The second longest scripted video on the channel! Oh boi! This one was a doozy but with the release of he new Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes I thought what better time to talk about one of my favorite movie characters ever Caesar. I hope you enjoy the video as I discuss why he's such a great character.

This video took a lot of work to make with it almost being tied for the longest scripted video on the channel so if you did enjoy it spanking whatever buttons you feel like would greatly be appreciated! I hope you have a GREAT day and what's your favorite aspect of the Planet of the Apes Trilogy?

Yeah, I agreed with you up until the very end You talking badly about the Oscar's and talking about how Andy wasn't nominated for playing Ceasars makes zero sense.... Why don't animated characters get nominated for Oscar's in that case ? You're really undermining the work VFX artist do to bring this world to life

In rise, Caesar becomes the political leader of the apes. Just like how Muhammad became the political leader of the Arabs. In dawn, Caesar is betrayed by a member of his inner circle, is presumed dead, and then returns again. Like Jesus did. In war, Caesar freed the apes from slavery, led the apes to a new promised land, but died just as the apes entered into that promised land. Just like Moses. Is it any wonder that Caesar became a religious figure to the apes when he literally checked all the boxes for all three of the main Abrahamic religions?

I love when heros fall from what they once standed for and War of the Planet of the Apes gives me exactly what I wanted, the whole movie challenges Caesars beliefs after sparing lives took away half of his family's lives. Caesar going though a realistic downward spiral like Coba did until he sees the consequences of his blind revenge quest. Even after freeing the Apes, Caesar doesn't live long in the promised land and after everything he went through he is willing to let go and pass on without seeing how the Apes will thrive because he knows they will be okay. Apes are Stong together after all

What's also great about Caesar is that his Hero's Fall is that not only does it happen, but he ends up not going all the way like Koba does and (like all the best Hero's Journey stories), he picks himself back up and his philosophy (as well as his character development) becomes stronger. His time at the ape prison camp had him regret his actions with leaving his people unprotected because he was too obsessed with revenge, and full of anger/hurt, which gave him the incentive to not go all the way killing a human out of that anger/hate, like Koba would have. In the end, the General (traumatized by the Simian Flu and the loved ones/friends/peers he's lost to it) goes out by his own hand - just as the rest of humanity does to themselves. Koba shows that apes have inherited some of humanity's worst traits (hateful, vengeful, warmongering, etc) - but Caesar shows apes have also inherited the same potential of humanity's ability to rise above those traits.

Caesar's life & character journey is modeled on that of Moses, from being adopted by the "rulers" to dying within sight of the Promised Land because he broke one of the Ten Commandments by killing a man in anger.

Its weird the thing was said to be cause Moses accidentally spoke of himself to have power akin to god and thats why he couldnt set foot in the promised land. This alternatibe felt kind of cruel cause I assume this to be when he was still in egypt and killed the guard who was whipping a slave.

Both the lines "take your stinking paw of me you damn dirty ape" and the follow up line "NO" are from different planet of the apes movies. Obviously the first being from the original and the other is from conquest, except its an inversion because its what the humans keep telling to apes when they start to rebel, repeating the word "no" over and over on loud speakers. Such an awesome way to make a double call back that carries a new sort of dramatic weight and meaning in the story. The screen writers for this trilogy should be teaching classes on how to do a reboot.

Honestly, what I like about the ending of the third movie, is that Caesar doesn’t really even learn any lessons, he still wants revenge, and he still wants to kill the colonel. It showed when push comes to shove, who is Caesar really deep down; being that his empathy and compassion outweighed his hatred for a human, and that being the difference between him and Koba. Which I feel like is more compelling and realistic, than Caesar’s reason to not kill logically going, “Koba would kill this human, so I won’t”.

I think what i really find interesting about the modern trilogy is how much it borrowed from the original Conquest of the planet of the apes and succeeded where other movie reboots failed. Instead of remaking the first movie (which already failed terribly with the 2001 version) and making it just a nostalgia cashgrab, they heavily borrowed plot points from one of the least popular original films and turned it into an amazing trilogy

I ain’t gonna lie bro, a cried like a little b1atch watching *Rise* Idk what it is, it’s like some reverse of the uncanny valley? Just seeing a being that isn’t quite human, but looks close enough and has all the same consciousness and emotions as one, experiencing trials and tribulations that most humans can relate to in some way. It just really tugs at my emotions. Every man is someone’s son, and might even become someone’s father, so seeing him separated from his father and making the hard decision to follow his own path? Just destroys me..

Honestly the Colonel and Koba are two of my favorite antagonists in fiction, especially Koba, because while I was watching war, I thought back to Koba's actions in Dawn, and wondered if he had similar thoughts to Caesar, since at least before his first fight with Caesar, he truly was dedicated to the apes and saw Caesar as a great friend. Koba wasn't a bad ape, he definitely cared about his people before the humans appeared. But he just couldn't see past his own rage, something he probably would never learn to let go of since he was basically raised on hate and the torture of being a lab chimpanzee.

@Scarshadow666

Imo, Ceasar is the best representation of a Gigachad in it's pure form - and not just as another random Internet buzzword to toss around, I mean as in a male character that has some of the best written character development and fits the definition. Ceasar's overarching goal is to protect and care for his fellow apes he leads and his family, and though he's not infallible, he still grows from his experiences and makes decisions where his intentions are to the welfare of his fellow apes and family. He, like many people have had to go through and many similar well-written characters has in Hero's Journey storytelling, he has a momentary fall from grace and ends up rising above it by the end of his life. Ceasar may be a chimpanzee that's been GMO'd and hyper-intelligent, but he's also a well-crafted male lead for a story and it shows little surprise why the apes would go on to aspire to be like him (and we see in Kingdom how some aspirations can be twisted around to become nefarious).

No way man it isn't like that at all. Caesar is more justified to kill Koba because he was being an active menace to the apes like 10 seconds ago shooting and killing some of them, and he didn't show any regret or asked for mercy which shows that he will always be bad for all apes. In the case of Transformers Optimus brutally kills Megatron which one minute ago helped him defeat Sentinel and saved his life and was even offering to end the war between Autobots and Decepticons right there. After killing him he finds Sentinel, which is broken and defeated on the ground and begging for mercy. He then proceeds to shoot him twice in the head while Sentinel screams for him to please have mercy. These two are similar moments but I at least have very different feelings watching each of them, I have not seen anyone complaining about Caesar killing Koba but lots of Transformers fans consider that movie ending to be one of the worst Optimus moments of all time (also in the original script it was Megatron who killed Sentinel and Optimus accepted Megatron's offer, it was later changed because the script got leaked but it shows that the people who made the movie agree that it should not have happened like that). One more thing is that Caesar is supposed to be a more morally grey character as shown in the third movie but Optimus Prime should be a beacon of hope and justice who inspires everyone to do the right thing, and him in the movies just isn't like that at all. Characters like him or Captain America for example are not supposed to go around executing enemies.

8:00 I feel like it’s also important to mention that as a character developing, he learns just because you have something that seems great, it doesn’t mean you are well off. It is shown when he first arrives, he seeks to think the apes should be thankful for the tree they have but comes to realize there are so many more trees to climb in the redwoods, it also comes when he brushes off Kobas frustration with the humans. He doesn’t understand that just because Koba has it good now, doesn’t mean he hasn’t gotten over the trauma, that is likely horrifically intensified by his intellect.

I, too, always use all of their names when talking about the ape characters in this franchise; and nobody ever knows who I'm talking about. Rocket is the main reason for this, probably. His constant presence and consistent bro energy is awesome enough to legitimize side characters and their faint web of relationships in general for me. He totally could have just faded away after being deposed, but instead sticks around like a valiant knight who is definitely not a 'main character.' And then there's Buck and Luca who are emotion fodder. Winter had the best character rep of any gorilla and that's a little sad. Wait nvm. Red actually had even better characterization than Winter. I forgot he was a gorilla for a moment. But this just makes me feel even weirder. Why are gorillas in this franchise at their best as characters when they are the worst they can be, and *why do they all need to just die?*

Agree 1000% on EVERYTHING...........except 1 VERY STUPID and UNNECESSARY comparison you as many you tubers have to make controversy just for no reason, yes ANDY SERKIS effing deserve the Oscar, yes he is 10 times better than many actors, no disagree...how ever.....that doesn't mean any of those actors is not DESERVING of winning and getting recognition for the hard work they also have to make.....and when you choose to say LEONARDO DICAPRIO is a overrated undeserving of his win a man who also struggle to get that effing recognition, dude you just made the same bias BS crap the people at the oscars do, like seriously OVERRATED LEO DICAPRIO.....for that alone, who again you could have make this entire video and would not change a bit, we all agree Ceasar is such a fantastic character, without tossing mud to another person career, that stupidity I never like of people here in you tube always sneak a dumb unnecessary jab in a masterful video of an already underrated character, just for that you loss a like, and a share and a subscribe, not be this childish man, excellent video,, seriously I was enjoy it until that stupid part, you could say the same without ever put any name, just say Andy deserve his Oscar win and nomination, same reaction same goal, not like he need that to get the validation same with LEO....that was just dumb be better man.

I don't like Caesar that much and I think a lot of people fundamentally misunderstand his character. Freeing the apes in Rise was cool, but the fact that he preaches nonviolence while humans have no problem at all with killing apes is nonsense. If the Simian Flu didn't wipe out 90% of the human race, then Caesar and his group would never have survived.

That’s the point. They would rather fight than live in servitude. The idea of being free was not that they would be always be safe, but at least they would have the freedom to fight for it. To die free is better than to live under servitude. He doesn’t preach nonviolence, he preaches communication over blind violence. Apes will not kill apes, but apes will always try to take the high ground rather than needlessly kill. Caesar does not want to be like humans, he wants to be better, kinder, but the world keeps testing him and forcing him to match their violence.

@@sullivandmitry1416 This is the fundamental misunderstanding that I'm talking about. Caesar doesn't fight, he runs. In Rise, Caesar freed the apes by running into the forest. In Dawn, Caesar refuses to fight when one of his tribesmen is shot, and when humans blatantly disregard his rules. In War, Caesar fights against the first wave of soldiers, then runs for the rest of the movie. "Ape will not kill ape" is hypocrisy because Caesar kills 2 apes. Most of Caesar's problems are resolved via deus ex machina and defaulting to the high ground when you are at war doesn't make you better than humans, it makes you a doormat. If Caesar were George Washington during the American Revolution, he would have told Americans to run to Mexico.

@@Aldridge517 First off, the idea that he’s a coward because he runs in Rise makes no sense because he was facing the entirety of humanity at their peak. Going to the woods was the only option for safety. In Dawn, the movie blatantly spells it out for you that Caesar is willing to fight, but Ash getting shot in an accidental meeting is not worth going to war with a superior enemy. In fact, Caesar would have secured peace had Koba not screwed it all up. He makes it clear war is the last option because he knows that the humans, albeit weaker than before, are stronger and have more firepower and will kill all of the apes if they do not strive for peace. Thirdly, he fights the colonel for 2 years before they decide to leave. They tried as much as they could, against a superior enemy with superior firepower, and would have lost in the long run. Caesar being smart and doing what was best was not him being weak, because fighting losing battles over pride is not how leaders do anything. The United States make several attempts at peace before war broke out, and the continental congress was very hesitant to declare independence because so many of the colonies citizens were not thrilled about war or breaking away from Britain. Fighting for no reason doesn’t make him weak.

1. Humans are great apes. 2. CGI is not impressive. 3. Throw these movies in the same bin as the fast and furious franchise.
