Join us in our engaging video on bearings, a fundamental element in engineering! Dive into the diverse world of bearings, where we explore their evolution, types, and critical roles in modern machinery.
We begin with a look at the history of bearings, highlighting the transition from basic journal bearings to advanced rolling bearings. Discover how this evolution revolutionized machinery, reducing friction and increasing load capacity.
Our journey includes an in-depth analysis of several bearing types:
Deep Groove Ball Bearings: Ideal for moderate radial and axial loads, commonly used in electric motors and appliances.
Cylindrical Bearings: Known for handling high radial loads, suitable for heavy-duty applications.
Tapered Roller Bearings: Versatile in supporting radial and axial loads, essential in automotive hubs and gearboxes.
Spherical Roller Bearings: Unique in accommodating misalignments, perfect for heavy-duty and shock-prone environments.
Needle Roller Bearings: Compact design for high radial loads in space-restricted applications like engines and robotics.
Angular Contact Bearings: Efficient in handling both radial and axial loads, ideal for precision machinery.
Self-Aligning Bearings: Designed to correct shaft misalignments, used in systems with alignment challenges.
Thrust Bearings: Specialized for axial loads, crucial in high axial load scenarios like turbochargers and aircraft engines.
Stay tuned for our next video, featuring real-world examples and an in-depth discussion on load distribution across these bearings.
If you're intrigued by the role of bearings in engineering and technology, give us a thumbs up, subscribe for more content, and join us in this journey of discovery. Keep learning and stay curious!

On the load type performances charts you are mixing/swapping axial with radial. In axial force, the force is colinear with the axis shaft, in radial, the force is colinear with the radius of the circle.

I think there's an error at 4:00, you switched the diagram of axial load with radial load. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

There's an error made in the part about spherical bearings: they are completely incapable of withstanding moment loads, since they are able to swivel freely in their outer ring. If you want high moment load capabilities there are also four point bearings, ball bearings with modified grooves so that each ball is in contact in four points instead of just two.

Thanks for your comment! Actually, The capability to accommodate misalignment comes from the spherical inner and outer rings, which can tilt within the bearing housing. The moment load refers to a force that causes rotation about an axis. Spherical bearings can accommodate a certain degree of moment load because their design allows for angular movement, which can absorb and compensate for misalignment and shaft deflection. However, the capacity to support moment loads is limited and varies depending on the specific design and size of the bearing, as well as the material properties. I appreciate your suggestion about four-point contact ball bearings as a more suitable option for applications requiring high moment load capabilities. These bearings, with their unique design allowing each ball to contact the raceway at four points, offer a better solution for handling combined loads, including significant moment loads. We might cover this type of bearing in our next video. Again, thanks for taking the time to watch our video.

@@CAEPlus in my understanding a bearing has moment load capability if it's able to resist moments. A spherical bearing is made to not resist moments, so it can align itself with the axis. To be able to take moment loads with bearings that have no moment loading abilities themselves you always have them to be paired up somehow.
