That statistic at 1:46 is absolutely mind blowing. Sex deprivation, lack of direction, depression without anyone really caring, loneliness, and the constant pressure from society to live up to a certain standard and the internal and external shame that goes along with not doing so are all huge issues with young men these days, yet so many people simply don’t care and even ridicule men for having them.

I've had the same experience for the last 15 years of my adult life and I'm a female. We live in a society that is not conducive towards community or even human interaction. Everything about the suburbs is built around never having to socialize. You don't even have to socialize to order food, go grocery shopping or go to work. It's a huge disaster for everyone; men and women alike. Women are just better at handling it than men. Men are wired differently. I will say that the only thing I've ever found off putting about men is resentment and hatred. Looks were never an issue for men, weight wasn't really that big of a deal. Income was only an issue if you were in your mom's house. I don't think most women are entirely picky in that regard, I think most women are willing to give men a chance. It's just that opportunities for dating are limited to these silly dating apps. if you're a guy who isn't having luck, I definitely recommend some meet up groups.

One factor I felt that wasn't discussed, and is honestly not discussed enough when this subject comes up, is the lack of friendships many people have today. If you don't have friends, there's really no other realistic outlet for you to meet someone than by a dating app. If you have friends though, you could meet people through their social networks, friends of friends, or just while out one night.

Fight Club did a great job at portraying the problem, but I'm not sure the solution to the problem is all that clear. It did end, however, with Ed Norton fighting his own demon instead of expecting women to come down to his level and just be who he wanted them to be to make him feel better. I think that's the elephant in the room. Women changed, but men didn't. I don't really understand, though, why Bill thinks that men not going to college is a problem when he always says that college isn't necessary, and people shouldn't worry about not going. That's obviously not true. We need to make college more affordable for everyone.

When online dating started, it was all about finding your partner, and then you're done. But this switched when the people running dating apps realized that it was stupid to toss away customers, just because they found a partner. In fact, when the app succeeds, it loses TWO customers! This cannot be allowed to stand! And so (the predictability of this is so tiresome) they started de-emphasizing the idea of finding a partner and deleting the app and they started using all the social media psychological tricks, with the goal of just getting you to use the app and keep paying your subscription every month. After not using one app for a few weeks I got an unbelievable message from them with the subject line "Don't settle." These people are self-consciously encouraging dissatisfaction to improve their bottom line. If you can figure out how, meeting people IRL is much much better, easier and healthier all around.

I am married and have kids now but during my dating days I was just about invisible even to women shorter than me, maenwhile my tall guy friends did not even have to develop a personality to attract women. These days the only reason I get looks is because I have thick arms and back from working out.

What's funny is how women think they will beat the odds when the stats are straight up against them. It's only like 18% of men are over 6ft tall and then when you factor in married men, gay men/asexuals and very unnattractive men, then you're probably talking to close to 8% of eligible men based on height alone. Now add in education, income, religion, etc and you're talking about a very small single digit percentage that roughly 80% of women are vying for. It's really only a good thing for tall decent looking men but virtually all women and the rest of men lose out because of ridiculous expectations.

No he doesn't, or maybe he does and just chooses not to express it. He still portrays the problem men have as their own fault. This is simply not the case. The real culprits are women's emancipation (which has made them just like men in society, yet they have not adjusted their behavior and still want the traditional men while not wanting to play the role of traditional women) and government that enacts discriminatory policies (otherwise known as positive discrimination or DEI) so that men are deprived of the best and meaningful jobs in favour of women and minorities.

Well said. I'm studying Bible prophecy at the moment, and it blows my mind how it predicted the rise of Narcissism in society during the end times 2,000 years ago. Narcissists are equally accounted for among men and women, and they view others as objects for use. The rise of porn parallels this, and our ability to have functional and satisfying relationships with others is the casualty. No wonder that people feel more lonely and increasingly depressed. The recent worldwide lockdowns made it worse. Those of us who have Narcissist parents are a mile behind the starting line compared with our peers; our relationship skills have to be learned elsewhere, not in the home. It's only getting worse with this new generation of Narcissist parents turning their commodified children into trans or non-binary trophies for the parent to get attention: Munchausen's By Proxy. They don't care that their children are physically mutilated, and will be infertile and unable to have s*x as adults. Thank God this wasn't a thing when I was a child, or my Narcissist mother might have inflicted it on me in her power-tripping, schadenfreude, and abuse.🇭🇲

The problem isn’t about sex, it’s that millions of young men don’t get any love of affection or validation from women, they don’t have the companionship to keep them grounded & connected to society, sex is just a good measure of a man getting the rest of this… and it’s possibly 50% or more of young men don’t get a lot of sex actively anyway. 30% of 18 to 25 year olds only having sex once or zero times in a whole year means all the women are forced to share specific men, which also makes all the men who have many of them more cruel, likely to ghost, see them as objects or accessories & not care about having healthy relationships with one.

Growing up, I watched in horror as my mom broke my dad's spirit. She always complained that he refused to step up and take responsibility. The man worked 60+ hours a week at a coal mine, took care of the home repairs, shoveled snow, manicured the lawn, and still found time to relax for an hour each night before going to bed. She hated that he would take time for himself every day, no matter how hard he worked. She used the money he earned to go to college, get her nursing degree, divorce him, and take half his stuff. I remember many times where my mom openly berated my dad in front of me and my siblings. I don't remember a single time where my dad lost his cool and fought back. Men who grew up like I did do not want women in our lives. I know not all women are like my mom, but our culture at large seems to defend women as perfect beings while bashing men as oppressors. I look at the subliminal messaging hidden in plain sight everywhere that tells me I need to "man up" and stop treating women badly. I would rather avoid women altogether than invite one into my life to tear me down while she plays the victim.

But not in the way you think. It's the ridiculous idea that a college degree makes you better. The majority of college grads go there to party and get credentialed, learn nothing, and are barely employable. By contrast, a good solid education in the trades can give you essential skills and thrice the income of the average college grad. Also, there are plenty of non-college grads who are READERS and curious to learn. In fact, these are often more intellectually interesting and solid people than the ones who partied through their creative arts or sociology majors. This is INDEPENDENT of what gender you are.

Isn’t it a bit contradictory to say “the working from home thing is a disaster for young men” during a discussion about how men get a college degrees less than women? Presumably a vast majority of people who work from home have a college degree since it’s typically a working style that’s white collar. The fascination some people have with going to the office and “building relationships” with coworkers is annoying to say the least. I’ve worked professionally for over 11 years now and the past 2 or so have been remote and I have never in my life been happier with my work/life balance. I don’t miss one bit the grueling commutes, the hundreds of near accidents (and a couple actual ones), thousands a year spent on gas and tolls, cliched work conversations, feeling like your managers are hovering over you, looking for ways to stay busy when work is slow. The average commuter in the US takes nearly a half hour to get to work. That’s an hour a day on the road and probably another hour prior to that commute to get ready to go to work and an hour after you get home to just wind down, change, shower, make dinner etc. All that time can be spent at home, with your family or loved ones and most importantly with yourself and your own mental well-being.

I think he’s right about the social media aspect. I remember 25-30 years ago when I was in high school and college that we (as men) actually WENT OUT to socialize either by ourselves or in a group and (depending on what kind of strange you were looking for) meet women. Even the nerdiest, most awkward among us found a woman that appreciated them. The issue is, it’s far too easy to hide behind a screen, be someone you’re not while having unrealistic expectations of beauty and wealth (this goes for both men and women). Add to this-the past 15 years society has stated that male behavior (anything that traditionally defines men and their behavior) has been deemed “toxic.” So, as a society, you’ve decided men are toxic, and created millions of literal “yes men” and believe it or not, women don’t want that.
@IPASAustralia

Oh, that is so true! My comment (elsewhere here) somewhat reinforces what you have observed. The other issue here in Australia is that TV commercials always show men as being moronic fools... particularly white men. Yup. A woman told me recently I was mansplaining to her when I was answering a question SHE asked and all I wanted to do was roll her noggin. Society has demonized literally male existence and are now asking men to calm down. Nothing in society is helping men but actually destroying men. I watched a documentary about boys in schools and how NOTHING in the public school system is there to benefit boys or tailor to them in anyway. It's really sad how badly society needs masculine men but how we're demonized for it. I've been called toxic because I'd rather my ex not go out for girls night. I'm like, wow, men are toxic for wanting healthy relationships now to? Ugh, thank God for dogs or I'd self delete. So tired of everything my father raised me to be is somehow wrong now.

As someone pretty close in age to you I agree with almost everything you said except the last small paragraph. Perhaps a little nostalgic about socializing and finding women as back then the nerdy guys typically were left alone and girls wanted the jocks. Might be because everyone wanted the IT girl at the bar and weren’t realistic about who they should be pursuing. Hate to say it but our generation raised this Gen Z group and while I can attest to hiring a few very good working young men and women, there are a lot that think before their first annual review they should be running the place and grow impatient quickly. The last paragraph about liberal yes men seems off putting while old school conservative call their wives “mother” like Pence and I have certainly heard that elsewhere. Our HR dept talks about how many of the just out of school kids looking for jobs can’t even look you in the eye during a discussion and have no ability to build rapport during the interview process. Phones and social media have a big impact on depression, unrealistic expectations of life but can also show creative new ways to make a living rather than just punching a time clock

Back in the 90s I would go to various bars to hang out (I was at that time the bar manager and the owner and I often would spend the non-busy nights checking out our competition). I found that either women were not interested in me or they were psychotic. (I had one date where I picked her and she had not showered, she reeked, went to her "favorite" bar where she then saw her friends and left me sit for half an hour alone. I told her I wanted to go home so we left. She invited me in but I declined politely. She emailed me asking for another date to which I declined politely again and got a response of a torrent of profanity). I joined a dating site, found someone with similar interests to mine. We've been married for 20 years now. After working in a bar, from my experience it is the worst place to meet someone, or meet someone special. Most people who hang out in bars are generally not someone you would ever want to marry.

"If women avoid you that should tell you something" is a typical retort, as if he should instinctively know how to solve it. I am on my 50s and have been married for 15 years, but when 20 I remember greatly resenting that I was supposed to instinctively know whether someone was interested in me or if she was just being polite, I had to ask if she'd like to get together, I had to think of something to do, I had to pay for it, and I was dismissed as a creepy jerk if I miscalculated any of this. @@handthefs8197 That's not even close to what the person you're responding to is saying. You're attributing the healthy need to communicate with people as "needing to get women constantly" which is complete deflection. Most men are not interested in shagging it up with every girl who gives them an in, they want a genuine companionship and someone they can have intimacy and trust with especially during these extremely difficult times for young people. Nobody said men have a right to have sex, but clearly the internet and the globalization of the dating market has completely fucked over the average man compared to say the average woman. Don't believe me? Look at Tinder/Bumble swipe rates for each sex. For men they swipe right on 50% of women and are willing to forgo their physical appearance standards a lot for someone who's bio appears to align with their interests. For women it's less than 5%. But even then women aren't happy because dating apps have vastly negatively affected women's psychology when it comes to dating because those top 5% of men usually want a one and done quick fuck and women feel they don't need to settle when they have so many choices of attention from the top 5% of men so they are affected by artificial narcissism and a detachment from healthy relationship building. So no, you attributing the 95% of men who get passed over as bitter losers who should suck it up is the reason why young men are increasingly unhappy.

Healthy masculinity is basically and masculinity is that’s toxic, as the defining trait of toxic masculinity is it’s highly restrictive nature. When men are allowed to whatever makes happy it’s healthy masculinity. Be them bread winners, or house husbands, stoics, or wear their heart on their sleeve. Toxic masculinity is only letting men be one way, and all other ways are wrong

They don't mention how women are harassed and intimidated by those angry men. It's scary out there. And this panel is blaming women for being too "choosy", while we have to watch our back very carefully. This was a very shallow review of the whole situation.

Baby boomers always say “work hard” a lot of people work hard and live in their cars. At this point telling younger generations they simply need to work hard to get ahead is trite and reductive

Unfortunately, most people just imitate their environment. And boomers were told exactly that, by virtually everybody no matter what situation, all their lives. So it's no surprise they pass it on to the next generations as unthinkingly as it was passed along to them as if it were a real problem solver and not just a way to get them to shut up and not look into things too deeply.

He said women with degrees don't marry men without degrees and they started clapping. Imagine if that sentence was reversed. This audience will be dragged and cancelled before they leave the studio And there in lies the problem. Men's issue are treated on the scale of "we don't care" to "oh that's funny". NO ONE CARES. And that's ok. But don't tell us how to deal with the bad hand we've been dealt with.

I disagree with them on a few things, Women are also going deeper into debt with college and getting useless degrees in some cases. The guy with no debt and working in the trades won't become a rich man but he's making a living unlike the 30 year old woman with her degree and working at Starbucks.

As men in the West, we’re like a dog that’s locked up in a house all day with nothing to do. When you suppress a dog’s purpose, it’s gonna chew the couch. We all need a purpose and men are built for specific purposes that are not valued in today’s society.

Not considering the fact that he's a professor from NYU whose job entailed doing these studies and researching them so he's only relaying the results he discovered. Adding to that, these comments just reinforce how no one cares about men, keeps dogging on them, and all that shaming has exponential harm.
