I never understood racism. It’s hating a group of people based where their from, something you can’t control. It’s saying that “you are a bad person because your skin looks like that” it doesn’t make sense. It’s wrong and I don’t know why people continue this.

Most of us "blackies" are very educated. However we have to be more than that to be human.

I’m spiraling. I always used to think that bigotry came from small mindedness and a lack of education. But recently I’ve met some people who are very smart, creative thinkers who are well educated, but have said the most bigoted things imaginable. I can’t wrap my head around how or why. It makes me feel sad because before I could always get over bigotry, holding my head high, thinking that they’re just dumb and small minded. But this has been challenged. I can’t understand why they are bigoted.

I feel genuinely concerned about my own world view. During last new year, a person of color, whom I had never seen before, comes up to me to shake my hand and give best wishes. I don't want to shake hands. He called me racist. I don't want to shake hands with anyone, whom I don't know. Being called a racist, hurt. I don't understand why 'blacks' call themselves black. I don't call myself white. I'm a shade of brown, light brown at that. Other people have a darker tan of brown. We are all shades of brown. I'm a native Dutch, I don't join Dutch clubs to celebrate how caucasian we are. What the hell are we talking about. I don't give a shit. A friend asked me once "Whom do you want to trade places with ?" and I answered 'John Williams' (Dutch TV presenter) She : "But ....... he is black !" Me : "......................" I feel a target for anti-racist & anti-supremacist groups, just because I'm born to Dutch parents. Discrimination is not a thing between dark brown and light brown. it is a thing between people attacking something that is different on the other person. Be that skin color, red hair, cross eyed, large nose, tall underweight skinny posture, anything different and putting them away as 'different' and therefore not worthy. Every victim of a bully, feels discrimination at heart. All those people thinking it doesn't happen in their vicinity, can you actually, with a straight face, claim there was no 'black sheep' back in your school days or at work ? None ? Are you absolutely sure ? If there is a group of people sitting together and one co-worker sits apart from the rest, why is that ? Bullies need to realize, that they are not 'just having fun with someone for 2 minutes'. That victim is having those encounters all day long by multiple other people. When you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. For me it stopped when I planted my fist on the nose of one of those bullies. Say it started around age 8, it took 20 years before I hit back.

Coming from a predominantly homogeneous society, I didn't realize what racism actually was until I moved to the US and married an African American guy. I was shocked to find out that people can get looks and "special" attitude just because of their skin colour, that police might pull you over on the freeway more frequently if you are not white. I was confused at the fact of being called Caucasian since I'm not coming from the Caucasus region. And many many more. The fact is that people all over the world need to get educated and treat everyone equally. We shouldn't single out one race over the other; in many homogeneous societies, if you look different than the majority of people, you might experience racism as well. In certain areas of the US, racism is geared towards Europeans, Asians, Mexicans and etc. I think we tend to attach stereotypes to nationalities and ethnicities, and, unfortunately, based on these stereotypes, people tend to act in a weird way to one another. The key is to respect every human being no matter of color, race, or religion.

I was looking for a very a smart talk about how early childhood or familiy pre-conditioning effects how a person views others of a different race in a negative light. None of us white, black, Asian, Hispanic are born genetically with a negative view of anyone really. Even at age 1, 2, 3,4,5,6,7.8.9 does a human being have a socially conditioned view of ethnicity or skin color. Either good or bad. So at what point does it happen? But no i get yet another black person feeding the fire. I grew up near Baltimore a city 75% black. I was one of a few white men in High school and i was remined of that each day. After i moved to a city that was majority white i started dating a black women and we have be together for some time now. She went to a h.s/college that was mostly white and says that even though her white girlfriends never bought up race its something that makes her feel different in a room filled with white people. She feels that at any moment she could say something that will further cement the stereotypical believe of a black woman being loud or aggressive . I tell her just because you feel this uncomfortable feeling doesnt mean that its "racism". I feel super uncomfortable around her familiy even after 4 years. They mention my " whiteness" a lot and it beings up feeling from h.s/college that made me feel very much unworthy bc i was white. Was i get told 1000 times on social media that black peolpe cant be racist . But i know its not coming from a place of hate, even if at times the slavery argument or the racial imbalance of incarcerated of black men come up. I can say the same stuff up peolpe say that slavery wasnt my fault( It wasnt) that it was a very long time ago. That many black men cant get credit from the physically labor that their ancestors did when they themselves have never picked up a object heavier than 10 pounds. I have some views of specific behavior some not all peolpe of color do, that are in theory racist. But its not bc i havent experienced the other side of pre-judgement based on skin color. Its not even based on skin color at all times. Its based on behavior, clothes, eye contact, and how aggressive you are to me. I'm trying to let go of my bad past with certain moments of racial indifferences. It doesnt do me any good to hold to them. I sleep next to a black women each night and she her mother 4 times a week. I dont have any family of my own so If i want to feel part of the familiy i have to make a honest attempt to be apart of the family. Its on me to feel comfortable around anybody and not anybody else.

Name calling based on people’s appearance should obviously be condemned. But I am not convinced about the overall tone about “racism”, “systemic racism”, or “institutional racism”. Judging by the amount of noise that’s being made one would thing “racism” in societies is increasing. I don’t think that’s the case. In an increasingly “diverse” society the talk of “racism” has become a tool to enforce social harmony. That’s how citizens are taught how to think and what to notice and what to ignore. We are at a point where a movement proclaiming to be progressive has become an opponent of science and biology in order to advance certain beliefs, dogmas, social ideologies and agendas. That’s why “racism” is now more a weapon than reality.

Racism is poorly understood. Actually it's very common because the human race did not evolve to be mixed up with different types like you see now in the West. For thousands of years people have been surrounded by only their own types. In somewhere like the UK, especially in London, Brits resort to "racist" feelings because they resent the fact that they have become a minority. It's important to try to understand the thinking that breeds a "racist" sentiment. It isn't necessary a dislike of the race. It's more commonly due to the fact that people are patriotic and do not want their own country to be changed into something which is alien to it. Eastern European countries are good examples of this patriotism.

The problem is by getting fixated on the words, it doesn't address the root of racism and why it comes about. We get too offended over what is a natural human way of being - so until we can stop shaming each other for being racist, can we actually understand it and fight it on an even playing field. Edit: Also, by only listening to victims, we learn nothing of actual racism - only it's consequences and effects... Instead we'd learn a lot more to hear from ex-racists(or somebody conscience of their potential racist motivations) who can explain how they have come to understand their past racist convictions.

I don't know much about it but if I'm not mistaken a 2012 study claimed that the combination of low IQ and social conservatism was the biggest predictor of prejudice (this is rooted in projection- I don't think everyone is racist deep down inside but I do think some prejudice is a normal human instinct that is especially strong in times of high stress or at least social conflict with different people, although there are other natural instincts that conflict with that and the prejudice instinct can be controlled and desensitized with certain experiences. Some people don't seem to take the idea of subtle racism seriously, and I understand why since a lot of what people claim to be 'microaggressions' or subtle racism is purely interpretative and rooted in their own hyper-mistrust and critical attitude toward X people, but I do think it's common. It doesn't seem like it takes a lot to bring this out in relatively normal people, including some of the most 'liberal' people or people who are very vocal in condemning the prejudices they would never express overtly). Normally I would take any research in psychology with a grain of salt (it's not an empirical science) so I'm being very deliberate in saying that it's 'predictor' and simply noting a correlation. I can concede that in some sense minorities are more vulnerable to racism (that would include white and non-black minorities in black neighbourhoods, cities and countries) but I don't agree with the narrative that racism is a uniquely white phenomenon and blacks / p.o.c don't routinely express prejudice on the basis of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation etc. (or actively harm people on the basis of racial, ethnic and etc. prejudice) or that anti-white prejudice, anti-gay prejudice, anti-immigrant prejudice, the prejudice p.o.c have against each other based on race and ethnicity and nationality etc. isn't the same basic concept / psychology. I wouldn't be surprised if white North Americans or whites from traditionally Anglo-Saxon countries (or even white Westerners generally) were on average less racist than p.o.c although I wouldn't necessarily assume that (I definitely think it's less socially acceptable for whites to express overt racial prejudice or ethnic prejudice - at the very least if we're talking about non-white ethnic groups, as a general cultural norm). Noting patterns and forming predictions based on them is a normal part of human nature (and animal nature in general I could argue), it helps us to survive and learn, but I think the logical flaw in racism (which would relate to IQ) is in not being able to handle the complexities that come with taking people as individuals and relying on a simple, convenient, emotional heuristic when dealing with people in a threatening world that we overgeneralize (ie. past experience with lions was violent so assume lions in future are violent, there might not be time to get to know individual lions or come to a conclusion about John Doe based on interactions with or observations of him specifically without preconceived notions based on one or some of the groups he belongs to so just immediately assume he's threatening. I could better word this, some generalizations are also more or less consistent and humans are rational agents even if, like lions, we have certain predictable instincts. Also, there can be a sense of safety that comes with familiar people. I also think part of the problem is in not being able to differentiate between traits, behaviors etc. and the nature of what makes someone a member of group X if belonging to group X actually does correlate with those traits, behaviors etc). I don't assume that I don't have a low IQ and I can see how linking IQ with prejudice can be condescending and there are things that might correlate with higher IQ that have nothing to do with an inability to think logically or being less cognitively developed (like a preference for classical music and I don't care, classical music is not my favorite genre. I definitely like some of it but most of it, especially baroque music and classical music proper, is not that emotionally moving, it generally has never triggered deep euphoria in me. Interestingly a preference for opera apparently does not correlate with higher IQ even though it's considered 'high culture') but I have to assume that has something to do with why it correlates with a lower IQ. I can see why the in-group loyalty and nationalism / patriotism that tends to be associated with conservatism would apply but I have a hard time believing that liberals have higher IQs, on average, or are any less prejudiced (generally as opposed to being less prejudiced against specific groups). This might be a potential low IQ cope but I also have a hard time believing that IQ tests for all intents and purposes measure a general intelligence but that's another topic. Toward the end it seems to me as if you're wrongly conflating a lack of consideration of someone else's point of view or perspective or situation with an actual negative feeling (I also think you can have mistrust and hyper-apprehension without negative feelings toward a person but the negative feelings often imply that), which is what 'prejudice' implies to me, or even lack of empathy, toward people who are different in whatever respect.

Fear and Control is what causes people to be racist. When you have a fear that you don’t know or can’t understand someone because of their culture or race that is fear. Control is another reason. In most cases it’s the dominant race, educational and financial class who wants control. Like in India most people are of the race same but they’re racist towards others because of their educational or financial class. We see the same in many African countries. It’s not always about race but it’s most related to race.

It's used to divide culture easily for some people. For example, in Liberia you _can not_ ever be a citizen unless you are black or born from a former citizen. Note the difference? You can immigrate as a black person but if you don't meet their prescribed ratio of blackness you will never be a citizen by law. People talk about systematic racism, well, that is an example of it that the international community is strangely silent on.

Simply spoken, racism is that of ignorance. You do not know someone, or understand someone or what they're doing ect. Information is power. Racism is dissolved by asking questions. Understanding that others have a different view.

Humans are easily spooked, I think. People like the known and the familiar. When we face something different and don’t know instinctively how to behave, we get uncomfortable, unease and anxious.

The worse weapon of racism is when you can’t get the job or flat/house despite having the same kind of qualifications or when one marginalised or small ethnic group will turn against another (Jews vs. Palestinians, South Asians vs. Africans, light vs. dark). Calling a nasty slur, it’s not polite in public but actions (violence, economic control, sexual control) speak louder than words.

Well I believe it’s what people see on tv.

In general terms most people will treat you with respect if you treat them with respect. When someone of my race is a dumb fuck I dont have a problem saying so. When you stick up for and make excuses for dirtbag behavior you lose crediability. Its really that simple. Most of the time there is a cause and effect relationship between HOW you conduct yourself and how others act toward you. Its not really a hard concept to grasp.

Personally I think racism should be legalised, sticks and stones is the analogy here, why is it that people get offended by words, you can call me anything you want, I know who I am and what I am worth so getting upset by what anyone calls me just shows weakness and doubt in your worth and honestly is it really worth the effort to engage with a person because they have had derogatory remarks towards you, defending yourself against what someone who doesn’t matter to you is only making things worse and pointing out that they could be right about you

Look people. We are born into this world for some meticulous reason that can not be explained and we will never know what are we here for and why we are who we become. We are born to die. What exist in between is choices which can very well be that so called secret or key to life. I say we need to just stop fighting it and stop discussing the matter because human behavior is limitless. We need to realize until the end of time, our behavior is forever. We should just let things go its course. We are not programmed like algorithms in a computer at birth. Regardless of how we are taught as minors, we choose who we are at some point, rather if you choose to be a saint or a monster. We have choices, the key to life. Racism is a choice. Thats life until we die.
