Speaking of Culture, one of my own ancestors is a mixed Kapampangan, indigenous Aeta, and Irish! 😊

My wife is also from Mindanao and I have spent over 10 years living in the Philippines. My wives local language is not a written language and is changing rapidly as most of the locals speak 3-4-5 other languages. I can always tell when my wife is speaking to someone that grew up in the same area as they use 3-4 languages when talking to each other. Many have moved to different parts of the world however with new phones and apps they are keeping in touch. Amazing to me as they were born in a remote mangrove which is no longer remote. I hope the Philippines can hold on to it's country. I have had Chinese tell me that the Philippines is part of china but the locals like to think they are independent.

Tragically that has been true though out history. I am an Irish-German American and I speak more Spanish and Tagalog than either of those languages. I have asked my wife to teach me Tagalog, and Philippine history, and customs. Never allow the colonists to rob you of your culture, always remain a proud Pinoy.

I have found that to be true about people from English and Spanish speakers . We can here and understand, but we don't know what to say in response to what we are hearing in that language.

Because the Philippines has its own subcategory of Malayo-Polynesian language, the name of said subcategory is The Philippine Languages and it is also influenced by the Spanish. Malaysia and Indonesia have historically spoke Malay. Malay is influenced by English, Indonesian is influenced by Dutch, while Filipino is Influenced by Spanish. (Also maybe geography has something to do with it)

I born in south in davao I am ilongo chavacano but I speak more visayan and my schooling from high school to college is in manila. I learn the facts that Filipino is not just about Tagalog it is on our law and that facts is Filipino is modern and mix up of different ethnic language here in ph. It is a fact and opinion.

Btw, we always had our languages, varieties of Filipino languages, we call "wikang katutubo" even before we had Filipino as wikang pambansa; I only included "na" when i mentioned saying , "...kung kailan may sariling wika na tayong kinikilala..." since we made our choice to not use English nor Spanish language as wikang katutubo, rather we chose to enact what our laws or constitution says to go and search for a wikang katutubo that will serve as a basis for developing our wikang pambansa... and other issues about what happened along its way politically and socially is quite a long story, but I just wanna share my thoughts, anyway.

the idea that spaniards never taught you spanish is completely denying your own history, and just buying american propaganda without looking for the real reasons why you don't speak spanish now, you have to consider the distance between spain and the philippines, also you have to know that in the boats natigating throught the galeon de manila always more than half of the people died , like in one expedition from 400 people just arrived 160.there was a lack of teachers in the philippines for that reason, then you also have to know how the spanish langauge was spread in the americas, also on thing to note spanish was more easily spread throught miscegenation , one example mexico after its independence from spain in 1820 just 38% of the population were spanish speaking, but thanks to the newly independent goverment they spread education throught all corner and in just a couple of decades the spanish population grow from 38% to 90% in 1880. in the philippines were less spanish speaking people like 15 to 20% for the afore mentioned and the less spanish speaking migration and so less miscegenation with the local people of the philippines. and even in the constitution of malolos spanish was set as an oficial national lanaguge of the newly independent philippines but right after this the american came in and in the filipinos american war 15% of the filipino population were killled, then the mass education of the english langauge for the tomasillos, then the japanese invasion who killled more philippinos, and finally the bombarding of intramuro and cavite in the batle of manila, erased the last remaning of spanish speaking filipinos, and after the war many spanish speanking filipinos fled the country. going from 20% before the first filipino-american war to just 5% by the independence from the united states

I’m Filipino, I know I have an accent, but when people jokingly talk about my accent, I reply “Oh really I thought I’m the only one here without an accent. I have a hardtime understanding southern accents, British accents, Indian accents but I put myself in their place, like I tell myself there have been times when people could not understand me because of my accent
