Most of us may know someone whose been through a crisis of faith or perhaps even know someone who is no longer a Muslim.
Islam may be the fastest growing religion in the world with the highest number of converts but there is a dark side often left neglected of Muslims who have renounced their faith in Allah and His Messenger (saw).
We are seeing more and more people question and doubt their faith and become either agnostic or atheist and the reality is that very few of us are qualified to deal with this phenomenon.
The problems & challenges that our youth go through today is unlike that of previous generations and we need to be there to help our brothers and sisters when they go through this difficult crisis in their lives.
In this intellectually stimulating talk Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi challenges the modern mindset and brings forth a rational paradigm of looking at Islam that is sound & gratifying to the intellectual mind.

You are trying to deflect and discourage people of critically reading the Quran Why bcs you very well know that if people read the quran critically, Quran can not defend its self against the sharp critics and muslims can't hide or explain its flaws and lies ... the no returning point has been reached for islam . @DavidBrowne-wx7cm 4 жыл бұрын
@@SN-zd7wi Actually he speaks the truth. At the Battle of Yamama over 400 hafizes died and with their deaths over 400 Surah. That is a fact. When Uthman selected the Uthman Codex as the one real Quran (there were others which he burnt along with historical artefacts) other hafizes admitted forgetting some or all of their Surah. Others said that their Surah was only used in part or left out altogether. Who decided all this? Actually it was the scribes who wrote the Quran. Yes it was scribes (men) who wrote the Quran. Therefore the errors of men were just as applicable to the Quran as they were to the Bible. Remember also, that Muhammad spoke classical Arabic western dialect of Mecca. The Uthman codex was written in the more popular eastern dialect. So therefore we have translation occurring. I bet they do not tell you that at the mosque or the madrassa. What about the Sana'a parchment found in Yemen. It is claimed to be the oldest living relic of the Quran X rays show it had a first draft underneath. In other words the manuscript had been worked on. Rather than Having a go at Winston, have alook at your own scriptures and learn more than just rote learning the Quran. here is an interesting aspect. What do modern scholars think of this story? Not very much, as it happens. There are all sorts of potential issues with the traditional Islamic account, which is derived from sources only compiled centuries after Muhammad. Perhaps the most significant, and worth leading with here, is that there is mounting evidence that the Qur’an, or at least the bulk of it, predates Muhammad. A number of manuscript fragments have been found which can be dated (by carbon dating of parchment) to well before the time Muhammad was active. It is also packed with agricultural and geographical references which are out of place in the arid Arabian Peninsula, and written in a dialect of Arabic which even early Muslim scholars agreed was not the dialect of Muhammad’s tribe in Mecca. Current thinking is still far from settled, but some evidence suggests it may have originated in the southern Levant or northern Arabia. I bet they do not teach you that at the mosque. Go and ask the Imam if surah were lost or forgotten. We both know what the answer to that will be. The Sana'a manuscript contains older portions of the Quran showing variances different from the Uthman copy. The parchment upon which the lower codex of the Sana'a manuscript is written has been radiocarbon dated with 99% accuracy to before 671 CE, with a 95.5% probability of being older than 661 CE and 75% probability from before 646 CE.[17] Tests by the Oxford Radiocarbon Accelerator Unit indicated with a probability of more than 94 percent that the parchment dated from 568 to 645.[18] The Sana'a palimpsest is one of the most important manuscripts of the collection in the world. This palimpsest has two layers of text, both of which are Quranic and written in the Hijazi script. While the upper text is almost identical with the modern Qurans in use (with the exception of spelling variants), the lower text contains significant diversions from the standard text. For example, in sura 2, verse 87, the lower text has wa-qaffaynā 'alā āthārihi whereas the standard text has wa-qaffaynā min ba'dihi. The Sana'a manuscript has exactly the same verses and the same order of verses as the standard Qur'an.[19] The order of the suras in the Sana'a codex is different from the order in the standard Quran.[20] Such variants are similar to the ones reported for the Quran codices of Companions such as Ibn Masud and Ubay ibn Ka'b. However, variants occur much more frequently in the Sana'a codex, which contains "by a rough estimate perhaps twenty-five times as many [as Ibn Mas'ud's reported variants]".[2) So read beyond the Quran. The Quran has many mistakes in it. It has Mary, mother of Jesus, allegedly the sister of Aaron. Aaron was Moises' brother. Moses and Aaron lived over 600 years before Mary. Likewise the Quran claims that Mary's father was Aaron's father. Have a look instead of claiming people are being deceitful. The only theocracy which supports deceit, if in the cause of Islam, is Islam and you do not want to start me on that one. You have a nice day and I hope you learnt something.

I have 3 ex-Muslims in my extended family. One became a Christian, one became a deist, one an atheist. So I'm speaking purely from personal experience here. It's all about lifestyle. That's the bottom line. It's not reason, rationalism, or science that convinced these people to leave Islam, it's the fact that they didn't want to live an Islamic lifestyle. They wanted to follow their whims and desires rather than submit to God. They wanted alcohol, sex, etc, and didn't want to pray or fast. So they chose the former. وَذَرِ الَّذِينَ اتَّخَذُوا دِينَهُمْ لَعِبًا وَلَهْوًا وَغَرَّتْهُمُ الْحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا ۚ وَذَكِّرْ بِهِ أَنْ تُبْسَلَ نَفْسٌ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ لَيْسَ لَهَا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ وَلِيٌّ وَلَا شَفِيعٌ وَإِنْ تَعْدِلْ كُلَّ عَدْلٍ لَا يُؤْخَذْ مِنْهَا ۗ أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ أُبْسِلُوا بِمَا كَسَبُوا ۖ لَهُمْ شَرَابٌ مِنْ حَمِيمٍ وَعَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْفُرُون "And leave those who take their religion as amusement and diversion and whom the worldly life has deluded. But remind with the Qur'an, lest a soul be given up to destruction for what it earned; it will have other than Allah no protector and no intercessor. And if it should offer every compensation, it would not be taken from it. Those are the ones who are given to destruction for what they have earned. For them will be a drink of scalding water and a painful punishment because they used to disbelieve." 6.70 Again, this is from personal experience. Individual cases may be different.

I think that's usually what it boils down to in most other cases too. They try to rationalize it because they're ashamed - oh women's rights, oh violence, oh this, oh that - really? Didn't wanna fast or pray.

standingunder Exactly. It's an emotional decision, which gets "rationalized" later. Plus the amount of support and encouragement they get from their new communities (atheist or Christian) is huge. Contrast that with how Muslims treat reverts which is basically: takbeers when they announce their shahadah, but no support at all afterwards. That needs to change in my humble opinion. A few months ago, I wrote a blog post response to one of the prominent ex-Muslims. People who leave Islam say that that Quran is full of internal contradictions, scientific errors and historical blunders. Muslims claim that Quran is ‘a miracle of miracles.’ This statement is a blatant and greatest lie ever told. Here are a few samples of contradictions in Quran: examples of internal contradictions-- 54:19 mentions Aad was destroyed in a day but 69:6,7 mentions Aad was destroyed in seven nights and eight days; 19:17 shows an angel appeared to Mary but 3:42 shows several angels appeared; 28:40 mentions pharaoh drowned and died but 10:92 states that the same pharaoh was saved; examples of scientific errors--18:86 states that sun sets in a muddy spring of water; 15:19 mentions earth is flat; 86:6,7 states that semen emits from between back-bone and the ribs; examples of historical blunders-19:27,28 states that Mary was the sister of Aaron, whereas history shows they were born about 1300 years apart; 28:8 tells that pharaoh and Haman were living at the same time and place whereas history clearly shows they were born about 1000 years apart and pharaoh lived in Egypt and Haman lived in Shushan city in Persia; and 4:157 says that Jesus was not crucified whereas it is crystal clear in historical records that Jesus was crucified and not another man who looked like Jesus. By the way, the transliterated name of Jesus in arabic Quran is Isa but even this is wrong because the name of Esau, brother of Jacob (Yaqub in arabic) is Isa in arabic. The correct transliterated name of Jesus in arabic is Yasu. Isa (Esau) means ‘hairy’ and Yasu (Jesus) means ‘God saves.’ Muslims tell so many lies to cover up all internal contradictions, scientific errors and historical blunders in Quran. Any sane person can become sick of Muslim apologists’ deception and lies of ‘out of context,’ ‘bad translation’ and ‘arabic Quran can not be translated’ to hide and conceal the contradictions in the Quran.

Shakespeare’s Juliet was just 13, and there is no hint in the play that this was considered to be exceptional. The situation was similar on the other side of the Atlantic; Bullough reports the case in 1689 of a nine-year-old bride in Virginia. At the start of the nineteenth century in England, it was legal to have sex with a 10 year-old girl.”

Ibn Omer ***** Muslims claim that Islam is the best religion, the perfect religion better than all other systems, and yet Muslims appeal to non-Muslim system they consider inferior in order to justify the supposedly superior positions of Islam. In other words, while there may have been historical instances of girls being married off at young ages in the West, the West was able to progress beyond that to the point that we understand marriage of underage girls is not good. However, since the Qur'an and Sunna cannot change, Muslims are left facing the fact that their "perfect" religion forever teaches that grown Muslim marrying underage, prepubescent girls is a good thing.

IslamALie Your fixation with Islam makes you blind. Islam does not teach its followers: Thou shall marry a 9 years old girl. And therefore, Muslim countries today have implemented the age of consent at par with the rest of the world, or even older compared to many US states. Another correction of your claim: "the West was able to progress beyond that": In 2015, Age of consent (With parental consent and the consent of the judge ) in US states: Massachusetts 12 for females, 14 for males. New Hampshire 13 for females, 14 for males. Contrast with a sample of Muslim countries: Lebanon, Syria, Uzbekistan: Male 18, Female 17 Algeria, Bangladesh: Male 21, Female 18 Tunisia: Male 18, Female 17 Pakistan, Egypt: Male 18, Female 16 Important note on Islamic law's adaptability: The Quran provides general guideline for age of consent: “Make trial of orphans until they reach the age of marriage; if then ye find sound judgment in them, release their property to them; but consume it not wastefully, nor in haste against their growing up.” - (Quran 4: 6 ) The Muslim jurists agree that the ‘age of marriage’ mentioned here is age of puberty. Shafis alone declare that age of 15 years should be taken as age of marriage. Other branches of Islam don’t give any specific age but agree that age of marriage can be different in different regions depending upon the age of puberty. Furthermore, consent of a Muslim marriage partner is not recognized unless she reaches to the age of puberty. Last but not least; Aisha's age is a matter of debate among Muslims-- putting her age between 12 - 18: While you are at quoting Islamic sources, why not quote the reports that also suggest that Aisha was 12 - 15 years old-- even better accept all of Bukhari and become a Muslim. according to other methods of calculating her age, she could have been 12 - 18 years old. Most of the Hadith narrations mentioning her age was nine are reported through Hisham ibn Urwa while living in Iraq, where Hisham ibn Urwa is reported to have relocated after living in Madinah for seventy-one years. It is reported in one of the most well known books on the life and reliability of the narrators of the traditions ascribed to the Muhammad reports that Yaqub ibn Shaibah said, “narratives reported by Hisham are reliable except those that are reported through the people of Iraq”. It further states that Malik ibn Anas objected on those narratives of Hisham, which were reported through people of Iraq. Another book on the narrators of the traditions of the Muhammad reports that when he was old, Hisham’s memory suffered quite badly. We find evidence in both Hadith books and history books that indicates Aisha must have been older than nine when she got married: According to a hadith in Bukhari and Muslim, Aisha is said to have joined Muhammad on the raid that culminated in the Battle of Badr, in 624 CE. However, because no one below the age of fifteen was allowed to accompany raiding parties, Aisha should have been at least fifteen in 624 CE and thus at least thirteen when she was married following the Hijra in 622 CE. Ibn Hisham’s version of Ibn Ishaq’s Sirat Rashul Allah, the earliest surviving biography of Muhammad, records Aisha as having converted to Islam before Umar ibn al-Khattab, during the first few years of Islam around 610 CE. In order to accept Islam she must have been walking and talking, hence at least three years of age, which would make her at least fifteen in 622 CE. Tabari reports that Abu Bakr wished to spare Aisha the discomforts of a journey to Ethiopia soon after 615 CE, and tried to bring forward her marriage to Mut`am’s son. Mut`am refused because Abu Bakr had converted to Islam, but if Aisha was already of marriageable age in 615 CE, she must have been older than nine in 622 CE. Tabari also reports that Abu Bakr’s four children were all born during the Jahiliyyah (Pre-Islam Period), which has ended in 610 CE, making Aisha at least twelve in 622 CE. According to Ibn Hajar, Fatima was five years older than Aisha. Fatima is reported to have been born when Muhammad was thirty-five years old, meaning Aisha was born when he was forty years old, and thus twelve when Muhammad married at fifty-two.

Congratulations on your decision. I know it was difficult. I lost my faith also. I was raised a Christian. I still think it is way, way more loving and less violent than Islam, but Christ based his ministry on the validity of the Old Testament, and within that are several stories of God ordained violence where he tells his followers to kill women and children. I do not believe that a just God would ever make such demands, and I don't think a true God would be telling people to do those sort of things in one century and then "turn the other cheek" and "love your enemies" the next. A true God would be consistent 100% of the time, all of the time. A true God could do his own killing. His own enforcing.

Hate for others is what units the Muslims and that’s what makes it so dangerous. Tru message doesn’t have to be spread by the sword but by love and reason.

***** "then how come the pope, rabbis imams who have learned the most and believe most." Well, for one thing, they haven't "learned the most", they have specialized in one particular subject, and that subject is some fictitious fairy tale story from somewhere between the bronze age and the dark age. That's not exactly a solid basis for figuring out how the world works. And then, of course, it isn't at all clear whether they *actually* believe "most", or indeed at all. Certainly among the various popes there were quite a few characters whose actions seem difficult to reconcile with sincere belief, but by the time someone becomes a religious leader they have a lot riding on the appearance of belief. After all, what else would a person like that do? A career in science and engineering seems out of the question, and so do most other honest ways of earning a living.

***** Thanks a lot! I am too curious person, so I wanted to understand exactly the religion I loved so much. I discussed with imams, listened to respected scholars, but the obvious contradictions were always overlooked. So eventually I just found more sensible and meaningful explanation. It was hard especially because of my family. You know, in Pakistan, Allah is something absolutely normal and a daily reality. I love my family, and I feel sorry that they waste time with all those rituals. But on the other hand, if it makes them feel good, then I am happy. So I do not manifest my disbelief, I rather claim that I am not so sure about the teaching. I live in West now, but whenever I come to visit them, I always have the awesome periodical excuse why I should not pray. Oh,I love being a woman :D

Kusoom Khan There are simply too many things that don't make any sense. I will not write all, but at least some of them: 1. Islam is supposed to be a clear message from Allah, easily accessible and understandable guidance. Then why Quran was revealed in Arabic to one Arab? That will immediately make it more difficult to understand for non-arab speakers. Almightly God could have done much better in order to convey his message. 2. This life (dunya) is supposed to be a Test and on the day of Judgement, Allah will decide whether you go to Hell or Heaven. First of all, Allah knows the result before you are even born, then why there is the Test? The answer for this was that Allah need to show you WHY exactly are you going to Hell (because for example you raped small children). But again, Almighty can do absolutely anything. He can have another way how to prove you that you belong to Hell. 3. Why Allah created this universe? Was he bored? Did he need it? Does not sound like Almighty, All knowing entity. 4. Religion is an excellent tool for controlling crowds and it works. Some parts suggest the male-dominant point of view. Like for example if a woman refuses to have sex, angels will curse her... That is exactly the what men wish. 5. Once again, if you are a leader, you go to war, you need your soldiers to be completely devout to you and their live should not be so much important for them. Then teach them about better afterlife and they will happily die for you. 6. Fasting during Ramadan is OK for ppl in Arabia and whole tropic region, but people from Iceland should fast 22 hours?? That is almost dangerous I'd say. All knowing God didn't know about it? I know there are rules that you can follow times of Mecca, but those are rather fatwas, there is neither verse in Quran nor hadith afaik. There are many other things, but I am too lazy to write them...

Biggest issue is for those born into slavery, and their duties to the person who owns them. 2) Marriage of Aisha at 6 and consummation at 9. 3) Marriage of Zaid’s wife 4) Islam allows a man to marry 4 wives but a woman 1 and it’s not her right to question the man for marrying more than 1. 5) The prophet married more than 4, 13 I think but not sure, Islam allows other men 4. But marrying a young person or not banning slavery full stop affects other people.

and in Quran there are these verses Qur'an permits men to have s*xual access to “what their right hands possess,” meaning female captives or slaves (Q. 23.5-6) The verses: And they who guard their private parts Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors My thoughts: Either Quran is not timeless and exclusive for people of all time or it goes against human rights and women's rights. If you are biased then sure Quran isn't problematic. Quran allows men to marry 4 women. But women can't do the same. But an all knowing God should know that women can be naturally poly as well. There are plenty of poly women in this world but Quran is biased towards men anyway. Quran 4:3] If you deem it best for the orphans, you may marry their mothers - you may marry two, three, or four. If you fear lest you become unfair, then you shall be content with only one, or with what you already have. In a timeless book, Allah is so worried about Prophet's personal issues and especially his wives not marrying someone else, cause indeed it's very important Quran 33:53 O you who believe, do not enter the houses of the Prophet, unless you are permitted for a meal, not (so early as) to wait for its preparation. But when you are invited, go inside. Then, once you have had the meal, just disperse, and (do) not (sit for long) being keen for a chat. This (conduct of yours) hurts the Prophet, but he feels shy of (telling) you (about it), but Allah is not shy of the truth. And when you ask any thing from them (the blessed wives of the Prophet), ask them from behind a curtain. That is better for the purity of your hearts and their hearts. It is not allowed for you that you hurt Allah’s Messenger, nor that you ever marry his wives after him. Indeed, it would be an enormity in the sight of Allah. Quran 66:1-5: Mohammad has s*x with slaves, threatens his wives that they shouldn't go against it cause Allah has made it lawful for him.(Just read the verses yourself) Quran 33-37 [When Zayd no longer wanted her, We gave her to you in marriage so that there might be no fault in believers marrying the wives of their adopted sons after they no longer wanted them. God’s command must be carried out] Allah is very worried about Prophet's s*x life, He wanted Him to marry Aisha (let's say she was 14), as a man in His 50s cause Allah wanted prophet to help a poor girl by sle*ping with her, Her memory was great (for deen), so he couldn't get her as a disciple, it was a must to marry her. Didn’t get to that point in the video yet, but my 2 cents is that the point is that if it’s beyond your rationale it doesn’t make it true or false. So it’s not enough to disprove religion (i.e. using the philosophical study of logic, it can’t be deemed irrational ). But beyond that, at that point we can think about what makes sense to us and what basis of reasonings we can rely on to further distinguish these truths. And from the perspective of atheism, it is incumbent to believe life doesn’t have meaning because meaning can’t come from no meaning. And so it is also necessary to believe your rationality is meaningless, arbitrary, and holds no value in distinguish absolute truths from non-truths. So in this way relying on intellect brings you to step 1 because you can’t rely on it in the first place. This changes if you start with a belief of intelligent design, which allows for the existing of meaning, which can give reason, which you can rely on, which you can asses the world with. And i believe the only way from here which does not conflict with the philosophical study of logic is that you must believe there is a being beyond the scope of rationality.

It takes strong believers to stand for their beliefs regardless of what people say. Most people just want to be like everyone else, that’s the easiest way. Some people wish they could change their color or ethnicity just to be accepted by others. While you cannot change your color nor your ethnicity, you have a choice to change your religion. The logic is not that simple. Back then people we'd call "old" looked and felt young, and people we'd call "young" looked and felt older. The "old" people were highly active and didn't eat McDonalds every other week, and the young people were highly active and not playing video games in a basement 24/7. So by _that_ logic, the Prophet Muhammad - peace be upon him - probably looked and felt like a healthy 30-40 year old person of our times, and our Mother Aisha, as the speaker said, around 16-18. If you still find that weird, then lest you're incurable, you'd think more about this and do your research.

Logic is simple. It was written by a men Qur'an permits men to have s*xual access to “what their right hands possess,” meaning female captives or slaves (Q. Quran allowed 4 wives but Mohammad was an exception, He's still a noble man, not lu*tful at all.

To be honest, the reason why I left Islam, and the flaw with all religions in general, is the idea that there would be an all powerful god, who would spend so much time and love in creating all humans equally. And then admit a small percentage of them into heaven, because they were 'fortunate' enough to be brainwashed into the religion since birth. Most Muslims in the world today, 98% of them are Muslim by birth and culture, and only 2% by choice and reason. It just doesn't make sense.

Islam like every other religion in the history of the world has not met its burden of proof. He says rationality changes, yet Islam accepts objective morality, but in fact, morality is subjective. He starts with assertions like the Quran is the book of Allah so we must accept the message. This is fallacious. He has to demonstrate that the Quran is indeed written by Allah. I would like to ask the good preacher these questions. What are the specific testable claims that are unique to Islam? What method does he use to verify the accuracy of those claims? And, What method did he use to verify how that accuracy was attained? Islam has failed in addressing those questions. That's one of the many reasons people are leaving religion in general.

JOJO FreelancerKUP Why does it resemble the bible? The bible says: John 16:13 ‘However, when the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own initiative but will say only what he hears. He will also announce to you the events of the future.’ The spirit of truth is the last prophet Muhammad SAW This implies that the christian religion is not complete, meaning that Islam completes the religion. They come from the same God, the same message in essence. That is ‘worship the only and one God and follow his messengers’. Every prophet had miracles to prove that they were prophets. Prophet Muhammad did miracles and he was truthful, even his enemies never said that he was a liar and they were amazed of his honesty. How did Allah (God in Arabic) created the universe? It is described in the Quran “Do not the Unbelievers see That the heavens and the earth Were joined together (as one Unit of Creation), before We clove them asunder?” [Al-Qur’aan 21:30] It’s even scientifically proven! Called the Big Bang Theory Why heaven and hell? This worldly life is a test, whether you worship the only and one God. The biggest sin is shirk, which is worshiping other than or associating partners with Allah. How can you NOT worship the one that deserves to be worshipped? He created you! He created every creation! As for why heaven? He is the most gracious and merciful. Also the innate of the human is to do a sin. Heaven and hell are made for sinners, how? One is for who repents (asks for forgiveness) and gets rewarded and the other is for those who don’t. When you are Qur an only muslim? I don’t get this question Why is there no evolution in the Quran? What do you mean by evolution? For the other questions, find the wisdom behind it! Like why is such and such? And think why is this done when something happens and find the logical reason behind it.

And yes definitely doc will tell the disease you have and that’s the only thing a patient needs to know . And just follow the medication. Now like wise people believes the god / Allah in their way of the scripture . Once you believe the Allah you know you have to worship him( just tike you know you have to take medicine) . @Msvks it's really great that you know that much about a religion . but I'm just adding a point that i know with my little knowledge . islam is not just the religion of Mohammad (sm). whatever religions were there before islam if it was given by Allah that was islam . like the religion of prophet Musa, phophet Isa , etc . those all were religions approved by Allah for those period of time . it works like for example os android , different upgraded versions coming to us at different times matching with the age . being said that ...don't we find some features from old android versions on our latest versions of os . for example -- pinch zoom ' feature was introduced back in os v 2.3 , it's still thriving on v10 coz it's super useful . theres nothing wrong in using it in latest version . now if you find something like fasting , or 5 times prayer on other religions before Mohammads (sm) islam , and also there in Mohammads (sm) islam as well ...there's nothing wrong here , as many of those past religions were also from Allah.

Good grief. The essence of his argument is that Muslims should not question the Quran and the Sunnah. If they have doubts or questions about Islam they should question their own motives and not question Islam. That is the teaching of all cults. Don't question the leader. Just obey.
@mylord9340
@mylord9340 5 жыл бұрын
@Najma Khan yes, I am aware of that. Still the idea that Muslims should not question their religion if they develop doubts is rather cultish and reveals a desire on the part of leaders to control the thoughts of their followers. Muhammad asked people of other religions to question their religions and to use reason to critique those other religions, but when it comes to Islam, believers are to force themselves to not question the beliefs of Islam. Isn't that hypocrisy, Najma? If the truth is evident from falsehood, then Islamic beliefs should be open to question and Muslims should be encouraged to voice their doubts not run from them or suppress them. That is my only point.
@mylord9340
@mylord9340 5 жыл бұрын
@Jay Crew ah, if it were so easy. Providing facts and information do not usually win arguments and that is not the best way to convince people of a truth. Providing facts and information in an argument often leads to the other side becoming more intransigent in respect to their preferred beliefs. Our beliefs are strongly intertwined with our emotions and sense of self. People decide what facts and information they accept and whether to change their opinions based on their beliefs and predispositions. If information or the facts do not conform to what they already believe the information and facts are discarded or rationalized. And then the more intelligent a person the more skillful that person will be at manipulating data and information to make them conform to what they already want to believe. Many people therefore use their intelligence not to find truth but rather they use their intelligence to change or interpret information to conform to what they already believe or want to believe. Unless your interlocutor values unadulterated truth and understands the distinction between proper evidence and reasons for believing something, argument is pointless. Daniel Boorstin wrote that ..."The biggest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance; it is the illusion of having knowledge." Another statement that comes to mind is Charles Bukowski's. "The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence."
@mylord9340
@mylord9340 4 жыл бұрын
@Najma Khan what makes you think that I believe in the Christian superstition? Again the only point I made was that people should always be willing to question their beliefs. Isn't it curious that the religion given to you by your parents just happens to be the right one? If you want to believe that Muhammad's ideas came from a real god, fine. However, all leaders who want unquestioned obedience and all ideologies that tell you not to think for yourself or to question the ideology should send a red flag, a warning. Now if you believe that you should not question your religious beliefs, I am sorry for you but that is your right. However you should not then expect other religious people to question their beliefs and you should allow freedom of religion so that everyone can believe what they were brought up to believe. Christians have the truth, Muslims have the truth, Mormons have the truth, Hindus have the truth. Muslims should not do dawah and criticize other faiths. If you believe that your religious beliefs should not be questioned, then don't question other peoples' religious beliefs. Isn't that fair? I know it is said that truth will always conquer error but I don't think that is always so. False ideas can be very convincing and when those false ideas are protected from scrutiny, those false ideas can perpetuate for a long time. However, if you believe that your religious ideas are objectively true, then you should be able to logically defend them. If your belief system is based on shaky grounds I can understand that you would not want to question them. By the way, you don't need to get angry. If you disagree with my comment, that is all you have to say. It is a sign of weakness to get angry. I made a simple comment that leaders telling their followers not to think or question their religious beliefs is an attempt at controlling the minds of their followers. What would you say if you heard a Christian minister telling his or her congregation to stop thinking and to never question their Christian beliefs? What would you say about a Mormon minister telling his congregation not to question the beliefs of Mormonism? What would you say about a Hindu priest telling his followers to not question Hindu teaching, just accept it? If you are going to be consistent, then you should expect the same of other religious believers. They all should follow their respective religious beliefs without questioning. It would be hypocrisy to expect other people to question their inherited religions while you believe your religion of Islam should not be questioned.

@Najma Khan John Locke was a very important 17th century English philosopher . His ideas about religion and government influenced the development of the Western world and modern political philosophy. Locke wrote treatises about who should rule the people and what form of government was legitimate. He also developed ideas about what governments and people should do about the multiplicity of religious beliefs. About government Locke wrote in his "Two Treatises of Government" in 1689. At the time it was believed that rulers get their authority from a god and so it was the duty of people to obey those rulers. John Locke rejected the idea that any man, kings, priests, or prophets get divine authority to rule over others. A ruler is legitimate only if the people give him legitimacy. John Locke convincingly showed that the idea that any man could get their authority from god was a lie. Locke preferred the "Social Contract" theory and that it is the people, the governed, who submit voluntarily to governments, and that there should be no absolute submission to any ruler. The people should intentionally surrender to the ruler for the purpose that their natural rights would be secured. Those natural rights include personal freedom, right to property, and freedom of conscience and religion among others. The people possess those inalienable or natural rights that no ruler can take away legitimately. If a ruler became a tyrant depriving the governed of their natural rights, the people would have the right to withdraw their consent, overthrow the ruler, and start a new government. Locke's ideas on government went on to influence the structure of government in Western Europe and the U.S.A. Locke was an advocate of the separation of "church and state" as he reasoned that theocracies were a threat to human freedom and liberty. People should be free to practice what ever religion they fancied but that their religious beliefs should not influence government. John Locke also published "A Letter Concerning Toleration" in 1667. In Europe at the time sects of different religions were fighting and oppressing each other, each claiming to have the one true religion. Locke advocated freedom of belief and advocated for toleration based on 3 points. First, the many different religious beliefs should be tolerated because it was not possible to determine which if any of them are true. Whether Christianity, catholicism versus protestantism or Christianity versus islam, none could be determined to be true so all sects should be tolerated by the state. Every faith should be tolerated, Christianity, Islam, Ismailis, Shia, etc as long as they keep their religions to themselves. Locke reasoned that no one should or can be compelled against his or her conscience to believe something by use of violence and coercion. Locke wrote that the ultimate aim of the state or government was to preserve the peace in society where individuals can pursue and observe the religious beliefs of their preference without being a hindrance to others. It would certainly be a great improvement if predominantly Muslim countries could learn from John Locke and adopt his ideas for government. Separate Islam from politics, and allow freedom of religion, get rid of all Sharia. Glad to know that you appreciate John Locke's ideas.

@Najma Khan When Muhammad was without power, during the first 12 years of his preaching, he criticized the religions of the idol worshippers encouraging them to use their reason so as to discover the foolishness of their beliefs and practices. He told them that their idols were impotent, incapable of giving them provisions, and that the impotence of their idols should make them realize the error of their way. Muhammad told then that they were deaf and dumb if they did not use their reason. Then when Muhammad relocated to Medina, he criticized the religion of the Christians telling them that they were in error about the son of Mary. Muhammad commanded the Christians to rethink their beliefs to discover their error. Of course Muhammad didn't know about other religions in the world but whatever criticism he had of the polytheists, Jews, and Christians would apply to them also. Muhammad asked the Jews and Christians to produce proof and evidence if they were telling the truth. Muhammad demanded that the Jews and the Christians prove that their religious dogma was true. Now Najma, you seem like a knowledgeable follower of Muhammad. Why don't you prove to me that Muhammad was sent by a god. Just as Muhammad asked the Jews and Christians to provide evidence and proof that their religion was true, can you prove to me that Muhammad did not invent the religion that you follow. قُلْ هَاتُوا بُرْهَانَكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

When Yasir Qadhi talks about the three human "functions" (physical, spiritual, intellectual) it sounds like following Quran will make people live in a satisfied bubble and not want to change anything about society. There are a lot of things to change and a lot of things to reform, especially in Islam. It is important that we use our talents to better ourself and to better our society instead of acting like obedient sheep. Islam sometimes seems to go agianst human dignity on a very basic level. Suppression instead of development and unfolding what you can contribute to the world.

***** I doubt we are thinking about the same reform here, I think following the Quran letter by letter is exactly what you shouldn't do. It is this absolutism that is dangerous and backwards about Islam. The Quran, like all other scriptures, is a book written by human beings. It may be inspired by God, but it is not the word of God. The same is true for the Tora and the Bible. All religions are equal, you cannot claim you have the best one. We should try and search for the common ground in all religions instead of calling each other infidel. If God is great and beyond of what people can understand than interpretation is as close as we get to God. Fundamentalism is bad and harmful in all religions. Stop islamofascism.
@lineh.8531
@lineh.8531 9 жыл бұрын
***** You call Islam a "superior system of life". What exactly makes it superior? Wouldn't you have to know all other systems of life to make such a bold statement? "Qu'ran for 1400 years has challenged mankind together or alone to bring forth something like it, change it, or bring something better than it & never has a thing succeeded or came close." Really? How about the declaration of human rights? The work of philosophers and scientists? Don't you think they have been inspired by "god", too? Mankind has socially evolved in the last 1400 years, unfortunately Islam has not. That makes it a backward system of life, not a superior one. It is this dogmatic belief, that Quran is the perfect and only valid revelation of God combined with intolerance and arrogance towards other religions and cultures that creates the problem with Islam(ofascism). Do you believe Sharia law is "perfect"? That the word of a woman is worth half of the word of a man in court? That a woman can only inherit half of what a man can inherit? That a woman needs four male witnesses in order to prove she was raped? Do you think it is ok to rape your 9 year old child bride because Mohammed did the same? As long as you do not recognize that the Quran and the Hadith were written by humand beings (as were the Tora and the Bible) and are deeply rooted in the time and place they came into being, you are on the wrong path that leads away from the truth.

When the source of Islamic knowledge (mostly parents) use that exact knowledge against their own children to spiritually and emotionally and physically abuse them that's when the they start questioning their faith. I hope our scholars take this aspect into account and put parents in their place so that they stop becoming God to their own children.

@Najma Khan Sorry I have taken a break from you. I hope all is well with you. I still pray for you. I hope you and your family are well with the Covid-19 going around the World. God is our Refuge and He is our Healer. This Chapter is great prayers from the Book of Psalms (David) you can ask the Lord to reveal to you. Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment. Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have broken rejoice. Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be pleased with a burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. Do good to Zion in your good pleasure; build up the walls of Jerusalem; then will you delight in right sacrifices, in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on your altar. Psalm 51:1‭-‬19 ESV bible.com/bible/59/psa.51.1-19.ESV Luke wrote this in the Book of Acts. But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled. *Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago.* Moses said, ' *The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers. You shall listen to him in whatever he tells you. And it shall be that every soul who does not listen to that prophet shall be destroyed from the people.* ' And all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who came after him, also proclaimed these days. You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, 'And in your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.' God, having raised up his servant, sent him to you first, to bless you by turning every one of you from your wickedness." Acts 3:18‭-‬26 ESV bible.com/bible/59/act.3.18-26.ESV

Christian teachings that our basic instincts are a sin punishable by eternity of torture is grotesque psychological abuse. It has also done exactly nothing to address the problem in a reasonable and practical way. The church has lost all credibility to make ANY pronouncements about sexuality.
