High elf. Wood elf. Dark elf. Sea elf. Eladrin. On and on the elven subraces go. In this video, I embark on a quest to discover why elves in D&D have a seemingly endless amount of subraces. This question is larger than just Dungeons & Dragons, it connects to so many RPGs and fantasy novels, and even to history long past. From the earliest days of D&D, through the current 5e, both official settings and homebrew are brimming with all kinds of elves. Why is that?
