Might there be solvants to help loosen the glue ? The solvents can be unpleasant stuff, i know . You'd soak the boots first for a week or two and maybe air them several days before dismantling em . Co2 is a good solvent in liquid phase . Easy to remember that you can have it liquid at -20 c° and 20 bar pressure . A bar is almost one atmosphere ( 14•7psi) . Of course the co2 source is your readily available dry ice. - from memory 28 bar is required at -10 ° C and 15 bar at -30° . Needs a suitable pressure vessel , I've said enough .

I used to be the guy who bought his tennis shoes out of the discount rack, I couldn't understand paying all that money for a pair of shoes. Then I bought a pair of Redwing truhicker safety toe boots for commercial driving since I would be in and out of warehouses. even though those are considered cheap boots, they are still better then any other tennis shoe I have ever worn, and they have lasted longer. I know understand that to get good foot wear, you just have to pay for them. I hope to buy a even better pair when I wear these out (the soles are not replaceable, they are also made in china IIRC) I bought these in 2016 and looking at them, I think I have a couple more years in them, I don't think I have ever had a pair of Nike or the like last me more then half a year.

I have a pair of the steel toe contenders. I LOVE these boots. As my first lair of Nick's boots. I'm hooked. Can't wait to order a 2nd pair. And even one of their casual/dress boots.

They would last me maybe 3 years tops. I try to keep them clean but every boot I've owned has become a nasty athletes foot factory by then. Honestly at 3 years I would have got my money's worth out of them for sure.

The petroleum products are hard on the soft vibram soles, but the actual boot is holding up like a champ. With good quality wool socks (darn tuff, point6), my boots still have that warm comforting smell of fine leather after a hard day in 98 degree/98% humidity. Can't say that about any of my other footwear. I'm 55 years old and been driving a big truck for over 30 years. My only regret about the purchase of my Nick's Boots is that I didn't do it decades earlier. With the discount offered here, I think I'll buy a second pair in tan leather for everyday, off work use. Once broken in, they are the most comfortable boots I've owned. If you ever decide to pull the trigger on a pair, you won't be disappointed. Period - Full Stop

Get the boots. I will say it's going to be VERY uncomfortable until you can get them broke in. I live in the exact town where Nick's and whites started. You could be looking at months to break them in if you're hardly on your feet. Once they do break in nothing with beat them for comfort not even talking just boots but anything in general.

I thought that as well. They're called clinch nails, and when they're hammered in against the metal shoe last during the building process, the end of the nail curves back around so it doesn't poke your foot.
