Double child killer Colin Pitchfork’s latest parole bid to be freed from jail will take place in public in July.
The Parole Board granted an application for a public hearing in the case in the “interests of justice”, a decision published on Thursday said.
The reviews are typically conducted behind closed doors, but can now - in certain circumstances - take place in public if requested, after changes in the law in a bid to remove the secrecy behind the process.
Talk’s international editor Isabel Oakeshott joins Kevin O’Sullivan to discuss this further.

Pedophiles can NOT be rehabilitated, and that is a fact. So why are we even contemplating letting him out? The judiciary in this country are a pathetic joke.

Could the truth be that. Those in charge simply don't care about the safety of young girls.

Because these crimes don’t affect them. They’re in a different world. There is a word for these people but I can’t say it on here

It's not the prisoners the do gooders are concerned about. It's their own sanctimonious beliefs that with understanding and kind words they and only they can help the criminal to mend the error of their ways. Total bollox of course . They're just too full of themselves to admit it

I always thought that the fundamental principle of justice was to ensure an offender did not profit by his crimes. One who takes the life of another but is allowed to retain his own has not received justice, and remains in a position of advantage over his victim. Forget about the concepts of revenge, punishment, deterrence etc., these are secondary considerations and irrelevant to the first principle.

We abolished capitol punishment to ease our way in to the EEC, as it had been banned in EEC countries. Now we're out of what became the EU, the question of capitol punishment should be put to public referendum

He won't be released. It's a legal requirement that he get a parole hearing every two years should he choose to avail himself of that right. Virtually everyone of this type returned to prison for breach of licence is not granted parole. He will be denied freedom and in two years he will be denied parole again.
