Can't get enough of these birds. I have feeders around the backyard. I can sit back and watch them for hours.

No wonder you can watch them for hours, Travi. They're constant drama if you have enough feeders and enough hummers crowding around them. I'll be doing two more of these hummingbird compilations sometime in the next year. Keep an eye peeled.

Making it was my pleasure, Gary. In fact, I'll eventually do two more of these compilations about hummingbirds. They fascinate me too. And oh, we're going to Tucson in November, and I'll film some exotic hummers there.

I will say, Jimmi, that this hobby has turned into an obsession. That's a good thing, I guess--keeps me away from shopping malls. 😏

Glad you enjoyed it, Pamela. The flowers for the exotic species were all verbena, but the footage shot at our house showed a lot of Wendy's Wish Salvia and Jewel Weed. The hummers adore both species.

One of my Verbena's has grown into a large Humming Bird docking station and on more than one occasion, I have captured them with my phone cam. The design alone of this magnificent creature builds my faith in our great Creator God!

Those hummingbirds love Verbena all right. I've filmed several different species all over it in Costa Rica and Trinidad. (For example, the Ruby-topaz: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gs-TY8x61d6bZqs.html) Yes, their design is unique and uniquely beautiful, Elbert.

Hello. I love watching your videos. They are very educational. I love learning. I previously had experiences with hummingbirds. They are said to be very high vibrational animals. We are known to attract animals that are within our vibration and frequency. I attract many different animals. Most of the animals that I attract are my spiritual totems, too. One time, after my mom passed, I was just sitting on my porch and a hummingbird flew right up to my face and stared right at me. I don't believe in coincidences. The one day I happened to go outside after the event, it found me sitting on my porch. It caught me by surprise because this was my first close encounter. Then a few moments after that, it flew away. (Prior to that, I just witnessed them hanging around the house or yard.) I am highly spiritual and made the association that the hummingbird visited me due to my mother. It was a very exciting experience and I knew that my mom would always be with me and she has been. Anyways, thanks for the video.

I was interested in how you reacted to the hummingbird, staring you in the face. Unlike you, I don’t have many spiritual bones in my body, so I can’t say how I would have reacted. But I know this much: like you, I’d have been mesmerized. And by the way, thank you for telling me how much you enjoy my videos. My next one up will be about dragonflies on July 26.

Thanks for this compilation Jo! These beautiful and fascinating hummingbirds inspired your usual biting wit and poetic prose in this fascinating educational film and what a better way to spend time after a busy day enjoying the fruit of your hard work! We have the Ruby-throated here now and they're not as colorful as you mention but their behavior is. Warm regards, Cathy

Thank you, Cathy, for writing some poetic prose yourself in praise of the movie. I like how you put it--that the Ruby-throat behavior is more colorful than its plumage.

Thanks for taking a look, Jim, and for commenting. As for the Arizona footage, it'll be more than a month probably before I post any of it, but I'm excited about all the beautiful birds and what interesting movies they'll make.

I'm sure I'd enjoy the birds you have in the Czech Republic, Jaarmila, but I admit to feeling sorry for you because hummingbirds are so unlike any other type of bird and you don't have the fun of watching them. Maybe it's you who should visit the United States.

Jo do you think maybe the thick feathers help keep them cooler, sort of like a layer of insulation to help keep the sun off them?
@JoAlwoodBIRDSANDTHENSOME
@JoAlwoodBIRDSANDTHENSOME 4 жыл бұрын
Maybe so, Chuck, maybe so. After all, with a heart rate of 1200 beats a minute, they might need more cooling down than most birds.
