I’m guessing you don’t want to wear cleated shoes when climbing the tree given the fact you don’t wear shoes because part of the answer is they can damage the trees.

A lot of the trees where I live have rough bark, so I like to wear these funky toe shoes for my climbing. They give most of the benefits that barefoot climbing offers and also provide an adequate amount of protection to your feet.

How many fingers do you have to hold yourself with? 20! I realized that sometime as a child, even when I was too shy (or afraid of injuries and whatever) to walk barefoot in the street, tree climbing was one of the things I did barefoot (besides playing in the sandbox and frolicking in the swimming pool). I still love to climb trees barefoot, though I'm certainly not particularly good at it. I admire people like you who seem to do it so easily.
@kirklanyoshinaga89532 жыл бұрын
There is a shoe out there that does, in theory at least, allow you to climb up a tree easily but it’s extremely damaging to the tree. It’s main use is for power workers who have to scale telephone poles in order to perform maintenance and/ or repair on the power lines. My dad used to have a pair. They had huge spikes on the bottom and toe edge of the shoe. Just thought I’d share that little tid bit.

I imagine it’s also that bare feet have more control and would be less prone to slipping with being able to articulate all part of the foot

Im an arborist and using boots will not damage the tree. Thats utter rubbish the cambium layer is a few millimetres under the bark, depending on species. We must use steel tow boots, i don't struggle with grip unless its wet or covered in growth like ivy or lichen. But to be fair our climbing technique is very different.
