I absolutely love multiplayer cards. For some reason, they're EXTREMELY affordable compared to the regular base cards and all star cards of the same players. Will they always be this cheap? Will they potentially skyrocket in price? It's certainly possible, but unlikely, after being significantly more affordable for so many years. As collectors continue to put together player runs, many may find themselves searching for these combo (multiplayer) cards next. Whether the prices go up or down doesn't matter to most collectors. But, there are some really amazing cards that have tremendous appeal. In this episode we take a look at some of the very best multiplayer cards of all time. We go through your submissions to determine what some of the communities favorites are!!

Graig, your videos are such a labor of love! The multiplayer card from this video I would love to obtain is the 1941 Double Play Ted Williams and Joe Cronin! I think Mays' card values will increase the most in the next 5 years. Mays was in the Negro Leagues, so he has that history going for him, like Gibson. Sadly, Gibson's values will always be hurt, at least to some degree, by the fact that his baseball play and history are not chronicled to anywhere near the degree of Mantle and Mays! If Mantle and Mays were currently at the price same level, I might answer differently. Mays' values may never catch Mantle's values, but I think the gap between them will shrink over time. Also, as collectors decide to start player runs or Topps player runs, Mays has some expensive cards, but Mantle has the ultimate stopper from 1952 Topps! Finally, many consider Mays the best overall player of all-time. Take care, my collecting brother! 😊👊

Another great video Graig! I am glad the Power Plus got some love, its one of my favorites. I am surprised no one mentioned the 1959 Topps #543 Corsairs outfield trio. I really like the design of that one with the red circle and yellow background. Most of the 59 Topps multiple player are pretty cool. The pride of the NL is definitely one to add to the list. I was not aware of that one. I have been buying the middle cuts separated for the Hassan Set. I recently bought a Nap Lajoie center panel and have it in grading now. The problem is that CGC is the only ones I found that would grade, both SGC and PSA declined to grade them because they were not complete cards. For next week's question, I really want to answer Josh Gibson. I think supply and demand would increase the value, due to limited number of Gibson cards, but Mickey still the king and his demand will outpace Gibson's.

Hi Graig, Great idea for a video on the multiplayer cards. I have a binder dedicated to these cards. Thanks to your video I became aware of the Tris Speaker card but it might be a little out of my reach. In terms of which player's card will go up the most in value I think it will be Willie Mays. He is the oldest living Hall of Famer who will get a lot of attention when he does pass. BTW I'm glad you liked the card and I'm rooting for Matt.

Graig, I love the multiplayer cards, mainly because I love seeing All-Time greats on the same card. I guess my most valuable one is the Nolan Ryan/Koosman, and it's a beauty but I really love some of the pre-war multiplayer baseball cards and the dynamic duo cards like the Montana/Rice. BTW -- last week I purchased the 1970 Topps trio of All-Time Greats in a multiplayer basketball card - in an above average PSA grade -- Lew Alcindor, Jerry "the Logo" West RIP, and Hayes, and it didn't break the bank. These cards are quite reasonable compared to current players who are having phenom seasons :)

I personally love multiplayer cards. I commented to Theo once that I don’t understand why they’re less valuable. We collect cards of players because they’re great. Cards that were specifically produced because of their greatness I.e league leaders, World Series, etc speak to their greatness more than the base card. My Gibson, Brock, and Boyer PCs are dominated by the cards made for his exploits. Boyer’s multiplayer cards are the only reason why I have cards of Mays, Aaron, Clemente, Mantle, B. Robinson, Banks, Matthews, and that other 3B who is in the hall of fame while Boyer is not.

I just got back into collecting after 30 years and the first graded card I bought was a PSA 7 Pride of the N.L. w/ Mays and Musial. when I was a kid, it was hard for me to even dream of having a Willie Mays card. I read "Say Hey," his autobiography when I was a boy and he has always been my all-time fav even though his playing career was over by the time I was born. What a beautiful card that is! Relative to some others, it is priced incredibly low considering who is pictured on the card. The pitchers' equivalent to the batting leader card w/ Mays, Clemente, and Aaron has to be the 1966 N.L. Pitching Leaders card w/ Koufax, Marichal, Gibson, and Perry. 4 HOF'ers! Great card. and a shout out to the 1991 Fleer 'Chicago 100 Club' w/ 2 HOF'ers - Sandberg and Dawson. these multi-player cards didn't mean anything to me when I was pulling them from packs years ago, but now they tell a story about what I love about the game and why I love it in the first place. I was going through my boxes of commons and re-discovered this card and have had it on display in a Card Saver II long before I even decided to get back into the hobby. Great topic, Graig!

why o why o why???? It's because the card market is way down and the collectability of these cards have only been semi popular in recent years. While we consider them a "bargain", they have mostly been the red headed stepchild of the card collecting world. Not usually collected in a player run. Much like leader cards. It's who cares. I have a little more appreciation for them over the years and looked at these during the pandemic as cheap alternatives to the madness. All-Star cards also fit this same profile. Great subsets but after thoughts.

I only own one T202 and it is the Collins/Home Run Baker. Would love to get more but it’s tough when there’s so many other cards on my list. Not to mention, my list continues to grow at a faster rate than my ability to actually find and buy the cards on my list haha. As for your question this week, I think they will all continue to increase in price, but I think Gibson has the best chance to increase by the greatest amount. I know Gibson’s card prices have already just recently gone up due to him getting into the MLB record books, but there are just so few cards of his out there. I think rarity will play a big factor into his prices continuing to rise. Mantle and Mays certainly have some oddball issues and cards in high grades that many would consider rare, but most of their cards in lower grades are very easy to find. With Gibson now being in the official record books, I think the younger generation that is getting into vintage cards and the history of baseball will start to learn more about his life and career. That will only add to the demand for his cards that there are already so few of.

I just watched your video on Thursday June 20 and I know that Willie Mays just passed away. In the short term I think that his cards will increase with his passing, however, HOFs passing away usually doesn’t show a big increase in card values. Mays, like Hank Aaron before him, is such a huge part of the hobby and baseball lore that I think we will see a run-up in his cards' values. Had Mays not passed away, I would go with the Josh Gibson. His name has been thrown front and center into baseball fans and the hobby due to the Negro League stats now being recognized by MLB. Also the fact that Gibson has really only one card close to his playing days, the 1950-51 Toleteros card. That card’s scarcity will bring big dollars as collectors try to obtain it.

Great video. I was surprised on some level after seeing 70's multiplayer RC's mentioned, that nobody brought up the '63 Topps Rose or the '67 Seaver high number RC. I tend to think of these more as RC's than multiplayer specials too, so I get it. I own a lot of these cards...immediate goals would be upgrading my '63 Mays / Musial - I have that card, but it's lower grade and OC. The card I forgot about being great (and don't have) is the '81 Donruss Brett / Carew. I've never owned that. As for player who will takeoff the most in the next 5 years or so - I say Willie Mays. He's not likely to live much longer (just turned 93) and I think when Willie passes he will get a kind of long due boost as many indeed believe him to be the greatest position player of all time.

If I had to pick one though, it would be Babe Ruth. It took nearly 90 years for there to be a player (Ohtani) that has the talent to be great with both hitting, and pitching. I always found it interesting that 3 home run hitters were on the same card for batting leaders, as they all out hit singles hitters like Pete Rose. The prices for these cards are exactly where they should be. No more and no less, it is what the market says and has been saying for the last 30 years. This is the best thing about vintage cards, there are typically no hidden gems to invest in and make money. You get the card at a fair market value. The only type of cards potentially skyrocketing in price is truly rare pre-war vintage and also players that may make the HOF one day. Lots of HOF collectors that won't touch cards unless they make the HOF. All vintage Topps cards are readily available and don't expect anything to go up much. I expect most of my vintage Topps to actually decrease right now.

People have been hyping up the Topps league leader cards as great investment for many decades if not longer. I have a copy of Baseball Hobby News from January 1987 saying how great of an investment they are and how they are poised to skyrocket in value, and they ran similar articles at least once a year as did SCD. Problem is they were all massively overproduced low series cards. No scarcity whatsoever. Pretty sure it was just dealers trying to unload inventory and cater to collectors (read: kids) who couldn't afford actual HOF cards.

Never considered the Hassan T202 as multi player cards. My want list has gotten bigger because certainly the center shot is what I think of as a multi-player. The T202 Tinker, Evers Chance is on my National want list. Gibson will see the biggest increase. If the only known playing days postcard comes up for auction it will go nuts. The Propegandes Gibson has been skyrocketing for the last 5 years and is considered his best card by most - the rarity is going to keep this one going up. His cards with a piece of his bat are already pricey and I think as more people want something from him in their collection - this is where they may go driving them even higher.

I believe it’s really close between Mays and Gibson. In my opinion, Mantle is Mantle. I do not believe his prices will fluctuate too much in five years. I do believe with Gibson getting more attention, and the lack of many cards, the ones that are available see a major increase in value. I believe Mays will spike when he passes away (unfortunately), as is usually the case with players. But, that increase will most likely be short lived and return to normal. After all this, I give the edge to Gibson, based on supply and demand.

Hey Graig great investment question to explain thoroughly why #1 Josh Gibson goes up in value is by 2029 by the time the research comes trickling in about his official HR count could very well be beat Hank Aarons HR record *Bonds notwithstanding as there's still plenty of microfiche to pour over and old archival records his cards will go through the roof. Secondly the Say Hey Kid Mays is in his '90's now and the time on the clock is running out if Willie is still by 2029 that's fine by me but as we all know too well once a Hof'er dies there's a spike in value for his cards. I say lastly on the list the MM man card values go down as he's been the post war super star player to collect at remain at the top decades and it high time to pass the baton on to someone else.

Mantle vs Mays vs Gibson. I'm a set collector and still need 51B, 52T, 52B Mantle & Mays to complete those sets. I hope the prices go down over the next 5 years so I can finally complete those sets. I've thought Mantle was overpriced since the 80's but price just keeps going up. If they don't ever come down in value, I'll just have those holes in my sets. It's not worth it to me to spend more than a few thousand dollars on an old piece of cardboard. I'd rather spend that money on something else entirely. Mays will most likely pass away within next couple of years and will get a temporary bump. He also seems more popular than Mantle among younger collectors. Josh Gibson only has one playing days card (which there is only one copy of) so kind of a strange choice and hard to compare to Mantle/Mays whose cards are readily available.

I am assuming we are looking for the investment with the greatest percentage increase. While the Mantle card will probably have the greatest dollar increase, I think the Gibson will have the greatest percentage increase. First, the current price is fairly low. Second, the supply is low so a small increase in demand should result in an increase in price. Third, the inclusion of his records in the official MLB statistics should increase the awareness of him and his cards. Thanks, Graig!

With the recent addition of Negro player stats being added to the Hall of Fame totals and the sparse amount of Josh Gibson cards available should make them increase the most. The highlighting of Negro League statistics can only make Josh's focus increase.

I think that on a percentage basis, the Josh Gibson is going to gain the most over the next year. With all the talk of re-configuring the record books, and including the Negro league players it has a good possibility of becoming a quite expensive card. Also,Josh Gibson cards are pretty rare so there aren’t many around.😅

There are no Josh Gibson cards to my knowledge so how can I evaluate their value in 5 years. I would say Mantle over Mays with Aaron close by in terms of value. Of course Ruth is the card which is in a class by itself, as is Shoeless and Wagner. But don’t forget Jackie and Satchel!!!

Mantle is Mantle. He has his own fanbase, so I get it. Mays was arguably, the best all-around player though, I think his prices are pretty much baked in. Yes, there could be a slight bump when he sadly passes away, but not sure how much of an affect that will have over the long term. Kobe, passed away young. Willie Mays unfortunately... is expected. As for Josh Gibson, it's FOMO, IMO. But doesn't mean he wasn't a great player.

Willie Mays will see the greatest increase. When he dies, that is when the jump happens.

The jump happens for a month, then prices return to normal. Everyone gets FOMO and they don't realize how many autographs and cards are actually out there. A lot of people also buy not to collect, but to flip. They will often have to sell at a loss a few months after.

One name and 1 name only. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gd6WetOF1qqvhpc.htmlsi=Xb85s9H-A6rxjLcC&t=42 People won't run up a 1974 common it will crash soon. There are just not enough collectible gibson cards and he is still the same player he's always been albeit a great one. Jackie Robinson is more collectible. Willie never gets the respect he deserves as the best player in the History of the Game. His cards will continue to be collected, but the easy answer is the same one as Bob Shepard gave.... #7, Mickey Mantle, #7. He was Good.

I think there is only one reason that an all time great jumps ahead of his peers in card value. Media exposure. Unfortunately Willie Mays is the only one of the choices that is still alive, so unless something comes out about Gibson or Mantle, Mays will is most likely to increase the most. I also think Mays benefits from having cards in the 70’s that are fairly affordable. A small jump in price would have a fairly large increase percentage. I am not an investor, but for this scenario I’d load up on 70 - 73 Willie Mays cards. I’ve always thought 70’s super stars and HOF rookies have a lot of potential for increased value.
@cardboardandplastic9267

Media exposure is very short lived. When Willie Mays passes, there will be an immediate money grab of people buying/selling autos. After a few weeks, things will return to normal and back to today's pricing. 1970 to 1973 Willie Mays cards are very common and I doubt they will go up at all. If you look at the trends of the majority of Willie Mays cards right now, they are continuing to decrease in value like every other HOF player. Even the majority of Mantle cards are decreasing in value right now.

Of those 4 70s cards, the 71 Mays is the one in least supply, especially in high grade. It's also from the semi high # series in the set.

@@alltimesportscards The 1971 cards in high grades are in short supply period because of the black borders. Not only that, but so many of these cards were altered by adding color with black sharpies to the corners and edges. If you ever see a raw 1971 Mays with perfectly black edges and corners, buyer beware!
