A Dominion-Pyandonea alliance would be the Elder Scrolls version of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. The ideologically opposed autocrats would work together when convenient but stab the other in the back as soon as an opportunity arrives.

If you guys are curious, there is a side lands mod project that has associations with Beyond Skyrim called Nirn Uncharted. Each team is making a place outside of Tamriel (not akavir) like Pyandonea, Esroniet, Systres and Pankor, and Alinor (alinor is currently on Hiatus). While the projects are still on their 2D and early 3D phases, I still want to send the word out.

IMO, Elnofey are shapeless animal spirits that were formed to Elves. Hence why Khajiit and Bosmer came from the same spirit type of south-west Tamriel and why someone might think Khajiit came from "elf stock" but, technically the khajiit were created before bosmer were even pointy eared people because they became elves AFTER Yffre was gifted the ability to give them a permanent shape from Nirni as she was convinced that Azura tricked her by making the Khajiit from her "children".

tbh, I've thought this from the "sea elves" inception. It fits perfectly, I mean what other Mer fits perfectly with the islander, coastal, pirate theme, being the elf opposition to the redguard, than the Maomer that were added in ESO? The alternative is that the left handed are all dead and these are completely different but, we know bethesda/elder scrolls writing is full of combacks and returns. They even already have an explanation for not being in other games but, possibly existing in present times. The way Maomer are written seems to have full intentions that they are a lost group of Elves from the sea, which fits into Yokudan and also gives an Atlantis feel, which I can see Beth doing for the elves, an advanced ancient society in the water.

I find the Maomer to be super interesting, and I hope we get to see some of them in TESVI. I doubt they will be a playable race, given how isolationist they are and how little info about them is concrete, but I'd be happy enough to see them as NPCs. To encounter them riding their sea serpents would be pretty cool. Hopefully, they wouldn't all be hostile, but some would be willing to converse.

What mod did you use for the non-ESO Maormer? Lost Races of Aetherius adds playable Maormer, along with Falmer, Dwemer, Ayleid, and Tsaesci. And the Maormer would be exactly the sort of wild card to undermine the Thalmor's attempts to conquer Tamriel. The Empire may be crumbling, but only a fool fights a war on two fronts. There could even be a plot/quest about finding and returning King Orgnum's Coffer so he can take on the Thalmor with his fleet directly (and the Thalmor are at a disadvantage due to not having either the Psijics or the Empire to help against the Maormer fleets)

I'd love to see the Maormer as a playable race in TESVI. I feel like in general they and the Reachmen (if Bethesda really decided to emphasize them as their own people) would be the easiest for playable race expansions. Also, is that thumbnail a modded Skyrim armor? It looks awesome!
@FyrsaVT
@FyrsaVT 10 ай бұрын
ESO has done a great job of emphasising Reach culture, and that the Forsworn of Skyrim are merely the sole survivors of Ulfric's crusade. Seeing how the surviving clans west of the mountains interact with Bretons is an interesting prospect. Perhaps I'm setting my hopes too high, but new playable races would definitely draw people back into the series. Maormer seem less likely, though they are known to scout the more southern parts of the region. Them taking advantage of the Thalmor-Alik'r conflict to gain a foothold on Tamriel could be a fun concept. My personal favourite, though unlikely a playable race, would be to see a more developed Falmer culture, expanding westward from the Forgotten Vale.

Very interesting take on Satakal. I can see it being a lost piece of mythology. If the Maomer helped the Yokudans and learn of the sea to leave the island and their destruction. When a race makes exodus, a lot of their history and culture get left behind. Hammerfell is one of the most political provinces of Tamriel. I can easily seeing how some of the upper echelon would want to rewrite the narrative of a Mer helping them.

I remember reading a non- canon book called "Raid on Pyandonea" in the SHOTN mod for Morrowind. It has an interesting interpretation: King Orgnum is, in fact, a title - he gets killed near the beginning, and a new one rises up and takes the mantle. Orgnum also appears to be able to transform into a serpent and use his Sight the same way the Nords use Voice to manipulate the rules of nature.
@gabriellaburke6915

What I'm wondering is how well serpent magic works on other reptiles. It would be quite a shock if the Maormer were to suddenly attempt to control Argonians or the like. The only issues I can think of that would make this more difficult would be the fact that Argonians are likely more intelligent than the sea serpents the Maormer regularly manipulate, thus making them more difficult to control, and the fact that the Hist already has a strong influence over the minds of the Argonians. Regardless, this does not seem like it would be the most absurd thing for the Maormer to attempt, given their great understanding of magic

Interestingly enough, the cult of Diagna originated in Yokuda during the "Twenty Seven Snake Folk Slaughter". Diagna was also said to be the deity that was instrumental in the Redguards war and eventual victory over the Left Handed Elves and looking at how close Yokuda was to Pyandonea I doubt those "snake folk" were Tsaesci which leaves the Moamer being the race that fits that description of "snake folk" the most. So I do think its is likely that the Left Handed Elves were a offshoot of Moamer.

If Orgnum gets younger with time doesn't that mean that eventually he will become child and thus less powerful, than he used to be? Perhaps his best chance to defeat Altmer was early on, when he was old and wise. I do appreciate those Elder Scrolls myths where gods look like squabbling nobles, perhaps from a previous kalpa, who just became creators of the new kalpa and brought in all of they old grudges and aliances into the new world.

The theory of Satakal being a corrupt memory of Orgnum from the period before the Ehlnofey War is a very fascinating one which I had not heard before, by the way. Very interesting speculation, even if the lack of additional texts to help build up a proper foundation for it makes it a bit tenuous.

Not gonna lie, if the Thalmor could, even if just for a moment, look past the prejudice (difficult to say the least), they would be wise to ally with the Maormer, just as they did in the 2nd Aldmeri Dominion, in order to bring an end to the Empire. It wasn't just Altmer, but also Maormer fleets that were decimated when the Numidium came and created a devastating cataclysmic event upon the Summerset Isles, and many Pyandonean ships were likely lost in the defense of Summerset's shores. If the Altmer could focus most of its power in its land assault, and let the Maormer handle the Fleet movements accordingly, they'd be able to give the Empire hell.

The Elder Scrolls community *indeed* is far too keen to listen to the very obvious ideological corruption and bias in Altmeri accounts of history, and it's good to see someone who is willing to acknowledge that we should be hesitant to take their accounts at face value. (Also, yes, I agree that the Falmer are most likely the most direct descendants of the Old Ehlnofey, culturally speaking, and likely actually inherited a lot of their pre-existing cities and magical artifacts, considering the myths seem to suggest the Ehlnofey Wars' final battles [or at least the most intense fighting] occurred along the Atmora-Skyrim border region, and that this is likely where Lorkhan fell in battle. It would be rather simple for the remnants of Auri-El and Trinimac's army to then settle down in those lands they had just fought a victorious war over-- though it will likely have been the case that this had to occur after a journey to the West in order to observe Convention, at least for some of the loyal followers, who will have wanted to follow their gods to the site of Adamantia after the battle, though obviously the "timing" of all of this is somewhat muddled by the nature of the Dawn.) Regarding your chart, though: I do not believe it is correct to actually have the Chimer diverging after the discovery of Summerset. The Velothi Exodus strikes me as much more likely to have occurred as a very early split off from Falmer society, just after they had settled in Skyrim under the leadership of Trinimac and Auri-El. The real issue is that, with Trinimac still being alive and being a leader of their people, and with the war having just been won against Lorkhan, there is no reasonable scenario where he actually ends up traveling with the proto-Altmer to Summerset, staying there for presumably thousands of years, during which the location of the original Aldmeri homeland (Tamriel) is lost to the people, only to be found by Topal the Pilot, triggering the Velothi to want to split off and take up a new cultural identity, pilgrim-style, and get chased by the living god across the continent, until some sort of confrontation presumably happens in Skyrim, considering the Orsimer spread across the Skyrim-High Rock-Hammerfell region and presumably would have had to have originated somewhere around there. No: especially given Topal the Pilot already reported Orsimer being in the Iliac Bay, no. The Chimer and Orsimer most likely emerged in extremely short order after the Merethic era began, both having come from Falmer populations that were the remnants of the Old Ehlnofey who still remained with their gods after the conclusion of Convention, while those earliest of ancestors still strode upon the face of Nirn. The Altmer stories simply appropriate history that they were not witness to, because they were too busy being stranded on an island chain that had most likely broken off of Tamriel during the Ehlnofey Wars. They may or may not have even sailed there to begin with, depending on whether they *actually* fled the Ehlnofey Wars as their history seems to suggest (fleeing the destruction of Aldmeris [Tamriel] as some great disaster [gods fighting and breaking off parts of the continent in a great cataclysm]), or they were simply left behind and are a remnant of the Old Ehlnofey army that got lost in the chaos of the grand scale destruction and warfare of the Dawn conflict.

To be honest I don’t see it, maybe as the biggest DLC for TES VI it would make sense but the Thalmor situation needs to be resolved. What I think they’re going to do in TES VI is let you chose any side you want, even an independent high rock/hammerfell but the canon ending will be that the Thalmor and Empire both lose at the same time. The reason being is that this current empire is essentially destined to fail and the Thalmor are not built to last either since they look down on their Khajiiti and Bosmeri allies. What I think is going to happen is that the canon ending will be basically that of the battle of glenumbria moors. The dominion is utterly crushed in the final battle but the empire loses so many troops that it was basically a Pyrrhic victory and their military utterly collapses. This would not immediately reflect in the game, and the main general of the empire similar to a general tullius type of character would say “we lost countless men but the dominion threat is null, we have some rebuilding to do” that never gets done and the canon result is an independent hammerfell, balfiera, high rock, and orsinium with Bretons, Direnni, Orcs, Reachmen, etc all sharing power until a new empire arises. In TES VI we should get a spinoff made by Bethesda themselves in the early eras to hold us over until TES VII which will be Todd’s last game

I've had my fingers crossed for a while, hoping that Zenimax gives us playable Maormer in ESO. In my opinion, they are the only race that would make any sense if they add a new playable race. They could give us a story tie in and let us go to Pyandonea. It would be awesome.

You know, listening to the Storm Magic section made something occur to me: It seems like it might be the case that the Maormer have some sort of interaction and possibly trade relation with the people of Akavir. In particular, I would guess that they probably have some sort of kindred relationship with the Saesci, and if I'm being honest, I think that would actually go a long way to explaining the failure of the invasion by Uriel Septim V against that people's lands. The unexplained, shocking changes to the weather that the snake men of Akavir greatly benefited from could be pretty easily answered by the Saesci having learned to do so via cultural exchange with the Maormer over time. That campaign seems to have seen weather manipulation occurring in a slightly different way than the people of Pyandonea tend to use it, but that makes some sense insofar as Akavir is a place which presumably has far more land territory than the Maormer's home; thus leading to innovations the sea elves wouldn't naturally come to, themselves.

Unlikely, as they are from Summerset/Aldmeris, while the Tsaesci are from Akaviri However, there may be a connection between them and the Lefthanded Elves/Yokudan as the Sea Elves worship Satakal -- the Snake God.
@idipped2521

@@badluck5647 I highly doubt that as well but at least it’s plausible. The most fun way to think of the elder scrolls universe is to think about all of the things that happen on Tamriel that we don’t hear about or on Nirn in general. I’m sure Maormer and Tsaesci hypothetically have interacted before, but I mean it would have to be the most badass of the badass of Maormer to make it to Akavir and actually be accepted into their society to learn whatever they were going to learn. It would have to be somebody on the level of the nerevarine essentially. The same with the Tsaesci going to Pyandonea

The Maormer really should be playable in 6. The last time we got new playable races was the orcs and Imperials, and that was all the way back in TES 3. Making them a playable race would simply offer so many new character opportunities, as well as developers a chance to explore how NPCs would react to a PC that is wholly alien.

Hot take: The "pure falmers" are actually aldmers And the "monstrified falmers" are the real snow elves with it's adaptation rushed by the dwemers. And the wispmother is the original form of the mer, so the dwemer were actually experimenting with rushing and reverting elven evolution with the powers of tonal magic and the heart of lorkhan.

Great video, Scott. The Maomer are quite fascinating. If your theory is proven to be true (and I truly hope it is, even if just a small part of it), then it looks like the Altmer will have some serious explaining to do. We know how the Maomer feel about the Altmer, but I am curious how they feel about the other Elven races, as well as the human ones....? I would love to see more about the Maormer - both in FudgeMuppet videos and in future TES games - as a playable race. They are right up there with the Snow Elves (tied), being my favorite races in the games. The Bosmer are a very close second favorite. Thanks for doing a video on the Maomer.
