Up to now, I still see scholars saying how we learned this and that from the Spanish. It doesn't make sense to me when China had many of those things before even the Spanish came. Like cotton, plow, building with cement etc. Why would the Filipinos wait for the Spanish to learn from when they had access to China and all the other countries around us like Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, India? We need to stop writing Philippine history from the point of view of colonialism. Maybe it's time to start overturning those statues...

This was a momentous event in phil history because the sultan of sulu traveled and died there in China paying respect to ming emperor . This predates the fall of eastern Roman Empire in 1453. Can you imagine that the sultan reached china even before the fall of eastern Roman Empire. The Beginning of Poon Tao Kong in Sulu The thriving Lannang (Chinese) community in the Sulu Archipelago meant the need for Chinese temple to support the spiritual needs of this community. Thus were constructed the so-called "Poon Tao Kong", which have become colloquial term for Chinese temple on Jolo Island (at Jatî Tunggal, Indanan), Siasi Island and Bongao Island. According to local narrative, during the maritime expedition of Zheng He, a representative was left in Jolo, and became somewhat the local Chinese ambassador on the island. His name was Pei Pei Hsien and when he died he was eulogized as "The Honorable Fountain Head", thus the Chinese term "Poon Tao Kong". His remains was buried at Jatî Tunggal, Indanan, Sulu, where a temple was also constructed. The photos below are what remains of the place. The Poon Tao Kong temple in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, is still in operation and maintain by the local Lannang community. A photo of the facade appears below. We have no info as to the status of the Poon Tao Kong temple in Siasi, Sulu.

I heard kasi from someone I know, and he even read me a book that he had with him (I forgot though the title) but it said that there by some chinese sources who mentioned that there were some weird and ugly people covered with black paints in their bodies who would come with boat, whom I believe they refer to Pintados who went to several east coastal communities of china around 1225 to not invade them but weirdly just to take irons from them, from there homes, door knobs...etc it mentioned about the "Feshuye or bashniya "(I dont know how to spell it right). And one of the evidences that caught my attention was it says from their description of those "weird and ugly people covered with black paints" na may tali sa bandang hulihan ng arrows nila. I couldn't find the same book, but it's interesting kasi in school we are thought about our history from the spanish colonialism up-to the Marcos dictatorship, and we even discuss and argue with each other, but I sometimes wondered and ask myself ano naman kaya ang nagyari even before the spanish came? Paano kaya nabuhay ang mga ninuno natin?Paano kaya sila namuhay?...etc. Though there people around me who says na kulang o hindi naman kaya halos walang natirang mga ebidensya about sa past natin before the Spanish, at saka malaki ang naging influence ng mga banyaga sa atin, pero it's still amazing and interesting kasi mayaman tayo sa kultura at iba tayo. Its just that there is something good about the Filipinos that I cant comprehend well how or why, though we face social and political issues and there is the presence of gaps among us, but trying to slowly unravel or perhaps just find it out is interesting, and it deepens our understanding of ourselves.
