Money, that's why. If you're in the 90's, it was open season with lauryn hill to blink 182, offspring to britney and backstreet boys to sheryl crow. But why go through 10 Korn type bands when one taylor swift or one doja cat will make more money?

Playing a "rock instrument" as you call it, is a lot different than playing rock music. The instruments are the same, but how the genres are promoted are different.

The answer is easy. They can "train" a rapper or hip-hopper much more cheaply than a musician, and recording sessions (one performer one take no complicated instrumental music) are FAR cheaper to record and promote.

The Warning’s 7 month negotiation with Lava Records highlights their dedication to maintaining artistic control over their music and image. This approach contrasts with a trend among some newer artists who prioritize fame and wealth, often compromising on their artistic integrity. By insisting on staying true to their vision, The Warning sets an example of how artists can navigate the music industry while preserving their authentic sound and style.

What The Warning have done is quite remarkable. They actually learned to play real instruments from early childhood, and kept practicing indefinitely. Dany and Pau have almost two decades of piano behind them. Dany started guitar at 8. Pau started drums at 6. Ale started bass at 7. So at 24, 22, and 19, they kick ass! I noticed a few comments asking why the music industry doesn’t back rock artists anymore. Here lies the most important question and I have my own theory based on observations. The music industry still controls what is popular simply by support or lack of it. I’ve observed many interesting trends in the rock world die abruptly because of 2 things: it didn’t generate enough money and/or the industry didn’t see much future in it. Take psychedelia of the late 60’s; it was wild, it was powerful, and it opened your mind to how experimental music could be. However it was not super popular because only those who experimented with drugs (and they were a minority) were really into it. So in 1970 it abruptly disappeared in America. Then we got the golden age of Prog, ushered in by Yes, Genesis, and King Crimson. Again popular but with many songs stretching into the 8 minutes or more range, it did not have mass appeal. So by the mid 70’s the industry was promoting arena rock bands and singer/songwriters. By the 80’s prog and the rock bands were replaced with fruit for the masses: Commercial Pop. Pretty much every act out there was encouraged to crank out the pop hits or they might get dumped by the record label. You see how that worked out as the 80’s was one giant hit parade (but sadly with a lack of substance). Then the 90’s brought us Grunge which to me was bands bucking the trend of mindless pop and again producing well-written, powerful music that had meaning. The industry promoted this while the big money was flowing in but then around the early 2000’s, left what was remaining of the Grungers and Stoners and began promoting Pop and Rap. I remember when the industry celebrated “The Death of Rock.” That brings us to where we are today.

I think it's because rock simply has been played out, there's nowhere else it can really go. What was once a genre largely based on youth, angst, passion, and rebellion is now primarily the sound of baby boomer and Gen X parents and grandparents, annoying hipsters and music snobs, and middle-aged and elderly has-beens living on their fans' nostalgia. Similar things happened to jazz, which is why jazz is no longer popular. And while hip-hop is king for now, it's been slowly declining in popularity since the late 2010s. It's probably just something that happens to all genres sooner or later, except maybe for country music.
@RevStickleback

Rock is a fragmented genre. You have metal fans, you have hard rock fans, you have punk fans etc, and while they don't necessarily stick exclusively to those sub-genres, it does limit the potential for mass appeal. Individual stars that record labels can shape, give an image to, write music for, etc, are what the labels want now. Mass appeal is what radio and tv wants now too. The bands that do get played tend to be mild and inoffensive bands whose 'nice' music won't have a section of the adudience changing channels.

Rock Music was popular in the late 20th century. A lot of older heads, 50 to 70 and above gravitate to it. They thought it (hard rock) was dead. They gravitate to this vibrant trio. It revaltalizes. Now if the radio stations can show youths making a living off it ( yeah, there are parasites out there ready to capitalise and cannibalise). Unfortunately, many have to be given the encourage from the older generation that shows appreciation

In regards to radio stations, a lot are owned by a few conglomerates so one person or a small group of people are choosing what songs are heard across the country. I asked my son, if these festivals existed today, who would headline! His answer? Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish. And he’s right! This is where things are now. Will rock be in the forefront again? Probably not. And isn’t it interesting, when you watch any Warning live video, what age group is commenting? Men in their 60s and above. The Warning is playing the music from their day! @@TheRobsam I don't have a bad taste, just another taste. But saying that they are a joke is having no respect. Just say that you don't like them. Just show some respect to each other.

Why are you here if you don’t respect the band? But yes those musicians in Japan are all about their technique and it’s good stuff… but there is no need to hate because TW are still great tight musicians for a 3 piece band of 11 years… we have seen the do technical stuff outside of their own music… plus they’re still really young and still learning, it’s also great for bringing rock back to the mainstream… btw they love Japanese rock
