It seems all the comments here were negative. This is exactly why Russell Moore left the church as he did. The majority wanted status quo and resented when he confronted racism. When it comes to issues of race, I believe the majority of white evangelicals will dig their hills in and hold on to their conservative values at all cost.

While I appreciate the effort, when I consider the substance of what was said, I am not sure what he was trying to say? Some people have improved and some haven’t and yet I am encouraged we have improved? Trying to say something but it lacked substance.

I think it may lack substance to you because you may be one of the people who thinks the problem with race improved over time with modernity. What he said is very clear to me.

Is it more important to have racial diversity in a church, or to serve the community that we’re in?

I would say it’s possible to serve the community we’re in by pursuing diversity… teaching majority culture multi-faceted hospitality is a form of discipleship!

I agree that diversity is a wonderful thing, as is hospitality, but some communities are homogeneous. I think churches should reflect the community around them. If you are in a diverse area but your church is not diverse, that’s a problem. Christ-likeness and hospitality are not only evidenced through racial diversity.

@@amyclutter7259 I don’t entirely disagree; however I think if the church is truly caring for the least of these, they ought to ideally have a greater proportion of those on the margins of their communities….but again depends on the community for how you do that and how feasible it is.

@@MikeHongMusic Exactly. The margins of society in rural Appalachia are not minorities. Focusing on race distorts the issue.

Who do you serve? If you're just serving each other or only people that look like you then I would say diversity should be a focus.
