I shifted from Science stream to Arts because that's what I liked, I don't care who says what, I'll attract people with my skill if I have to. I'll just keep improving until I'm there.

Bitter truth is One of the main reasons of Unemployment in India is "Preparing for Govt jobs" It actually makes students unskilled

India simply don't have enough jobs, we may blame BA, bsc, btech students for not being "good" enough but I have personally seen so many academically gifted students struggling and applying for 3 LPA jobs

I have done my BA in Economics with a GPA of 9.48, I have done quite a few internships and am currently pursuing my masters. There is constant judgement coming from people whenever we tell them about our degree which takes a toll on our mental health. Comments from relatives such as "Ladkiya BA toh timepass k liye karti hai, bas makeup laga k college jao aur ash karo, esse acha hai ki roti banana seekh lo" are quite common.

I have been a bright student throughout and opted for humanities. After graduation, I interned in NGOs, worked part time as a tele-marketter. Then I got a social work degree from TISS and got placement immediately. The issue is in BA you must only go to the best colleges. As to internships, please stop saying a history graduate should do internship in sales. That's a problem of the economy. What is really needed is to create avenues for internship for history graduates to assist historians, museologists, archaeologists, curators, writers; political science students to assist local political parties, campaign agencies etc; geography students to assist geographers, geologists, anthropologists; psychology students to assist psychologist. The problem is that of the economy, not just that of the students.

It's not all about college,it's our responsibility to figure out what skills can provide us freedom to maintain the survival and basic lifestyle. This must be the minor goal. Not only the getting in contact with friends and just having timepass😒

The problem is that a lot of BA students aren't even aware that internships are a thing. There is no talk about it in college or among peers. The college needs to make the students aware of when and how can they get internships.

I did score 80% on 10th and 91% on 12th from Science stream. And now I'm persuing my bachelor degree in English (shifted to arts after 12th) . I faces lots of criticism even my parents didn't supported me back then. Yes I didn't achieved anything great to mention, but all I can say is I'm HAPPY, and I'm sure I'll achieve something

I am a BA Asst. Proffessor in a UG college. I encourage any BA students watching this video to pursue higher studies (MA/P.hD) and hone their skills in research methodology. For those afraid of maths, you should start focusing on statistics as it is pivotal for research work. Dont fear if you got poor marks in maths in class X, i barely passed with 38% in CBSE class X maths myself. All you need is conceptual knowledge and the rest is done by statistical softwares like SPSS (trust me on this). There is lots of scope if you are patient enough to devote a few more years beyond graduation. If anyone has any question, reply to me in the comments.

BA is a completely academic course, it is not for jobs or professional work. Problem is, people are nlt maachines. There are people who are amazing in subjects of arts like sociology, political science. You become researchers not job workers. For that, one should have financial backbone.

We need to move away from “Sikhaya nahi jata college mein” to “Maine kya sikha college mein beyond my college curriculum which will help me grow in my career.” Not sure if the education system in India is ever gonna change for good. We have to learn things on our own to shape our career.

Market is manipulating the students as per their requirements. As I was a Science student in 12th after 12th I have taken the addmission in BSc in Pune's top college which is Fergusson. But while studying in college I get to know that the subject which I was studying was of no use for my life. I have dropped my self. Now I am pursuing my graduation in BA spiritual psychology. Now I am able to understand my self properly after studying this subjects. This course has opened my mind and help me to understand myself ❤.

I did my BA in Japanese, and fortunately enough I was very blessed that my family, especially my father, was very supportive, even my extended family and other people were very fascinated. Funnily enough, people my age always used to ridicule me lol. Completed my BA, went to Japan, got a scholarship and now I am pursuing my masters in Germany on East asian studies, got a scholarship in Germany as well :O. The possibilities are endless on what you can do, ranging from diplomacy, economics, cultural education, law. I won't say its the same for everyone but, Arts and Social Sciences are probably one of the best subjects you can take if you want to make a career in human-related institutions, research, international relations, and so much more. They have been exceptionally fulfilling for me

Fear of Maths is the main reason behind taking BA degree and nobody is Mentioning that😂

Well, I got a job while I was in college, i was doing BCA and i had 7 backlogs, I didn't use to go to college much. I got my first job on the basis of my 12th graduation (which wasn't great either i scored like 57% commerce without maths). My first job paid me 15K and later it increased to 25K within 6 months. 10 months after my first job I got a job paying me 40K base, and including incentives and such , on average I'd take home 70- 80K to sometimes 1L. I moved to Canada 8 months ago, I have 2 cars (a new RAV4 Hybrid & a used ford escape) I work only 20 hrs a week, I'm an international student. Yet I'm saving more than what I was earning back home with my highest paying job. I guess you just have to keep hustling and eventually you'll make it. I haven't made it yet but I'm sure much closer than I was in India.

Atleast Those BA students are Interested in what they do. I'm currently doing a CS degree, I joined CS cause i loved Coding since my highschool. I've noticed most of my peers aren't even interested in CS rather they are interested in those quirky high paying corporate jobs. Most of them even enrolled thinking that CS will make them rich overnight. Whereas my friends who do BA are creative fellows who actually has a talent and isn't just interested in Money or placements. This goes a long way, doesn't matter if they make it or not.

I'm from Pakistan and have done BS in Political Science from one of the most renowned universities here. But trust me, I felt like I was watching a video on Pakistan than India, this is how similar the problems are for our social sciences students

Fun fact - I was in law and applied for 1000s of internship form 3rd year onwards and I got my first internship in 2nd semester of 4th year and I had seen people suffering from low attendance because college use to pull the leg first. But they never taught us drafting for real case scenario like I gave an interview where the guy literally said "5 saal college main jhaak maari kya?"

Sorry to inform you….. Being as a DU student of NEP -2020; I can confirm you that there is no any compulsion to do internship……. Even it is mentioned in rules…..but no one talks about it in our colleges. (It is just like formality to mention in the curriculum)

I think the main reason for unemployment is the lack of curiosity, like I was curious about game development from my 10 th I am a bsc graduate and because of my curiosity of game development I taught my self many programming languages, how to use game engine how to do all that stuff needed for game development no one said me to do so and because of my curiosity I am a successful game developer now so I think curiosity is main

I think we should make all the degree programs to 4yrs (including 6 months mandatory internship). This will enable everyone to learn new skills and gain hands-on experience in working place. Colleges which don't have technical staff could pool students from various colleges and conduct classes or provide online classes.

In case you do not get placed in campus recruitment, your first job will always be through reference. Your parents and relatives have to be well connected to get you a job. After that you need to build your own references and connections to climb up the ladder.

I completed my BA degree from Lucknow University in 2022. My last exams were in September 2022. 3 years of a degree and I knew I wouldn't find a job. While doing BA, I also gave CAT 2021 and got admission in one of the top tier 2 B-school. Now in October 2023, I got a package equal to the average package of a Baby IIM. From BA in September 2022 to MBA in October 2023, I really got a big jump.

Having completed my BA in History in 2017, I accumulated diverse experience in various companies from 2017 to 2022 without facing any job-related challenges. In 2022, I successfully cleared both the railway and state police exams, currently serving as a State Police SI. I take pride in the significant role my history degree played in this accomplishment. It not only helped me secure a better package than what a private company offered - to match that income, I would have needed to invest more than ₹11,000 in my full three-year graduation 😢.also, I've observed some of my friends who invested heavily in their graduation and ended up with lower salaries from a Constable😂😂😂😂. I took ba this year and if you ask me why I choosed ba so i didn't want to do ba i want to study Bsc cs in Gorakhpur DDU but my father said that I don't have money to spend on you and also he didn't let me go there so I took some money from my mom and take addmission in BA My dad didn't give me auy money for study after 12 so i think this is also a huge reason that make girls to choose ba.

Luckily 14yrs back I did not face these kind of problems. We had great professors. Our professors (University College, Mangalore) went beyond the syllabus to train us. Yes, some of the students were pursuing BA just for the purpose of piece of degree, not to gain knowledge. Yes they are facing problems even till now.

I graduated with BA in 2013. My earlier goal was to get into either Law or Civil Services (I come from a family of Lawyers). Speaking of what I did accomplished, I cleared the Prelims twice but due to different reasons couldn’t cleared the mains both the times. Also, cleared IBPS once but lost interest and didn’t wanted to become a Lawyer since everyone in my family is already one and even they wanted me to be something other than an Advocate even if it’s closer to that. So I did my MBA from Amity University from the money I saved working for 2 years and currently, I am working as Team Lead - HR with one of the largest Real Estate brands in Dubai on a salary I never expected I could make. Having a BA is one of the best decisions I ever took since it made me stronger in multiple disciplines instead of limiting me to just one specialisation.

But I am happy with what i have taken and i will work so hard in my field and will achieve something big for sure.

Why people choose BA : 1. Poverty : especially in villages after school students do labour and other works to earn and support family. 2. Fear of maths and physics ( fear of failure and hard work ) 3. BA is easy and requires less college and class attendance. 4. Provides proper time and environment to prepare for government eaxm. 5. I agree with the point of cost, we are paying about 1.3 lakhs evey year for my engineering course. I have taken an ed. loan because of it. I have supportive parents, but I cannot think of everyone being able to do the same.

BA is not the most popular course but the most majboori wala course, like engineering aspirants when not get selected and have no money for private colleges go for bsc in that very same way many students who after intermediate wants to further their studies but do not know what to do usually go for BA.

Some may be aware or might not in BA course the competition is higher interms of jobs offer than the Bsc job offering after graduation.that make it tougher in seeking govt jobs or state jobs.

My biggest learning in the job market as a BA English honours, MA English graduate - diversify your skill set. I started as an editor in the publishing industry, worked in a startup where I not only edited books, I learned how to typeset them, give ideas for book cover designs, book titles, generate leads, manage client communications, marketing, etc. In a short span, I became invaluable for my company and eligible for jobs in multiple roles. Then in my next job in the study abroad industry, I not only did well in catering to A grade students, but equally excelled in handling low grade students and helping them gain best admits. What kept me going apart from my capabilities as an editor was my academic background. Humanities provide you critical thinking abilities to survive in jobs that demand creativity. It provides you the ability to ask right questions and influence people with you informed and unique insights. Majorly my students are engineers who have the technical skills to transform the world but lack critical thinking to bring about such changes that can have a profound impact in the world.

I think a major factor is fuss created by people about Science.The environment created by prejudices is really harmful one and discouraging. Please remember there is a difference between advise and warning, fear and interest, need and want. We all have to fight our own battles, be respectful and if possible- helpful. My dad was just a matric pass dude who was doing ITI course, he got a decent job with 10k a month and jumped few companies till he settled into honda for 1lakh a month which he's still earning. i envy him a lot,,,

This is very good video, I face the same as a commerce student, I am in 11th and had scored 97% in CBSE board exam in 10th, I took commerce as engineering/medical as over saturated fields, we are being taught in archaic methods without any calculators and 95% of class is made up of children of rich businessman with no interest in studies, I faced anxiety when I took commerce as I thought I made a wrong decision in life. I took commerce in class 12 and did an 8 month certification in Canada, I got a job within 15 days, 45k cad which covered almost everything i studied in 11 and 12 and main focus was on teaching software and soft skill and i worked in a call center while studying (also helped) during the interview they asked me to explain cricket to them, no one asked me what my score was, they just called my manager on my previous job for reference.

Mohak, a great video again. But, your testimonials are very limited to students of a few popular universities. One of the reasons for the high proportion of BA students is that they are the nearest 'go to government colleges' located around any rural area of India. I have worked in rural areas for a decade- the most common courses are BA + B.Ed. It's not just the enthusiasm for government job, it's more about the combination of available options- BA being a default course for many, awareness being limited to your district colleges, and students from poor families having limited means to access professional courses. A deep-dive in the spatial mapping of BA colleges vis-a-vis colleges offering technical/professional (NOT Vocational) courses could provide you a reason for this.

I scored 94.2 percent in my board exams and then opted for Humanities. I was earlier forced to go to Aakash because like every middle-class Indian parent, mine also wanted to me opt for PCM. But you know, the thing is, this stream is not EASIER as it might seem to others. It's highly comprehensive and bulky plus I have economics and maths to provide a kind of OPTION B SCOPE. Few teachers were like wtf. Plus, CIVIL SERVANTS are supposed to know about our society and history and beliefs not how an engine works. much of the UPSC paper is based on humanities subjects. In fact, humanitarian subjects opposed excessive control of religion over ideas and due to this the scientists were able to circulate their ideas. Humanities wale buddies, you guys can rock. I am a BA pass out and I am an employee! I would suggest all the fellow BA students to focus on communication English/French, be open to think how you can implement your learnings in the market and try to learn as many computer oriented skills as you can! Students in the field of Economics should focus more on entrepreneurship and computer oriented skills, try to find a problem, then make a solution to that problem and you can capitalise it. The best part about BA is you get so much of spare time to get more skills and hands-on experiences. BA is a sleeping giant.

I'm from Mumbai . Here in college there was 240 seats for B.A but the college gave admission to 370 students. And the reason was - it's B.A it doesn't matter.

This points to another hidden problem in India, lack of awareness and research about job prospects from a degree. We are so frantic about the immediate next step: board exam marks, then entrance exam prep, college admission etc that we don’t think a step beyond. I am certain that if all the BA students in India had gotten good career counselling many would have planned their futures differently. We need to promote future based thinking in India. Right now we grind our students under pressure so much that they don’t have the bandwidth for it

I get nothing short of a panic attack when i think about my future. Sometimes i feel i was too clueless regarding what to take for my degree but my parents were supportive when they said you should take political science as my graduation subject from Delhi University. Later on i realised it's not a subject which i resonated with and now I'm clueless. I don't wanna pursue masters in a subject which I don't like but my parents are forcing me to do it. Since i am an arts student even if my general awareness is good i have to put in a tremendous amount of effort to make my reasoning and numericals right for government exams. It's nerve wracking at the same time i feel i won't reach anywhere if it continues like this😢😢

I 32 right now and decided not to marry. I earn, cook, clean my house, take care of my parents and everything in my own hand don’t feel I need to get marriage ever. No need to spend 5-10 lakhs in wedding which may have no return. Divorce rate is rising, women file fake rape/domestic violence cases against men/husband. Individuality is important. Regarding kids, India is overpopulated; cost of education, property, and healthcare is rising alarmingly. Don’t want to bring a child in a country which have corrupted govt. poor infrastructure, lack of resources to lead a average life. Better travel, invest money in FD, MF, stocks and create wealth and adopt kids.

I didn't know any such thing as an internship during my college days. I only came to know about it once my cousin went to study in a private college in Kolkata but by that time I was already done with college and had started preparing for govt. Job exams. There was no discussions about such a thing as skill development or internships and every one( I suppose) was having the perception that placements are only for engineering students. Every one was studying to just get the degree after which they would start applying for govt. Jobs. I suppose not only the colleges but also the schools had to take up the responsibility to counsel students about various career opportunities.

I am a bio student of class 12th .I got 93 percent in class 10th so everyone was expecting me to choose science stream but I had interest in literature. But I think more than interest what matters for me is to opt the subjects which can give me job . Even now everyone ask me why I didn't take maths .All I want is to get a gov job in my field.Since I am from Jharkhand having a gov job is similar to to see god in real life

When I was a student, and this is my honest findings. I could find nobody who was willing to go arts field and specifically, those who took arts took it out of lack of options. (Commerce was the same but at least I could find many many more people who scored pretty good and wanted to opt for commerce. This wasn't the case with arts. None at all. I think Arts and Humanities subjects would thrive after we have built the national to near developed stage. Till then, India (youth of India) will need to take India forward by means of Technology and Science.

To become a doctor lawyer or any other big shot progression becomes harder Becoz of the financial expenditure especially for children who come from a poor background.

Actually problem is that we don't have solid art industry here. 1. Visual Design industry: Just look around the banners once you go out for a while, either they are clichéd or they look so cheap and wrong. Same thing in packaging and digital advertising. Things are so bad that if you really see a good ad, then you know it's directed by Tanmay Bhatt. 2. Exterior and interior: We have lost our glory. And somehow we are trying to copy the west and ending up nowhere. Just look at the Indian cricket stadiums and the colors we choose. Things are truly wrong. You can’t get away such things without the help of expert designers. 3. Art and entertainment: We do have massive art and entertainment industry, but I doubt B.A. courses teach those stuff. There are some courses but not really popular. 4. Animation: Lol. We all know what kind of Animation industry we have here. And in the name of Animation teaching, Arena, MAAC are scamming millions of people. 5. UX: Here companies hire ui and graphic designers for ux stuff. 🙃 Probably only NIFS and some few are good institutions. Otherwise you gotta depend on internet materials, which is even better.

I left/dropped out from Gov engg in 3rd yr (CS Branch- 7cgpa) & went for BA Honours instead, the discipline of BA which engross me completely, the stream in which I get completely immerse & mesmerise about while studying about it! 19:00 Agree! Just like how people are thinking about Entrepreneurship, many people also have degree in 1 field but moving to completely different field, slowly many people are thinking & doing things which they like about or have some passion about! I went for BA Honours Geography🌏 which I'm fascinated about! (Geology to be precise, in which i'll do masters & might do PhD). In just 1yr everything became normal (except couple of times with neighbours) & I'm happy about my decision & seeing me happy parents are happy! :-See, I might had good career, future & good life in tier 1 with all modern amenities if i had continued my engg. (Yes I liked CS engg, but after Geo🌏😉) but at the end of the day, it's all about satisfaction of work for me! If the field I'm working in fascinate me, even after daily hectic work, if I'm loving my job profile & gives peace of mind at the end of day & excites me for going to work on next day, then I'm happy to work in that field even with _Less Pay_ (Geo is that field for me than CS!) Sounds little filmy, but it's truth for me! 😅 Edit:- And yes now I have clear goal in front of me, what i'm doing right now, what I want to do after that, In which field I want to specialize in, which company or country I want to work in, I have my career path planned & ready to execute! I know, things might not go as planned, but atleast I have my own unpaved road in front of me which I might not had if i had stayed in previous field!

Sometimes, it's not like we don't want to do internships but our colleagues do not provide any kind of internships and career counseling. I'm from Gujarat bhavanagar I studied BA Psychology in Gujarati language my education gap ba to ma 3 years because of the same factors. We don't get any proper guidelines and after wasted 3 years of my life now I'm studying MA psychology in English language Jaipur just because they are providing internships. I think they are so many mini factors that force us (youth ) to go others countries and make our living there just because here a person just can't grow enough to just make a living.. Your video is so inspiring for gathering more knowledge like this you should be a history teacher or something because I like the way you share your knowledge it's so easy to understand. I learned so much from your video even though some subject of your video I don't like I still watch it because you make it sound less boring and make it understandable to knowledgeable. Thank you for pointing out the problems that no one else has.

After doing BA now I have taken admission in a central university through entrance for masters in psychology, under NEP and UGC guidelines there is no restriction for any stream student over choosing MSc in post graduation. Still this university is not allowing us to go for MSc and forcing all non science students to take up MA. Moreover authorities were threatening to cancel out admission and degree when we raised this issue. Coming through entrance we have already proven our worth in exam, still they are making fuss about it.

Hey mohak , great work🙌🙌 Do make a video on law colleges and legal sector of our country. Govt. Schools like NLUs are taking tons of fees and private colleges fees is on sky high. Students are forced to get a job because of hefty loan. They are not able to get into Litigation unless they are from a rich background. Thnx

A big problem is also that students are largely clueless on what they can pursue, we know just handful of job positions and handful of degrees. Random conversations with some people makes us feel that there's so much to do apart from regular BA/Btech. Firstly we lack the education to take education... And the system and society is in shambles already.
