This is just like one of those videos our teachers used to put on in middle school or high school and no one minded some nice visual videos with narrating. Really cool!!!

I especially get that because I am a retired high school English teacher. (Except when I showed my students movies, I wasn’t narrating them myself.) Thanks for the praise and for taking time to comment.

Hi Jo: I chance upon your video (The Spider) while randomly scrolling some Facebook postings. Then I linked over to your other videos about birds, etc. Your presentation is most charming and the footages are beautiful and lively. It brings nature to our heart and soul. It is a good dose of tonic for us poor ‘urban-zoo’ inhabitants. Thank you for your wonderful work.

Birds love water because THAT'S their home! "And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven." Genesis 1:20! 💓

Very cute. I would theorize that considering they don't actually wash their entire bodies (slow motion highlights this, that they primarily only wash their undersides and their head), I would guess they wash away excess oil, which due to gravity, would accumulate on their undersides and on their head during preening.

Sounds like you've watched plenty of birds bathing, and you've enjoyed it enough to give thought to why and how they do it. Your theory might well be true. I wish we could ask the birds.

WONDERFUL VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chrissy and I love learning more about the birds this way, thanks to you. We were just wondering about birds and bathing and water today as we've been inundated with rain. I wondered if they could ever get TOO wet. I mean, after they bath, they dry off as quickly and as vigorously as they bathe. Therefore, I wondered if all this rain was having adverse affects on the birds. What do you think, Jo?
@JoAlwoodBIRDSANDTHENSOME
@JoAlwoodBIRDSANDTHENSOME 8 жыл бұрын
+Andrew Reago I think I'd like to know the answer, Andy, because I was wondering the same thing as I went to bed last night and thought about where the birds might be huddling for a night's sleep in this weather. In researching the subject of bathing, I didn't run across any info about this question. I guess it depends on the species. Connie pointed out that Cormorants, who don't have much oil, MUST dry off but ducks never need to. Anyway, thanks for praising the film, and I appreciate the question even though I can't answer it.
