This is a bit of a rant. Basically it is my thoughts on some of the design flaws of these rifles. If you are a hunter or competitive shooter do not buy one. I also show you how to take it apart and put it back together again as far as can be done.

Hey, you are droping all the Bergaras in the same bag!! You are talking about the bolt of the Bergara B14 line, period! Bergara also have the Premier line, that has a completly different bolt. They have already changed the shrouds and the firing pins of the B14´s since 2018/6. Maybe you are outdated, I don´t know! The Bergaras are very good rifles for the price overall... And they´ve recognized that inicial problem...And they´ve fixed it.

This is a bit of a logical fallacy. Let's say for motors make 20 million sedans. They after making them realize that the transmission in them breaks down after only a 1000miles of driving. If ford then came out with a special addition that cost 2x as much and produces very limited quantities but also keep the defective ones in production and still produces another 20 million of them, did they fix the problem? The B14 is the only version of this rifle that I have ever even seen for sale let along had come into the shop for work. The premier line is an odd duck and very hard to come by.

@@dannyboy4805 Yeah my friend has one, constant light primer strikes. What’s funny is that Bergara uploaded a video like 3 months ago showing users how to install a new *(heavier)* firing pin spring without ever giving a reason for why they’re putting out the video. Anyway the idea was you call and they send you the spring and that’s it, he called and even offered to pay shipping but they said “Oh, send in the bolt we will replace it” mind you they didn’t ask for the rifle so how they’re going to give him a properly headspaced bolt is beyond me. They also mentioned something about having a bad batch of bolts from Stiller, kind of strange they didn’t announce a recall though for the safety of their customers and only say anything when someone mentions issues. Also the finish on the “Pro” models is junk, it’s like a $4 can of Walmart spray paint. Bergara is a junk factory run by scammers.

Thanks for sharing an honest assessment and putting information out there for people to discover. I just purchased a Bergara HMR Wilderness in 6.5 PRC, so guess I’ll see how it goes. Never heard of this before. Most of us do tons of research before we make $1000 plunges, but you can’t find all the info sometimes. For my first precision rifle, I chose a Howa KRG Bravo in 6.5 CM over the Bergara B-14 HMR. The Howa has been great for my first rifle. Perfect? Hardly. But it’s provided a great introduction into an addictive hobby. I will say, for someone that doesn’t shoot competitively, and is newer to the precision game, the Bergara seems like a great option for those of us who don’t have $3,000-$5000 to drop on a custom piece. Say what you want about the bolt...when someone can take a $1K firearm and shoot it out to a mile, I’m definitely gonna consider that rifle. There are probably many others rifles that will do this, but when you’re a newbie, research usually reveals these positives during internet searches. With a solid chassis and certified barrels, the Bergara boasts a few things that entry level shooters are looking for. I don’t think I’ll be eclipsing the capabilities of my new rifle anytime soon. And when I do, I’ll look at the Bergara Ridgeback with a better action and Grayboe stock for a bit more money. Nonetheless, an average Joe like myself can’t justify the cost of a custom rifle for the amount of shooting I do. Tikka seemed like a great rifle and was one that I considered. However, IMO they have far less to offer. The caliber options seems 2-3 years behind and the rifles stocks are just plain boring. If Tikka would’ve had the caliber I was looking for, I might have over looked the played out black stock and stainless steel barrel they have on every rifle they make. When I spend a grand, I want to like/love what I’m spending hard earned money on. Tikka just doesn’t get my juices flowing. Anyway, thanks for the information and taking the time to make this video.

Now you know why the K98 had the hole in the back half of the stock! The Bargara bolt shroud are is a lot like the old Mauser design. I have the HMR 14 myself and the things you pointed out are correct, they need to tighten up! But saying that, at least they did put a good stock on there, have threaded barrel and bolt handle and a side bolt release and a good trigger, those are things Remington could take a look at. I own and have built many Savages also, I like them and the Accu-Trigger was a great leap forward its still a hum-ho trigger. Like your vids by the way.

Every rifle manufacturer has its share of problems. A fire arm is a precision engineered machine, and as a manufacturer, you try to put the best ones in the market...they all want to be the "HIGH END" or the "NEXT REMINGTON" but it's tough market to sell these days (just ask Savage, Ruger, and Howa). Having said that, about 90% of guns that they sell are pretty much good quality in my opinion, which is about the industry average. Bergara's quality is about at the level of Savage (which I think is very very good) and Ruger.

@GrimstodDesh
@GrimstodDesh 3 жыл бұрын
@@jasongerbrandt5344 Modern cartridges run at 62000 psi plus. With a firing pin hole as large as is on the Bergara you will not be able to run at that PSI. If you are not having trouble with your factory ammo it is because they are probably running it at much lower PSI ratings which means you are missing out on potential performance. So this rifle bolt is not suited for modern cartridges.

@@jasongerbrandt5344 also at 2:26 I was talking about using it as a range fun gun only and that it was the only thing I would trust it for. Not as a hunting gun were reliability in extreme conditions are necessary. I would not use it as a competitive gun either because of the reliability issues. Just for shooting for fun. Most defiantly not as a combat weapon as there are way to many things to go wrong.

It’s not a popular opinion because SO many hoped on their ban wagon. I was one of them initially. I wanted to love my HMR. I did something stupid and feel In love with the rifle before I fired a shot. I admit I was a sucker for the stock. It sucked me in. I got to shooting it and it didn’t perform as well as any of my other bolt guns in the same “class”. At first I wasn’t worried because it took my Tikka Tac A1 several rounds to tighten up. Anyways I put it through load development and it still wasn’t shooting as good as my Tikka Tac A1, RPR, Howa HCR, Savage 12 LPR, Savage 10, savage 12 fv even. I even took a TC compass, and a Weatherby vanguard in on trade and both shot better more often then not. Not by much but still better and more consistent. It was at that point, when a bone stock out of the box Savage 12 FV, was shooting better that I decided I would buy another Bergara HMR and keep shooting both and working on loads and keep the most accurate rifle and sell the other. At This point I thought the first one was just a bad one. Keep in mind I wanted to love this rifle so much at this point I owned 2 now. They would shoot a good group followed by other crappy groups. That was my issue with them was the inconsistency constantly. Long story short I ended up selling both because both shot the exact same. And have not had the heart or the desire to go down that road again. To be fair they did what they claimed to do which is to be on average an MOA ish rifle. It was an MOA rifle but to me that was not good enough when all my other rifles were Shooting significantly better after load development. Others have reported great luck with them and I wish that I had been one of them. A friend had a HMR pro that he was quite happy with. A lot of people have gave me crap and called me a liar for saying that I have more than a few Savages shoot better than the HMRs. But it’s 100 % true. I honestly can’t say anything bad about a single savage I have owned as far as accuracy goes. Only issue with a couple of them has been weak ejection. If you are after fancy features then a Savage may not be for that person. But if you are after out of the box accuracy that rivals custom rifles then you can’t beat a Savage. I have never sold a Savage because it did not shoot to my expectations. I did the Bergaras. I have been really happy with my Tikka and RPR too. I did sell my HMR but it’s only because I had too many chassis rifles. It was a super consistent shooter though. And of course I still have several Savages too.

@s d yes I know. I wanted to be so happy with mine. That’s why I bought a second one. I thought no way lightning strikes twice. 😢 keep in mind they have put a heavier barrel on the ones now. That could have helped. Both Mine was the first barrel profile. I am on the Bergara Facebook group and lots of people loves theirs. With that said I seen more than a few of people that were let down. Don’t get me wrong it was a super nice rifle and shot well. I just had several rifles that shot better and that’s why I moved on. The stock and features is really nice. I was just looking for better accuracy than it provided (compared to my other rifles). I’m gonna say that 90% of people would have been thrilled with the features it had and it shooting MOA ish. Also keep in mind this was just my experience. For every bad experience with a Bergara their is 10 good ones. That pretty much goes for every brand on the market in that price range.

I wonder....could a person not just buy a replacement bolt from midway, brownells? 700 pattern right...may or may not be head spaced. I have been wondering this b/c I like the action itself, side bolt release is nice. Point is "and yes I know of all the custom action makers out there....I shoot too" would this be much different then a trued up Remy? Say I was to buy a replacement bolt, have the action worked over, new barrel like the remage sytle with the lock nut. My hmr is a coyote rifle....i"m not winning or ever shooting NRL/PRS.....if I get a remage barrel for it I'm probably stepping down to 6 creed or most likely 22-250....it is what it is. I know it has problems but the actual action could be saved with a new bolt assembly, and a remage barrel. The rifle as is like my 130 eldm loads and has had no problems.
