Team Fortress 2 has been around for almost as long as I have, and I’ve had some of my best memories playing this 20-year-old game. Over the past few months, the game has come under attack from a massive swarm of botters and hackers - making TF2 borderline unplayable for most casual players. This has been happening for a while now and the community has grown sick and tired of Valve’s inaction in solving the issue. This has culminated in the #SaveTF2 or #FixTF2 movement which kickstarted on the 3rd of June. From then till now, over 330 thousand players from all around the globe have thrown their support behind TF2 and collectively demanded that Valve do something about TF2’s bot crisis.
Seeing so many people sign the petition and share their stories on KZfaq, I feel like I had to share my perspective as well. Beyond sharing my experience with TF2, I also attempt to share why I’m so passionate about TF2 and potentially shed some light on why so many worldwide feel the same way as I do about a 20-year-old game with dancing cartoon characters and hats.
Thankfully - Valve seems to have listened to the overwhelming voices of the TF2 Community and implemented a massive ban wave just a few days back. This has done wonders for the Casual TF2 experience, as I have not run into a single bot across 5 casual games. While it’s a great start and has averted the crisis of TF2 becoming unplayable, TF2 desperately needs support, updates and new content to stay relevant. It is my wish that TF2 stays alive for years to come, but this all depends on Valve and all we can do is wait and see how things pan out. Thanks for watching!
