I am ready to understand and apply your strategies and concepts. I have failed to memorize from the study guide and what I have learned in college. I used my knowledge, yet The test was worded differently from what I learned in college texts. I graduated with my Master's degree in Early Childhood Education as an Honor student. Can you help me to pass the Michigan Elementary Teaching certification test called the MTTC test?

It is not that it is too hard, it’s just the questions should be posed for grad level teaching. I know, I know, the questions about a math teacher teaching 6th grade level…but as anxious as I am, math teacher strategies are not my wheelhouse. Just an FYI, I have a master’s degree in my content that I teach, passed the GRE…and alas, here I am. I have all certifications except the permanent professional teaching certification. Life is funny!

I find it funny how, as an educator, you are supposed to provide feedback to students on where they went wrong, but when you take this test, they refuse to show you what you got wrong. They don’t want you to improve; they want you to keep paying and failing again and again. Nothing on this test is useful in the actual classroom.

@@TheLearningLiaisons after doing more research, i think i’m going to go with you guys. You’re right it’s a speed bump. I thought a test like this would be the capstone to my expertise on the subject. Now i realize its just another example of a corporate entity profiting off of the anguish and frustration of teachers. Only options are to get thru it or give up, and i’m not done trying yet.

These test are nothing more than money makers for the businesses that provide them. I challenge any state to present its pass/fail rate of these exams just to show you how hard and worthless they really are. They’re nothing more than a fleecing that’s costing hard working teachers precious time, lots of money and energy... and all this after they have proven they have what it takes to stay in the classroom. I say get rid of them altogether and replace them with certification classes. The cost could be $250-300 for 3 months of which afterwards, a teacher earns their certification. The test prove nothing. One could still pass and possess no ability to relate to students.

@@TheLearningLiaisons Sigh....Again, the “bump” in the road needs to go away. I’m a professional graphic designer and artist and I’m struggling like hell to pass these exams. I know people that have graduated from art school that cannot pass these exams. The problem with my exam is that art is too broad of a field to demand that teachers know everything about every discipline and media in it. For example, you may have a sculptor who doesn’t paint, a animator that has never done Photograpy, a photographer that has never worked with clay...etc. then there’s the historical depth...the exam I took feels like an episode of Jeopardy. What period am studying? Byzantine, Renaissance, Romantic or Medieval perhaps? How about movements...Surrealism, Neoclassical or Impressionist? It’s just too much to demand. And here is the real killer, 20 of the 80 questions on these exams are only there for research purposes. What happens if I get those correct yet still fail all because they were not counted? You see my point now. These test are pure BS. I’ve been teaching successfully for 5 years with excellent performance reviews, built a great reputation with students and parents alike and now because of dubious exam, I find myself being on the edge of being removed from the classroom. I’m sorry, but I can’t in all honesty agree to what your doing. I don’t knock the hustle, but it’s only helping the system to rip honest hard working teachers off. ETS has a current revenue of 1.4 Billion dollars. It’s a shame they’ve gained that by making exams that THEY KNOW is too hard to pass just so they can drain teachers even further. It’s a sickening system that needs to go. Like I said earlier, Replace the testing with certification classes and this should solve the headache. Plus the money that teacher pay for the certification classes can go to the state rather than a greedy corporation.

What I want to know is why we even have to take certification exams to begin with. it's not enough that we pass university level coursework covering the same material??? And then it's not even the same across the USA. The system is a joke.

These same tests are putting thousands of teachers already working for 10+ years out of a job because they can't pass a portion of the new state mandate. When over 50% don't pass the first time and 25% of that group never pass it, it's clear it's not designed for you to pass. That you felt the need to clarify this issue should tell you there's a problem

RA VF while there are some merits to your comment, you have to realize that some of these exams test skills that kids are learning in school currently, and there are many variables as to why aspiring teachers aren’t successful. However, I’ve learned from doing this 7 days a week that many go down the wrong route if prepping. However, there are certain obstacle also that cause teachers to fail as well. When you get to the exams that concern the “how to teach/assess” type questions, some test takers haven’t been down the road enough when it comes to the pedagogy and they also try to memorize concepts. These exams are all about application. It can be done and we see it all the time...when the mindset it changed. Thanks for your comments!

The Learning Liaisons, Inc. it’s all politics. I have no issues with paying for an education. I was just answering your question with what I believe to be the real reason why certification exams are so hard. I’m thankful that you are available and have been able to help me succeed, however the fact that you’re needed in order to pass these tests is the root of the problem. These tests are not authentic and are completely against my philosophy as an educator. Take for instance, the English 5-9 that has a 32% passing rate. That is ridiculous!!!

Yes they are hard!! About 25% of what I studied in school was on the test. It is ridiculous other professions are geared towards information that was studied.

I have taken the test and failed twice. I have anxiety; I actually wrote discussion questions for Norton; I thought I was not an idiot, but right now, I have a pointy dunce cap on my head because I lost my contract because I have everything in place except the Florida teacher certification exam.

I am licensed to teach 8 different subjects. I just keep adding endorsements because the tests are so easy for me. Of course, I am an excellent reader and writer with superior critical thinking skills. Many people can’t read effectively and can’t discriminate between answers that are valid or spurious. If people rely upon professors to provide them with information and do not have an intrinsic desire to read and learn, they will often perform poorly on standardized tests.

I studied for my bachelor's in German and minored in Education at the University of North Texas. I was never told about our content area exam. I studied and did well in all my German and Education classes. But was nowhere near prepared for the actual certification test. The exam timing was the first part that made the test difficult, the second part was the level of German on the exam was far beyond anything I experienced in college. this being said, the level of German taught was far below the level at the High school. The Test far exceeds the level required for high school and College German. Had someone at anyone of the advisor meeting told me about how hard the certification was for native speakers, I would have changed my degree.

I believe we do not have good educators in colleges anymore. Jr colleges are not listed in Texas nor have to be registored at the state level. So, Anyone the deans feel that have enough knowledge can get the job. Yes, this is in Texas, but At University you must have passed all teaching skills to be a Professor. Thats a big difference!

The problem with the math exams is that they require both content knowledge AND engineering-problem solving skills from the subject with widest range of topics than all other content areas ie. history, special ed, or ESL, which are all pretty much set. Additionally, the math exam questions are enhanced, college-level questions. But worst, the exam must be taken under the same conditions for all persons pursing the math endorsement like a 22 y/o math-major teaching candidate vs a 40 y/o special ed teacher pursing the math endorsement in order to avoid being laid off. Most content area exams require literacy thinking skills, which all teachers possess, but the math one requires engineering problem solving skills and abstract visualization, which not every teacher is capable of or capable to the expected level especially at an older age. Yes, teachers should be qualified for STEM endorsements, but there are no accommodations for older teachers with generally cognitive decline or less exercise of quantitative problem skills who must earn STEM endorsements for their schools esp in inner cities.

I have MTLE's here in Minnesota. I graduated with honors, did exceptional on my high stakes written Ed TPA student teaching document, and received exemplary grades from my university supervisor and participating teacher. I taught my first year in the pandemic, under a 1 year exception, and worked my tail off evenings and weekends just to face licensing issues because of one timed content area test I have not been able to pass. I love my job and my students, but I'm almost ready to go drive truck again. 😞

My daughter just took praxis 2 for the 3rd time and finally passed. She passed everything else 1st time graduated magna cum lauda. Listening to her it's basically "luck", the last one she didn't even study. And didn't finish her test time ran out, and she almost maxed out. The others she studied her tail off finished the test and failed. It's just luck, or lol someone on the other side saying, they paid enough lol

Regards, Im in Florida Public School. I already took EPI program Courses and I apply for the Professional Eduactor Test Waiver approved in Florida in July 2023. to qulify I must do professional eduaction competency program specified in Section1012.56(6)(f). F.S to be eligible to WAIVER the Professional Education test. I cant find which courses these are since they tell me that they( I mean the BUREAU of EDUCATION) what are they are the same ones that I took in the EPI program but that the EPI program is not useful for me to request the WAIVER. What courses I should take? I don't understand,

I don’t get upset, I am glad you said I was studying the wrong way. I am going through an Alt program for the teXes exam and this will be my third attempt. I wish the alt program certification program told me this. It's bad when you pass a practice Exam and they pretty much Guarantee you that you're going to pass the exam. Good thing I am only doing the concrete sections.

Im super nervous! I have my NY Content Specialty Test tomorrow for Biology and I just wanna pass and be done. I already took the Praxis II for Biology in Connecticut but I am looking to be NY certified as well. I just really am nervous bc you never know what they are going to ask or how hard they are going to make the questions. I am praying it isn't hard!

So basically memorisation isn't enough, you need broader conceptual understanding and be able to apply it. That took 10 seconds to type you took 15 mins. Tip - direct clear and concise.

I realise that being American you want everything with a smile and cherry on top and a have a nice day y'all approach - I am British, we don't demean ourselves with such faux niceness. Same here over 1200 dollars that’s not including all prep exams hints all that it’s crazy. I had to petition to even do my student teaching currently I graduated I fall but I’m not even certified as I’m struggling with my test.

I have found teachers that have difficulty passing these tests in the state of Texas usually are not great readers.

They need to make them tricky and deceptive with the phrases to use because that’s literally what they get paid for. Is you taking the tests so they’re going to keep high standards so people keep failing them the only reason education perpetuates itself is because it keeps pumping money back into itself.

@@TheLearningLiaisons What can I do with you that can help me , as the test is a normal Master Educator book. The test is through PSI but has nothing to do with hair. It is more about classroom colors that are best to use, semi circle vs. University theater style learning. Rubics, Likert scales, and behaviors in the classroom. How to hand" AKA Billy" is being loud during class. How do we react towards that "class-clown" attention seeker. I have seen the computer tests, and they are grammatically wrong. I'm testing next week after a year of being on hold. Now, Texas will not have anymore instructors. Our governor abolished it two months ago. I am bummed about going through class to become an Instructors. We are still going to be instructors, how can students learn what to study on or learn how to cut hair and pass their tests? it is like the blind leading the blind. You tube is not correct for teaching hair cuts. Many learn hands on in this profession. Lord, teaching is so under rated anymore I gather. I am upset after I spent all the money then still can't pass. I have 40 years as a Barber I now want to teach.

Test takers with strong reading ability rarely fail these tests. Education students at the universities, on average, are the lowest students on campus. This is unfortunate but it is reality.
