier. If I'm camping and want to go to the camp store or drive to a nearby store I want something that is easy to get on and off the carrier. Thank you, I appreciate you.

ps: In the other comment here the one about keeping one of those Harleys bc there's a lady out there that wants to ride again, I went back twice to look at my reply. I replied immediately, " I'm weighing " and that's no fluke. It's my subconscious reminding me not only about possessions possessing us - the other matter of concern is the weight of these vehicles. Can I handle the weight, yes. Is it as easy to take it off the stand while sitting on it? No ! The weight is a significant factor because struggling to get off the stand at our age and conditions isn't how I want to start a ride.

@@seH2i I get that too. I don't ride long tours like I used to, so don't really need the heavy bike. I wont get away with riding really fast forever, so don't really need the fast bike. I got out of "the life style" decades ago due to family responsibilities. Plus I realized that I was "flying too close to the sun" for long enough & would come crashing down if I didn't make a change. That's when reality out weighs fantasy. It can be hard to admit that those days are gone. There's no point in getting older if you don't get any wiser.

AARP.. friends and family rates etc. I just cannot condone a lifetime rider ever giving up their ride. @@Ravalock269 Thank you. I envision getting back on some trails too. I sold the 250 Dual Purpose 'chinese' bike bc after 3 years it started to have starting issues. I like those Yamahas you have. Around here in coal country Pennsylvania in the 60's and 70's riding dirt bikes or mini bikes was a right of passage. My first bike around 1971 was a Chibi mini bike with a 2 stroke Briggs and Stratton engine, 3 speed. About 2 years later I got a Harley Rapido 125cc 2 stroke. Thanks for being a gentleman about it. I know you get it.

After you change the exhaust, seat, bump the horsepower, suspension, handle bars, radio, etc. Harley makes a really good motorcycle. Lol. What I’ve found is I can enjoy a $3,000 motorcycle as much as a $40,000 one. I know this because I have both. A StreetGlide and a Burgman 650. The halfabusa is easy to ride, fun, cheap, and capable of highway speeds. I can also putter around my wife’s hometown in the Philippines on a 125cc scooter and have a good time doing that.
