I made this video because there is nothing like it I can find on KZfaq and I've had people ask or say "why is bass important in metal", "why is bass so quiet" or "what is the point of the bass, you can't hear it anyway" and even "Bass isn't meant to be heard..." and I'm sick of it. And this manly comes from guitarists...who don't even write or record songs.
I'm in no way trying to say that the bass is the most important instrument. But it is an instrument that should be in metal and shouldn't be so quiet in the mix. If someone can't hear the bass I would say "get better headphones" or "listen to iron maiden" any good band you can clearly hear the bass. In this video there are a few examples of this.
The songs in this video are:
Peace sells-Megadeth
The trooper-Iron maiden
Sweet leaf-black Sabbath
For whom the bell tolls-Metallica
The intro and outro to this video is Orion-Metallica (bass track)
The music in this video belongs to the musicians above who made it.

It's easier to start playing bass than guitar but you have to work hard to get good at either. I think bassists get shit because of bands like Motley Crue where the bassist just doesn't give a shit

@@calebbean1384 not that the bassist doesn't give a shit so much as he sucks. It's been proven that other bass players did the recordings on their albums and Nikki Sixx blatantly has been caught in concert using pre-recorded tracks. Makes you really appreciate Steve Harris.

Worth mentioning, there are mixes floating around on youtube that put Jason's bass back in, and that album sounds way better. Would have been a modern classic if they hadn't shot themselves in the foot like that.

@@calebbean1384 the reason why bass is seen as easier than guitar is not because bass itself is easier than guitar, but the things that bassists play do often end up being easier than the things guitarists play. in fact most of the things guitarists play are far harder on bass, including but not limited to: lead playing, because of a much larger space between both strings and frets and bends and double stops are completely insane; chords, because barre is really difficult with thick strings, switching chords is already hard enough on guitar and larger space between both strings and frets does not help being basically unable to make use of open strings, fewer strings and being obligated to play high up; and if you are playing with your fingers there is a speed limit that cannot be crossed making tremolo and non-legato scale runs impossible unless you got robert trujillo fingers making legato your only option and making most guitar solos nearly impossible to replicate on bass. also you have to build up way stronger fingers because thick strings. the only techniques that are easier on bass are: tapping (because of more space between strings), slapping (no shit), muting (and only if you are playing with your fingers). techniques like sweep pickings are absolutely insane in bass, and the fingered equivalent (which includes thumb raking) is so insane its easier to do sweep fingering with tapping than without it. and bassists get shit on.

I've been fortunate enough to rarely ever misvalue my friends, and when doing so, not so dramatically. Even so, you can value a friend greatly, even more than they value you (but not because they don't care, just because you care so much), and yet still be taken aback by what it feels like to no longer have them in your life. Uninteresting very long story time vent for those bored: Recently I lost three friends in a very short period of time, having already been the kind of person to never have more than a handful of friends at any one time to begin with. We all met at an IT contract job and got close and would talk on Discord every day, or close to it in the "later" days (2.5 years after becoming friends). Two of them were a bit flaky, but for largely good reason. They were fathers and had a lot going on with their significant others too, and one was kinda just like that anyway lol. The third was the one I became closest with and we talked daily and played games regularly. Late last year me and the close third friend lost contact with the first two entirely. I tried to recontact them as recently as the first couple months of the year again, even through text which was rare for us. Usually that was sort of the direct hotline to someone if you wanted to talk to them about something important or quickly. Nothing. Things got weird with the third friend and he just kinda went quiet on me. I let things lie for a while because I had already often been the backbone of our little group so I was like "okay maybe I just need to step back a bit, people have shit going on or whatever, it's cool." And yet it never recovered. I briefly got back with third friend again online and he said things were just busy with work and stuff, but I think it was just a cover based on prior understanding of each other. Talked/played once or twice after that and then gone again. I got upset and let it stay dead for a couple months and said something with a "so is this really how it's gonna be?" type message, and yup, that's how it's gonna be. Nothing. Just like that, I lost about half my friends in ~6 months. Some days it's not as noticeable, as I'm known for being something of a hermit and keeping to myself/gf as super tight core, sometimes my best friend, so when days go by where I'm mostly keeping myself occupied, I'm okay. But when I want to talk to someone, when I get that "surprised I haven't hear from ____ yet to---oh right..." it hurts. It's just tragic to me because I don't see any reason why it should have happened. It didn't have to be this way. You don't have to talk to someone all the time to be friends with them. If we had to move to a twice monthly thing from daily or something, that'd obviously suit me just fine because it's about friendship not frequency. Guess it was all or nothing. I see the third guy playing games somewhat often since we didn't unfriend each other and it irritates and depresses me. Gf saw from his mom's FB he got hit by a car recently, not badly. Thought about reaching out, but saw he was playing the next night so I let it go. Fuck, man.

I always played bass in rock band but I didn't actually realize that there is a difference between the base and the guitar. I just thought it was another guitar, like how rhythm and lead are two different types of guitar but still just guitar. I heard this and realized I was hearing something completely different than the guitar and was so confused I started doing research into what the base actually was and after finding videos of people playing it and actually hearing it by itself I immediately wanted to learn it, been playing bass for years now

I would say bass has the role of Harmony and rhythm. Thing is,it doesn't really give soul, depth, yes, but I see it more as the brain in some sort,it being deeply connected with the skeleton,so the spine which enables us to move.
